## Trustees Report
## Constitution
The Sophie Barringer Trust (Sophie’s Appeal) is constituted by a Declaration of Trust dated 19 April 2005 as amended on 03 January 2008.
## Objects of the Charity
To assist in the treatment and care of persons suffering from Wilms Disease and other children’s diseases and to support parents/guardians and siblings of patients suffering as a result of such illness through the provision of financial assistance, education and practical advice and through the provision of equipment, facilities and services not normally provided by the statutory authorities;
To provide funds for research into Wilms Disease and other rare children’s cancers.
## Trustees and Recruitment
Positions of Trustees are appointed as and when required at either the quarterly Trustee meetings or at an Extraordinary Meeting called for such purposes.
## Achievements and Performance
We were able to re-open Sophie's Rainbow Retreat early 2022 after Covid restrictions were removed. Although there were various restrictions put in place by Rockley Park (Haven) we received numerous positive comments in our guest book and on social media. We regard this as a testament to the high standards provided to our guests and the invaluable need for quality respite breaks for poorly children and their families.
We are continuing to fundraise to support the Beads of Courage and hope to resume funding the scheme in the forthcoming year following the resumption of our fundraising activi
## Financial Review
Following the cessation of Covid restrictions in early 2022, we were able to resume our fundraising activities and noticed our collection box and JustGiving donations start to return to pre-pandemic levels. Our turnover increased by c.£10,000 on the previous year and we managed to reach our targets.
Whilst the Retreat was closed for almost half the year, we still had the fixed costs and received some support from Haven, the site owners, in reduction in ground rent for a couple of months which helped in the recovery phase. This meant that we did not need to transfer funds from the reserve account to maintain a reasonable working balance and achieve our aims
It was agreed that we would refrain from supporting the Beads of Courage programme for a further year and we would make increased donations in the coming years.

The main fundraising activities carried out by Sophie’s Appeal are:

- Event Stalls
- Collection Days
We are very grateful for the support we receive from the local community and other sources of income are:
- Corporate Donations
- Collection Boxes in the community
- Donations from Events organised by our supporters
- Sponsorship donations from supporters fundraising activities.
## Reserves Policy
The Trustees have reviewed the policy and have agreed that the minimum reserve will be retained, where possible, to cover the costs of our aims:
- Running and maintenance of the Respite Retreat – estimated at £30,000 per annum;
- The Beads of Courage programme on Paim Brown Children’s Cancer Ward at Southampton General Hospital – currently £5,000 per annum
