TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT CHARITY NUMBER 1111160

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Incorporation

The Racehorse Rehoming Centre received charitable status on 3[rd] September 2005 (registered charity number 1111160).

Constitution

Constitution adopted on the 27[th] may 2005 as amended 14[th] august 2005.

Trustees

The Trustees as listed on page 1

The charity is governed by a board of Trustees, the majority of whom are non-executive and are responsible for creating and monitoring key policies and strategy.

Objectives and activities

Charity Objectives are:-

AIMS

The aim of the charity is to offer former ex-racehorses a safe and secure environment whether for reasons of injury or neglect, either from the general public, other recognized welfare organisations or the racing industry.

When the horse has successfully completed the rehabilitation process the charity looks to find permanent loan homes for those horses deemed suitable to cope with an alternative career.

Future homes are inspected and require references from professional bodies within the equine industry. Horses remain the property of the charity and are never sold.

For those horses not deemed suitable for another career either for reasons of old age or injury, then the charity reserves the right to offer permanent residency to such horses.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

The Centre has made vast improvements in the last few years to the property, with the completion of the second stage barn extension in March 2016 giving a better environment for horses and volunteers.

These completions lead to the connection of electricity to the barn and the fitting of 24 hour CCTV cameras and monitoring alarms.

Works have been carried out on the parking area which offer better access for larger vehicles and more parking spaces for visiting schools/organisations and visitors.

The new building now houses 11 boxes, wash room, tack room, feed preparation area and visitor’s room with kitchen facilities.

Rehoming of suitable equines is proving harder year on year, the equine welfare crisis is hitting the charity with less people willing to take on horses that have past injuries.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

The charity benefited from a legacy in 2022 which enabled the charity to purchase a much needed tractor to maintain the valuable grazing to a high standard.

We continue to rent the land from CG Westlake for the peppercorn rent of £1 per year and are pleased that this arrangement on license will continue for the foreseeable future.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

The charity has a number of equines in their care that are unsuitable for the rehoming plan. To this end they will be permanent residents within the charity sanctuary until the end of their days. The charity will continue to work with other equine welfare organizations and give priority to urgent welfare cases from these authorities.

The charity also offers help and a data base of horses looking for rehoming and persons looking for a particular companion.

TRUSTEES RESPONSIBILITIES.
