Covid. The brothers S*an arm1 Andrèw wère Ihen left in total shock as the
local Cwncil ordered them to v&ate the prcwfy by Boxing Day as although
they were bolh born al the property neither of them was'narned, on t￿ rent
t)ook so they had to leav•1 They were lold thal tW had No continLty rightsl
a$ it had alrèady passed from Father to K4)ther.
When ￿ were ¢ontacted for help by the lyolh¢rf$ Ihey had alr¢ady endured
months ol stre53 and anxietyv*ith th& th￿l of eVK*1(￿ h8ngng over Ihem.
Andrew ihe youngef brother was aulistic and also had A￿rge(S Syndrome.
We knew Ihat all Councils had'di5cretion' to overrule the continuat•)n rulg
gUIdar￿ and cotsld not undersiand ￿Y Ihe Ccwjncd ￿ taken such a hard
stance in not letbng tham stay In what was their family home since birth. At
the s¥mg-time we joing(1 the famiV$ campaign ￿ r&ach8d out to DPAC
(Disabled People Against Cuts} to seek Iheir eXF¢rtso in housNJ matters for
disabled peop￿ and Ihey were able to spread the Bro3an5 pl￿h1.

case was in Ihe national press. SWLICAN started represenb.ng them al

Thanklully though, and after many meetings antj much soul searchirKJ tr
Council finally relented and made a'discrelionarf derision. which was one
ofthe first things we F¥Jinted rArt to them they could do. to allcw Sean ar
Andrew take over the rent bcok and keep their famity home. We were so
proLvJ to have been a part ol the Bfogan famills campaign. esFecialty given
such a po$itivg outo)me.
Moving through the summer monlh$ $tdl s• th¢ nLMnbers increasing
on prevtrJus years and found th? kKal CAB office sb"Il ¢l¢)sed meaning mor
and more agencies ￿ferrIrVj to U5. In effect the CAB has been rknsed ￿nt•

some devaststing news, Karen Defflpsey one of lead advise
was killed whist having 8 drink ￿￿th f8mly and fvTend5. She wa5 Mly
55 years old and had given so muth to her kxal communty as well
as the Wesl Lancashire c(Mnmunrty. We ￿Te so sFKKked and
saddened by this news we paused for a days lo lake it all trn as
Karen wa$ such a bubbly vibrant tharacter and ever￿ne loved her.
She will be so missed by us all.

We struggled throuth to the end of the ￿ar. the hjss of Kar
weighed heavy on everyLYte involved wilh SWLICAN. client numbers
slarted high in January and stsyed that way lo the end of the year.
Our accomplishments over this atvj the other Iwo years have been
amazing. Both Sarah's and the rest of the Lottery Team have
been so supportive during this time.
Due to all our gtJ)d work throughtyJl the parMleM￿, we have been
made the main referrer in our area for the Smallwcr#J Tnjst. They are
charity that only supports ￿rnen in overcorning fnanci* ￿se￿rity
and improving their social and emol*Jna ￿e1￿1n9.
We have also been chosen by SELNET as a main refefrer for their
'Under one roof project which supp)rts families and indiwduals in real
need of ￿hIte 9)c¥J's' or trwsehold furniture.
As you will see above the client numbers arg very concerning as we
move in to 2023 with everything that has happened so for in the
energy and financial sector5. SWLICAN will be there a5 V•E have
been for the last 20 years plus. Supporting our ccwnmunity, ￿Ing
there for anyone that needs us and f￿hting on their behalf lo mthe
sure they get the best qualty of lrfe and ￿*4￿be1ng p)ssIt￿e.
