Report of the trustees

for the period 6 April 2021 to 5 April 2022

The Trustees present their report along with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 5 April 2021. The Trustees have adopted the provision of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) ‘Accounting and Reporting by Charities’ issued in March 2005.

Structure, governance and management

Constitution

The Anson Charitable Trust is constituted under a trust deed dated 12 May 2005 and is a registered charity. The charity number is 01111010.

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees

The Trustees who have served during the period and since the period end are set out on page 1. Trustees are appointed by a resolution of a meeting of the Trustees. New Trustees may be appointed at any time but at no time should the number of Trustees exceed six. The Trustees meet at least twice in each calendar year.

Induction and training of new trustees

The Chair of the Trustees is responsible for the induction of any new Trustee, which involves awareness of a Trustee’s responsibilities, administrative procedures, the history and philosophical approach of the charity. New Trustees would also be encouraged to review leaflets and publications by the Charity Commission.

Risk management

The Trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.

Objective and activities

Objective and aims

The objects of the charity are to hold the capital and income of the Trust Fund and to make charitable donations to whoever they think fit.

Significant activities

The Anson Charitable Trust makes donations to other charitable and voluntary organisations which the Trustees think fit or from whom a request for financial support has been made.

Financial review

Reserves policy

The reserves policy is reviewed annually. The Trustees maintain assets for unseen events and use the assets to fund their charitable aims.

Financial review and investment policy

The charity received two large donations during the period from Mr George Anson. These were unrestricted donations and have been used during the year to fund various donations.

Trustees responsibilities in relation to the financial statements

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Report of the Trustees and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).

The law applicable to charities in England and Wales, the Charities Act 2011, Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed, requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charity for that period.. In preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to:

The Trustees are responsible for keeping accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Independent examiners report to the trustees of The Anson Charitable Trust

For the period 6 April 2021 to 5 April 2022

I report to the trustees on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 5 April 2022 which are set out on pages 5 to 15.

Respective responsibilities of the trustees and the independent examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under Section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is required. The charity’s gross income exceeded £250,000 and I am qualified to undertake the examination by being a qualified member of ACCA.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charities Commission. An examination includes the review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures within the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a “true and fair view” and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
