## **Trustees' Annual Report**

## **Background**

Bexhill Islamic Association was founded in 2002 to serve the Muslim Community of Bexhill and surrounding areas of Rother district in the county of East Sussex in United Kingdom. We first held the congregational Jumuah prayers on 7[th] January 2003 by hiring the local scout hall in Buckhurst Road. Alhamdulillah, by the Grace of Almighty Allah, the number of worshippers at Salat-ul-Jumuah has increased since we started.

The constitution approved by the community was registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales who confirmed our charitable status with effect from 23 May 2005.

From the outset our community had a clear vision to establish a local mosque and an Islamic cultural centre to enable us to hold five daily congregational prayers. In the absence of a permanent place the community has not been able to do this. The management made a number of enquiries to locate a piece of land or a suitable property for the proposed Masjid/community centre. The demand of an Islamic Centre in the Bexhill area had been put forward to Rother District Council in the past at a number of meetings.

## **Governance and Management**

The charity is operated under the rules of its constitution adopted 16[th] May 2004, amended 25[th] November 2012, with further amendments 8[th] June 2014. Trustees are elected according to the provisions laid out in the constitution.

## **Independent Examiner's report to the trustees**

## Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Act and that an independent examination is needed _._

It is my responsibility to:

- examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,

- to follow the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Act, and

to state whether particular matters have come to my attention

## Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
