. and friends, by a guest speaker from South Africa) and a talk and Q&A session on Bees for World Bee Day in May. In January and February 2021 we organised online ‘Creative Evenings’ presented by each of our members groups, which brought out some amazing presentations of poetry recitals, singing, photography and the sharing of things that ‘made our hearts sing’. We also published 6 digital issues of our magazine “New Acropolis — Philosophy and Education for the Future” and 1 paper issue (normally we would print 3 issues but due to COVID there was not many possibilities of distributing the paper issues). This year more of our members contributed to the magazine by writing articles, making use of the increased time spent at home. Activities in the field of Volunteering: All the activities in our School of Philosophy (teaching, cleaning and maintenance of the school, advertising, design of leaflets and course notes, etc.) are done on a voluntary and honorary basis and there are no paid positions in our charity. Every task is used as‘a practical exercise and application of philosophy in action. This year, our members were hardly able to use our premises but during the summer we managed to give the whole school a deep clean by working in small teams and organising the tasks well in advance. Despite the lockdowns we could organise 7 out of the planned 11 Compton Terrace Garden Volunteering Days (this is a joint project with neighbours, volunteers from the general public and the support of Islington Council), with 62 volunteers in total at these 7 days, plus an additional Bulb Planting Day with 12 people in December. We also decided to give our support to the Homeless Charity Margins, which is next door to our premises. **----- Start of picture text -----**
In May we collected a wide range of things they told us they
needed (from clothes, to bedding, to food, etc.) — this involved in
total 16 volunteers.

In December we raised £800 for Margins amongst our members,
madea collection of winter clothes and sent Christmas messages
to the homeless.

In September and October we joined the activities for World
Cleanup Day and organised 2 litter picks in London (in various
areas around our premises in Islington, but also at other London
sites where our members noticed a huge amount of rubbish -
Hackney Fields, Homerton, near the Castle at Manor House, etc).
We were 33 volunteers in total at these 2 events and we must
have collected at least 200 kg of rubbish in total.
