## **Trustees**

The names of the trustees who have served up to 30 June 2024 are as follows: D Scollard-Kerr (from 1 July 2021)

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

The charity is governed by a trust deed dated 5 June 2005 and is administered by the Rotary Club of Wellington (Shropshire) (‘the Club’). The trustees are the officers of the Club who meet with the Club Council on a monthly basis. Proposals for fundraising and donations are discussed with the Council and are laid before the members of the Club at its business meetings.

## **Objectives and Activities**

The objects of the charity are ‘the relief of the poor and needy or such other charitable purposes as the Club shall in duly constituted meetings from time to time direct’. The charity’s focus is to raise funds through donations from club members and fund-raising events, and to donate these funds to worthy causes. Regular fundraising activities have included a charity film evening, a charity concert and various appeals.

The club also administers a fund (‘Fairbourne’) arising from the sale of a bungalow, previously used by the charity to provide holiday accommodation for those who might not otherwise benefit from a holiday. The income from this fund is used to provide similar benefits.

## **Achievements**

Charitable donations for the year totalled £31659 (2023-£39015). A summary of these donations is contained in the accounts.

## **Reserves**

The policy of the charity is that expenditure in the year should be approximately equal to funds raised in the year and that, except for ‘Fairbourne’ – see above – and some occasional specific projects, there is no necessity to hold reserves. There are no ongoing obligations of the charity.

## **Independent Examiner’s report on the Accounts for the year ended 30 June 2024 set out on pages 4 to 6.**

## **Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner**

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The trustees consider that an audit is not necessary for the year, under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to examine the accounts (under section 145 of the Act), to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Act) and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s statement**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all of the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view, and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent Examiner’s statement**

During my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

- (a) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements to keep accounting records in accordance with section130 of the Act, and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Act, have not been met; or

- (b) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **4. Telford Tree of Light**

As part of the club’s annual fundraising, it joins forces with the three other Rotary clubs in the Telford area (the Rotary Clubs of Ironbridge, The Wrekin and Telford Centre) to organise a Tree of Light in the Telford Centre. This is done through The Rotary Clubs of Telford and District Trust Fund, a separate registered charity (no. 1109036). During the year ended 30 June 2024 charitable donations of £40,000 were made by this charity – this amount is not included in these accounts.
