TRUSTEES REPORT 2023
-
2023 has been a year of growth and impact for the church. Through the various church events and initiatives, we have continued to serve our community, fostering connection, support, and development.
-
A major opportunity offered by Rugby Town Centre Management, leading to action taken to grow the church and one that would significantly affect our costs, was to be offered a town centre large business premises for free (except utilities). (We were offered what was previously used by Argos - to give some idea of the size and location). This was inspired and led to a massive growth spurt for the church. Not without its challenges, the church came together to make a beautiful event location.
-
The knock-on effect of this was the youth church moving into our leased premises at no 23 Albert Street. No 23 continues as operational office base and is a developing resource, for the homework club and sunday school and youth activities.
-
We were also approached in the year because of our town centre location to host, in association with the Rugby Job Centre (DWP), the Warwickshire Jobs fair which again successfully highlighted the Impact of the Church in the Community.
-
Within the RCCG Global Missions objectives, in 2023 we continued to be a designated viewing centre for various RCCG Europe Continent 9 programmes, so that any RCCG member in our vicinity and in the Warwickshire environs would have a place to join in events and activities.
-
Additionally, in November 2023 we, as the Zonal Headquarters for Zone 1, Province 1, Region 4 UK, hosted the first Zonal conference for the Zone, bringing together all pastors, ministers, workers and members of the 28 - 30 RCCG Parishes under the Zone.
The decision to give the founding Pastor, Morola Hayden a regular stipend (agreed 2020 of £500/month) has still not been realised, although a petrol allowance of £50/week has been maintained throughout the year. Pastor Ola did attend the Minister’s Special Holy Ghost service and conference, called ‘Solemn Assembly’, in Nigeria and was supported with a donation of £1000 for travel and accommodation.
It was agreed to maintain the services of our Independent Advisor [Olutomi Osibanjo AMCT] for the foreseeable future.
Key Events and Activities:
-
The Light Up Warwickshire [Feb 18[th] ] event was successfully held, bringing together the community in a celebration of local culture, creativity and unity. The event was well-attended and received positive feedback from participants, helping to strengthen community bonds.
-
On April 9[th] we hosted the annual Easter Feast . This event provided an opportunity for the community to come together in celebration of Easter, with a focus on inclusivity and outreach to those who may feel isolated during the holiday season.
-
The Prayer Conference took place from June 14th to 17th. This four-day event featured a guest speaker, teachings, and prayer sessions, offering spiritual nourishment and guidance to attendees. The conference was well-received, with strong participation from both members and visitors.
4. Community Engagement Initiatives:
Warm Hub for the Needy: We continued and expanded our warm hub initiative, providing a safe and warm space for those in need, especially during the colder months. The hub has seen increased usage, reflecting its importance to the community.
Harvest Futures (Homework Club): Our Harvest Futures homework club continued to support young people with their educational needs. The program was scaled up this year, reaching more students and providing essential resources and tutoring to help them succeed academically.
Grant Funding for Youth Activities and Warm Hub: Efforts were made to secure additional grant funding to support youth activities and the warm hub. These funds have been instrumental in maintaining and expanding these critical services.
