Thc trustees, who are directors for the PUTposes of company law, pr¢sent the annual report together with the
financial statements of the charitable company for the year ended 31 March 2026.
Objeetives aDd aetivllies
The objedives of A¥e Concern Sandwi¢h Centre for the Retired remain unchanged and are io Promote th¢
welfare of the over 50$ in Sandwich and the surrounding villages, and offer chiiopody, hairdressing, curativ¢
therapy, tall(ing therapy, bathing. hot meal& transpon. Meals on Wheels, Befriending, and an information and
advice service from the Well-being C¢ntre. We also welcome people who just pop in lor snacks ond drinks. In
addition we off¢r a wide range of social activities both within the Centre such as Chair Yoga and scrdbble
clubs. The Chiel Officers woik closely with the Statutory Bodies such as Kent County Council, Dover District
Council, Voluntary Organizations. General Pra¢titioner5, Carers and Familie5 in the hop¢ that no one is l¢ft in
need.
Respit¢ care for those living wilh a Dementia and their carer5 is offered through the Sunflower Centre. The
Centr¢ hopes to ¢xpand on this higJly success￿1 servi¢c.
Ovcrall responsibiliry for the financial. day to day running and achieving aims and obje¢tlVCs of the charity is
with the Chief Officer. B¢T] Garratt. The Chief Officer reports regularly to the board of Trust¢cs, who decide the
strategic aim5 and objectives of d)e Charity. The Well-BeiDg Centre and shop5 are managed by Jackie Marsh
who is our operations rnanager. Dementia services and Sunflow¢r Centre are managed by Tina Scott. Both
operations manager and Dementia servic¢s manager report to the Chief Officer who reports to ihe board of
trustces.
All Staff and volunteer5 work exceptionally well as an organi5ed t¢am to provide probably the best Age Concem
facilities in Keni.
We are also Friends of Age UK.
We are also part of the United Age5 of Kent CIC, which is a ¢ongloTnerate of ¢harities that work togeth¢r to
provide s¢rvices throughout Kent,
AII OUT company pulicie5 including hcalth and safery, fire safety, safeguarding, fmBncial, reserves, data
protection and privacy policy have been thon)ughly reviewed in the ]￿t ycar and arc all up io date.
Public benefit
The trustees confimi ihai they have cotnplied with the requirements of section 17 of the Ct]aYitie5 Act 2011 to
have due regard to the pllblic benefit guidance publish¢d by the Charity Cotnmisgion for Englat)d and Wale8.

Achievements and performanc¢
Age Concem was set up in 1980 and since April 1st. 2U04, the Centre bas been opetated by Age Concern
Sandwich Centre for the Retire& a company limired by guarantee and has r¢gist¢red thi$ cvmpany with the
Chariry Commission.
As stated in previous years we are unable 10 exiend our facilities further due to the structural size of the
premises. However, we continue striving io maintain a comforrable, clean. and ivelcoming Centre for our
clients. All siaff h&$ received appropriaie rrainillg in all aspe¢is of tlieir job5 and fLJrther training is planned.
Ag¢ Concern Sandwich Centre for the Retired runs two Clwity Shop5 il) Sandwi¢h which are viral in fmancially
supporting the Well-beillg Centre. The Charity Shops in mark￿ Str¢et and Cattle Market continue to make a
great coniributioii to the Centre's fiDan¢¢s.
Both die Well-being Centre and Charity Shops ¢gDtinue to rely heavily On the invaluable help given by our
volunteers who work tir¢le5sly for our caus¢. These volunteers are overseen by th¢ operations manager, who ha
day to day responsibility for all matters relating to th¢ Well-being Centre and Chartty Shops.
None of our volunteers are exp¢ct¢d to lifr, bath or loilet any clients due to the f8¢t that the majority are ¢lderly
peopl¢ then￿¢1ve5. Th¢y do however work in our HairdrEssing Salon, Ihe Main Centre, the I'ea Bar, Meats i)n
Wh¢¢ls. B¢fri¢nding and Charity Shop5.
Financial review
Age Concern Sandwich Centre for the Retired no longer has an annual grant from Kent County Council Soci81
Services. The Trustees continue to review fully, the finances OF Lhe Charity. Funds are raised from grant givers,
The United Ages of Kent and DoveT District Council.
The asseis held by Age Concern Sandwich Cenire for I'he Retired will continue to be used to cary oui the
Centre's objectives.
During the year. income excecdcd expenditure by £28,115 increasing the reserves brought forward of £980.184
to give cumulative rescrvcs on 31st March 2026 of £1.008,299.
Policy on reserves
Our poli¢y is to continue building up r¢s¢rves to a level by rneans of aunual operating SUTpluses and judicious
manag¢meiit of our Invest￿ellt assets. There are plans for major Capital investments and cxpenditure in the
coming year. This includes renovating the treatmellt room aJ]d hairdressers. The totsl costs of these projects will
be in the region ot'£45,000.

Modernization of the Centre
We continue to improve th¢ existing W¢ll-Being Centre and make our facilities aitracti¥e nol only to our
existing clients but 10 the public in Sandwich in general. We have a rollino maintenance program and plan to
generally improv¢ the condition of the Well-being Cet)tre to Increase its popularity.
Fund Accounting
The direotors maintain a restricted fLmd to cov¢r ihe running costs incurred in respect of the minibus. App¢al
Funds raised will also become restricted fun(ts
Risk ManageEnent
The Truskes exatnine the Tnajor risks that the Chariry faces each finan¢ial year when preparing and updating the
strategic plan. The Charity is developing systems to monitor and control ihes¢ risks to mitigate any impact that
they may have on th¢ future of Age Concem Sandwich Ccntre for The Retired.

Age Concern Sandwich Centre for Th¢ Retired is an autonolnous Charity. Our association with Age UK is
purely in an advisory capa¢iry.

the gift to which they relate.

Expenditure

Charitable activitie5
Charitdble expenditure comprises those costs incutTed by ihe charity in the delivery of its activities and services
for ils b¢nefi¢iarie5. It includes both costs that can be all(Kated directly to such activities and those costs of an

Support costs
Support costs in¢lude central ￿nCtionS and have been allocated to activity cost categories on a basis consistent
with the use of resources, for example. allocating property costs by floor areas. or per capita, staff costs by the
lim¢ speni and other costs by their usage.
Taxation
The charity is considered to pass the tests set out in Paragraph I Schedule 6 of the Finance Aet 2010 and
therefore it meets the defmition of a charitable company lor UK Qotporatioll tax purposes. Accordingly. the
¢harity IS POt¢ntially exempt from taxatioll in respect of income or capital gains received within c&te&pories
overed by Chapter 3 Part I S of the Corporation Tax Act 2010 or Section 256 of the Taxation of ChJrbJeable
Gains Act 1992, to the ¢xtent that such income or gains are applied exclusivcly to charitsble purposes.
