We also continued our commitment to fund the Beads of Courage scheme on the children’s cancer ward at Southampton General Hospital. We were pleased to fund a further final wish holiday through our partner Beyond the Moon to enable a terminally ill child escape to Disneyland Paris with their family. These holidays enable families to make memories to last a lifetime and not only help the poorly child but also their family as a whole. We were sad to say goodbye to our secretary who has moved on to pastures new. Her role is being filled by another trustee without detriment to the quorum. We are actively recruiting for a replacement. ## Financial Review This was our second full year following the Covid restrictions and followed a similar pattern to last year. Our turnover decreased by over £3000 this year which was caused primarily by the cancellation of our Annual Summer Ball due to lack of ticket sales. We received a number of In Memoriam donations and have again been generously supported by donations from the local community throughout the year. Financial Statement For the Year Ended 31 August 2024 The Sophie Barringer Trust – Registered Charity No 1111154 The Retreat has provided many breaks for poorly children again this year and the facilities are well received and praised by those who have used them. We continue to face increased maintenance costs but again these are dealt with without needing to use reserve funds. As agreed, we have made the following donations this year: Beads of Courage – £5,000 Beyond the Moon – £5,000 We did not have enough balance in the general funds to make a donation to research this year and this will be carried over to next year for further consideration ## Principal Funding Sources The main fundraising activities carried out by Sophie’s Appeal are: - Charity Raffles - Quiz Nights - Event Stalls - Collection Days We are very grateful for the support we receive from the local community and other sources of income are: - Corporate Donations - Collection Boxes in the community - Donations from Events organised by our supporters - Sponsorship donations from supporters fundraising activities. ## Reserves Policy The Trustees have reviewed the policy and have agreed that the minimum reserve will be retained, where possible, to cover the costs of running the Retreat for two years and those of our aims: - Running and maintenance of the Respite Retreat – estimated at £30,000 per annum; - The Beads of Courage programme on Paim Brown Children’s Cancer Ward at Southampton General Hospital – currently £5,000 per annum Approved by the Trustees and signed on their behalf Chairperson – Mrs Julie Hewlett Signed ………………………………………………………….
