The Befrfendlngnelephone Beffiendln8 Senrfce Is part
of our 'Local Community Support Programme,. which
continues to be a vitsl contribution to reducing
loneliness and isolatlon, one of our key aims. This is a
8rowing problem among the older population in Mole
Valley and has been identified as such, by Mole Valley
District Countil and A8e UK nationally. Thls service is all
about reducing loneliness and isolation, increasing
communlty cohesion wlth local communities coming
together, plus Improvin8 the health and wellbeing of
the older person and in some cases the volunteer. The
alm Is to enable, the older person to regain social and
interpersonal skills which may have become less due to
the loss of a loved one. friends, or a close relatlve
movin8 Out of the area.
In mld-march 2020, wlth the onset of the Coronavirus
we started to develop our faC￿t0-faCe Befrlendin8
Serrflce to that of a Telephone Befriending Service. Initially we called over 60 clients to explain
the development of our servlce and how many of our facfrto-face volunteer befrienders V￿uld
become telephone befrlenders to help our cllents throu8h these unprecedented tlmes. We
would not have been able to asslst our cllents wlthout our dedlcated staff and volunteers.
These telephone ca115 were a lifellne for many of our cllents.
The dlfferente we continue to make Is one of reducin8 soclal Isolatlon and lonellness. The older
people we support were self-Isolatln8 In their home and unfortunately fa¢e-tO-face vlslts were
not an option for most of the year. Therefore. a regular telephone chat from their telephone
befrlender dld help reduce that Isolation. The volunteer also 5ignp05ted back to Age Concern
Mole Valley• If there were other needs and requirements that may not be noticed by any other
members of the communlty at thls tlme of Isolatlon. We supported 'ne￿ older people to the
