2022-23 has felt like the first “normal” year of operations since 2019.  It has been a long period of coping with a broad range of challenges, adjusting to new ways of working and ensuring the core elements of the TRT programme are still being coached, promoted and made available to our target audience all over Zimbabwe. 

- The Sizinda Camp development has hosted local volunteer groups for TRT programme education and planning as well as international visiting groups participating in 1 and 2 week long programmes in the community. Despite it being very early days for the camp, 2023 saw the first donation to the charity by the trading subsidiary TRT Sizinda Camp Ltd.  We are confident that as more groups sign up to stay at the camp the size of these donations will increase. 

The focus on Zimbabwe for the foreseeable future has meant our involvement in Uganda and Zambia in particular has been limited to sharing coaching syllabus and sending donated kit and equipment to some of the long term volunteers in those countries that still maintain their own tag activities. 

## **Objectives and activities**

_To Build Futures Through Rugby by spreading the Tag Rugby Trust skills programme as far and wide as possible.  The vehicle for this is mass participation of Tag Rugby for primary school boys and girls.  The means to achieve this is through developing the skills of adults and young leaders to a level where they can establish and sustain the playing of Tag Rugby in schools and TRT Tag Centres_ . 

Our focus now in Zimbabwe continues to offer a range of training and development opportunities to young leaders, volunteers and teachers **Summary of the main** that prepare them to launch community clubs in their locality.  Through **activities in relation to these** these clubs a range of sporting, social and educational outcomes are **objects** delivered.  We also facilitate UK volunteers visiting our programme locations as individuals or groups (schools, clubs and corporates).

In the current year, TRT has experienced a continued resurgence in the momentum of its social outreach projects, affirming its commitment to community development. Our programmes have expanded their reach to attract diverse groups, both national and international, underlining TRT’s reputation for providing relevant, safe, traditional and culturally enriching experiences for all fundamentally powered by volunteers. Amidst this growth, TRT is proud to announce the initiation of a significant secondary school project. This endeavour aims to make secondary school students increasingly active in their communities through tag and social outreach projects. TRT recognizes the vital role that education plays in shaping the future of young people, and this project reflects the organisation's commitment to empowering the youth of Zimbabwe. 

In collaboration with local partners, TRT is also actively engaged in a groundbreaking initiative to raise awareness about Human-Wildlife Conflict in primary schools. By working closely with the EleCrew organization, known for their considerate care for elephants, TRT is implementing an educational module aimed at fostering understanding and empathy among primary school children. This initiative not only contributes to wildlife conservation efforts but also nurtures a sense of responsibility and harmony between humans and wildlife from an early age. 

The partnership with UCL and the Pristine Victoria Falls Society to address environmental concerns, particularly the issue of plastic waste in Victoria Falls, has led to the formation of a dedicated social enterprise, the Izeeko Foundation. TRT is dedicated to building on its successes, forging new collaborations, and making a meaningful difference in the communities it serves. The journey continues, with each project reflecting TRT's unwavering commitment to social responsibility and community betterment.

## Achievements and performance 

In 2022-23 TRT demonstrated remarkable resilience and commitment, **Summary of the main** successfully navigating the continued challenges posed by the ongoing **achievements of the charity** local (inflation and elections) and global (travel costs and global **during the year** economic uncertainty) situations. We celebrated a year marked by substantial achievements across various key initiatives. The reestablishment of all our core outreach programs in the community allowing TRT to reconnect with and positively impact the lives of individuals in all 10 provinces of Zimbabwe. One standout accomplishment was the expansion of TRT's sports and outreach programs to secondary schools. Despite reservations in previous years, the decision to introduce a slightly adapted version of tag to pupils was driven by the opportunity to create a pathway in to young leadership for boys and girls who had come through the primary school tag route. This forward-thinking approach reflects TRT's adaptability and responsiveness to the evolving needs and interests of the communities we work with. The year 2022-23 can be characterised as a year of consolidation around the core pillars of what TRT represents.  We have seen many new beginnings, combining programme innovation with the familiar commitment of volunteer manpower working closely with communities on a range of causes. We believe our ability to overcome obstacles, introduce impactful initiatives, and strategically evolve our development models positions us well for continued success in making a meaningful and positive difference in the communities we serve. With a resounding spirit of "onwards and upwards" we look forward to building on these achievements in the coming years.

## **Other optional information** 

TRT exits the 22-23 year in sound shape having streamlined our operations to focus exclusively on Zimbabwe. As we embark on what seems to be a return to operational normality, there is a palpable sense of optimism within the TRT trustee, staff, and volunteer community. While challenges abound in the aftermath of the pandemic, securing continued support from sponsors and partners remains a top priority. Encouragingly, early indications are promising, with our supporters and partners demonstrating unwavering belief in our mission, fortifying our commitment to the impactful projects and initiatives we undertake. 

Sizinda Camp has very quickly become an amazing facility offering visitors a distinctive accommodation experience in Zimbabwe based around hands on involvement in TRT programmes in the region.  We believe this endeavour will create lasting positive memories of the country, TRT, and the dedicated local staff and volunteers. Such experiences are expected to enhance our reputation, drawing more individuals to engage with us in the future. 

Turning the page on the more subdued atmosphere of the past few years, TRT is thrilled about the several exciting partnerships and projects awaiting our involvement in the upcoming year.

TRT looks to have successfully faced the challenges and particularly the hangover in the 3[rd] Sector from the COVID pandemic and pre-pandemic supporters are re-engaging. 

There are no material problems or issues identified during the year Nov 2022 to Oct 2023. 

There is no concern surrounding the net draw on reserves of £26,190.  It matches very closely the addition to reserves from 21-22.  In addition, reserve levels of £97,919 are at an acceptable level . 

The decision to focus efforts on Zimbabwe and the creation of a trading subsidiary, TRT Sizinda Camp Ltd, have been positive developments. The camp in Victoria Falls is expected to provide a sustainable income for charitable operations in Zimbabwe in the future and it has been good to see the first donation from the trading subsidiary come through. 

The Trustees' prudent financial approach continues to allow the charity to achieve its objectives.  This provides continued optimism for TRT's future achievements. 

The charity continues to be below the stipulated turnover for the adoption of accruals accounting principles, so I am not recommending any changes to the method of accounting reporting.
