- 3) The advancement of education, in the United Kingdom, Kenya and elsewhere, on the basis of Christian principles and without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing the provisions of such education in any educational establishment and if the trustees so decide the provision of one or more charitable educational establishments for the general education of children or adults on the basis of such Christian principle.
- 4) The provision of resources and financial support in the United Kingdom, Kenya and elsewhere that enable poor and needy people to improve their quality of life.
- 1) _The advancement of the Christian Faith._ Hope and Kindness Ministry continues to support the church that has been established in Kosele, Western Kenya. Despite the problems caused by the Covid Pandemic (which affected churches worldwide) the church continued to serve the needs of its members. The Youth Church met regularly, and the young leaders of the church were encouraged by the response of the young people in attendance during the year.
**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**
- 2) _The relief of persons who are in conditions of need, hardship, or distress or who are orphaned aged or sick_ . Hope and Kindness continued its relief work within the local community. As ever the hardships endured in the very poor rural community which Hope and Kindness serves continued to make life very challenging in and around Kosele. Hope and Kindness responded to these needs by providing food relief, money to meet medical needs and assistance with housing costs to needy and vulnerable families and individuals.
- Hope and Kindness Ministry continues to maintain and staff an orphanage in Kosele, Western Kenya. The number of children permanently cared for in the orphanage remained at 12.
- 3) _The advancement of education, in the United Kingdom, Kenya and elsewhere_ . The Nursery and Primary Schools that Hope and Kindness maintain continued to provide for the educational needs of 250 children. The Primary School pupils in Class 8 achieved good results in the national KCPE examinations.
Teacher training continued during the year and further steps were taken to add to the schools’ ICT resources. These two practices help to maintain high standard in our schools.
Planning for the establishment of a Junior High School in January 2023 continued. Hope and Kindness leaders and the school leadership team worked together with local education officials to facilitate a successful start for the Junior High School.

Hope and Kindness Ministry has maintained its provision of food and medical assistance to needy members of the local community in this period. Rent payments were maintained to meet the housing needs for needy families during this period.

Our (unpaid) volunteers in the UK have continued to work very hard at fund raising and raising awareness of the work of Hope and Kindness. We are very grateful and thankful for the extra contribution that they make to the work and long term sustainability of Hope and Kindness.

Income generating activities in Kenya, through Agribusiness projects, are being pursued. The farm team in Kosele is growing in confidence and technical proficiency, giving Hope and Kindness cause for optimism in these activities as a viable source of sustainable income in the future.

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**
- Continuous provision of care for 12 orphans at the orphanage in Kosele, Western Kenya. As in previous years all running costs for the orphanage are met without incurring any debts or running an overdraft. The children receive a high standard of care, nutrition and education from a long-established team of Kenyan care staff and teachers.
- Continuing provision of full time nursery and primary education for 250 children. All of these children receive breakfast and lunch free at school.
- The aquaponics project was expanded during this period. Hope and Kindness is committed to generating funds in Kenya to help the work become sustainable in the long term. This initiative is especially important now in light of the multiple uncertainties created by the Covid pandemic and global financial challenges.
The cricket farming project continued during this year. This is a technically challenging project and the farm team continued to experiment with the best methods for maximising cricket production.
- Hope and Kindness provided a variety of types of assistance to local community members in this year – meeting food, housing, employment, medical and other family needs.
- Hope and Kindness continued to provide regular employment for full time and part time staff in the primary school and orphanage and casual labour for members of the local community when required. Hope and Kindness staff are covered for the Kenya National Health Insurance Fund. (NHIF). This fund provides a significant benefit to employees. As a registered employer in Kenya Hope and Kindness also pays the required NSSF (National Social Security Fund) contributions on behalf of employees. All of these practices make a significant difference to the well-being of our staff.
- Continuing to maintain sufficient financial support for the organisation’s work and sustaining income derived from sponsorship and donations during this period. Hope and Kindness is very thankful for the loyalty and commitment of long-term sponsors and donors who make the work in Kosele possible.
- Hope and Kindness owns all of the land and buildings that it works from and has no debt.
- Mr. Dancun Oruko, continues to lead the work of Hope and Kindness in Kenya. He and his leadership team rose to the challenges of leading the work as part of a long term legacy transition. This remains an extremely important step in the

Our Agribusiness projects are expanding as part of a planned strategy to generate income to support the work of Hope and Kindness in the future. All of the land, infrastructure and stock required for these projects are owned outright by Hope and Kindness. Hope and Kindness has incurred no debt in moving forward with these projects.

Plans to open a Junior High School, in line with Government changes to the education system in Kenya, are in hand.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended **DD / MM / YYYY** .
**Responsibilities and** As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the **basis of report** accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
