The trustees, who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006. herein present
their report with the unaudited financial statements of the chariiy for the year ended 31 March 2025.
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in Note I to
the accounts and comply with the charity's governing document, the Charities Act 2011, the Companies Act
2006 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities
preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard 102 applicable in the UK and
Republic of Ireland.

OBJECTIVES ANO AcfiviTIES
Home-5tart Southport and Formby provide free, friendly and confidential support to families with pre-
school age children through our volunteer horne visiting, group work and social events. Our trained
volunteers work alon85ide families, offering practical help, emotional support, and guidance.
Our mission is to help parents grow in confidence to strengthen and enjoy thelr relatlonships with their
young children to the full and to widen their links within the communlty. We belleve that children need a
good start in life and that parents play the key role in ensurin8 that they have a happy and secure
childhood to help them reach thelr full potential.
We offer a unique servlce for farnllles in our area by recruiting and training volunteers to visit families at
home to offer informal, non-judzemental, friendly sUPPOrt to help them throu8h dlfflcult times.
Our services across Southport and Formby include:

Achievements and Performance Apr 24- Mar 25
We supported $78 beneficiaries through home visits, targeted groups, family events and
activities. 372 Children and 206 parents/carers.
85 new families were referred to our seniice, 267 individuals.
25 parentslcarers received free counselling from our in-house counselling service.
1122 of free counselling sesslonsl
Volunteers gave 1890 hours supportin8 families.
93% of parents reported an improvement in their mental health and wellbeing after receiving
Home-start support.
94% of parents reported feeling less isolated.
85% of parents reported an improvement in their self esteem.
94% of parents reported being more involved with their children's learning and development.
Volunteers:
Our volunteers are the heart of Home-start. During 24-25 we recruited and tralned 8 new volunteers, and a
team of 35 volunteers offered emotional and prartical support to local families.
Volunteers attend a course of preparation, receive on.going training and mandatory annual safeguarding
refresher training.
Volunteers receive 6-8 weekly documented support and supervislon from the Famlly Support Co-ordlnator.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
The charity had income of £172,26612024; £148,067) and expenditure of £148,43812024; £135,635).
At 31 March 2025 there were General Funds of £31,148, Designated Funds of £48,731 and Restricted Funds
of £62,944.The charity holds 3 months runnlng costs as reSe￿e$, plus the necessary contractual reseNes to
provide for potential redundancy costs,
The Trustees are responslble for keeplng proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy
at any time the financial positlon of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements
comply with the Companies Act 2006. The Trustees are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the
charity and hence taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Basls of preparatlon
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the charity's governing document, the
Companies Act 2006. FRS 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of
Ireland" I'FRS 102,1 and the Charities SORP Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of
Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with Ihe Financial
Reporting Standard applicable In the UK and Republic of Ireland {FRS 1021" (effective l January 2019).
The charity meets the definition of a publlc benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially
recognised at historical cost or transactlon value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accountin8
policy note. The functional currency used Is the £ Sterllng.

Recognition of
income
Income is included in the Statement of Financial Activities ISOFAI when the charity
becomes entitled to, and virtually certain to receive, the income and the amount of
the income can be measured with sufficient reliability.

Freehold investment property
Investment properties are measured initially at cost and subsequently at fair value at each balance sheet
date and are not depreciated. All gains or losses are taken to the Statement of Financial Activities as they
arise.
Stocks
Stock is included at the lower of cost or net realisable value. Donated Items of stock are recognised at fair
value which is the amount the charity would have been wllling to pay for the items on the open market.
Trade and other debtors
Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount due after any trade discount offered,
Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid net of any trade discounts due.
Cash and cash equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents comprise cash at bank and on hand, demand deposits with banks and other
short-term highly liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less and bank overdrafts.
In the statement of financial position, bank overdrafts are shown within borrowings or current liabilities.
In the Statement of Cash Flows, cash and cash equivalents are shown net of bank overdrafts that are
repayable on demand and form an integral part of the company's cash management.
Trade and other creditors
Short term creditors are measured at the transaction prSce. Other creditors and provisions are reco8nised
where the charity has a present obligation resulting from a past event that will probably resu It in the
transfer of funds to a third party and the arnount due to settle the obligation can be measured or
estimated reliably. Creditors and prov151ons are normally reco8nlsed at their settlement amount after
allowin8 for any trade discounts due.
Research and development
Expenditure on research and development is written off in the year in which it is incurred.
Foreign currencles
Monetary assets and liabilitles denominated in currencles other than the funttional currency of the
charity are translated at the rates of exchange prevailing at the end of the reporting period.
Transactions in currencie5 Other than the functional currency of the charity are recorded at the rate of
exchange on the date that the transaction occurred.
All exchan8e differences are are taken into account in arriving at net income/expenditure.

Leased assets
Where the charity enters into a lease which entails taking substantially all the risks and rewards of
ownership of an asset, the lease is treated as a finance lease.
Leases which do not transfer substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership to charity are classrfied
as operating leases.
Assets held under finance leases are initially recognised as assets of the charity at their fair value at the
inception of the lease or, if lower, at the present value of the minimum lease payments. The
corresponding liability to the lessor is included in the balance sheet date as a finance lease obligation.
Lease payments are apportioned between finance expenses and reduction of the lease obligation so as to
achieve a constant rate of interest on the remaining balance of the liability. Finance expenses are
reco8nised immediately, unless they are directly attributable to qualifying assets, in which case they are
capitalised in accordance with the charity's policy on borrowing costs.
Assets held under finance leases are depreciated in the same way as owned assets.
Operating lease payments are recognised as an expense on a strai8ht-Ilne basls over the lease term,
In the event that lease incentives are received to enter into operatin8 leases, such incentives are
recognised as a liability. The aggregate benefit of incentives is recognised as a reduction of rental
expense on a straight-line basis.
Pension costs
The chariiy operates a defined contribution plan for its employees. A defined contribution plan Is a
pension plan under which the cornpany pays fixed contributions Into a separate entity. Once the
contributions have been paid the company has no further payments obllgatlons, The contrlbutions are
recognised as expenses when they fall due, Amounts not pald are shown In accruals in the balance sheet.
The assets of the plan are held separately frorn the company In Independently admlnlstered funds.
Receipt of donated goods, facllltles and servkes
All donated 8oods, facilities and sepiices received are recognised withln Incomlng resources and
expenditure at an estimate of the value to the charity.
