Section D                      Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

Post covid, fundraising for Fleecehaven during 2023 has begun to increase slightly. Events has once again be running, however the footfall remains significantly below pre-covid levels. This is partly due to people still being a little reluctant to attend large events but, more importantly, represents the fact that veganism is becoming more mainstream and the desire to attend specific events has fallen as vegan products, etc, are more readily available within shops. Fortunately, the Fleecehaven Fundraising group continues to be successful and has gone someway towards making up for the shortfall. Adopt-a-sheep has continued to be popular with many ‘adopters’ renewing their adoptions, some for the 15th year. The number of adoptions has remained stable with approximately 130 adopters. The introduction of ‘add on items’ when purchasing an adoption has been particularly successful and increased the amount donated. The number of visitors to Fleecehaven continued to increase during 2023 as post-covid travel, especially within the UK, began to return to normal. A Fleecehaven Calendar and Christmas Cards were produced again to raise much needed funds. However, increased costs have resulted in the margins made being significantly reduced. The website continues to provide access to information and an on-line shop.

- Advice regarding care of sheep has been given to a growing number of people.  Common areas of enquiry include: – the care of elderly sheep who require additional feed as grazing is no longer sufficient to sustain them;

- – information regarding flock management; – advice regarding medical treatment for pet sheep; – advice on how to report a farmer who was allegedly neglecting stock;

- – information on the need for sheep to be shorn; – other welfare matters pertaining to sheep.

Fund raising through EasyFundraising, EasySearch, Amazon Smile and Recycle4Charity continued to be promoted. More than 100 rescued sheep continued to be cared for daily throughout 2023. Although Fleecehaven continues to run at full capacity, several new rescues were taken in.

**Independent examiner's report on the accounts**

## **Section A                        Independent Examiner’s Report**

**Report to the trustees/** Fleecehaven **members of On accounts for the** 31[st] December 2023 **Charity** 1111004 **year ended no (if any) Set out on pages** 1-2 (remember to include the page numbers of additional sheets)

**Respective** The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. **responsibilities of** The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year **trustees and examiner** under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

   - examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,

   - to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and

   - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

- **Basis of independent** My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions **examiner’s statement** given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

**Independent** In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention **examiner's statement** (other than that disclosed below *)

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements:

   - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; and

   - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act

   - have not been met; or

2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
