Annual Report – December 2022 – November 2023

Registered Charity:110897

ICE WALES is a small charity made up largely of volunteer workers and including three part time employed staff members (one full time equivalent). It is managed by a group of six trustees.

The purpose of the trust is to support mainly primary schools in the delivery of teaching the Christian faith in keeping with the current school curriculum. This is achieved through assemblies, story times, workshops, Bible clubs and the five week “Walk through the Bible” classroom programme which presents both Old and New Testament teaching separately. This provision aims to present Bible stories and Christian values in an engaging and interactive manner.

Through the course of the year it became apparent that there was a need to employ schools workers on a part-time basis in order to meet the growing needs in the South East Wales area. Three part time appointments were made and, as a result, the work was able to expand and more schools were supported in their delivery of Religion, Values and Ethics as required by the current Welsh curriculum. However, this put pressure on the trust finances and a decision was made to look for grant funding in support of the work. The accounts show that this has been successful and grants have been awarded by several funding organisations that recognise and value the work the trust is involved in.

The trustees consider this to have been a very positive year and the demands for Christian teaching are continuing to grow. The trust is fully committed to carrying out the remit of ICE Wales to serve schools and children in our local areas and to encourage churches in the “adoption” of their nearby schools.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Charities Act”)

and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner's statement

My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

Independent Examiners Statement

I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
