## Structure, governance and management

The Trust was constituted by a Declaration of Trust dated 25 November 2004.

## Objectives and activities

The promotion of medical research on terms that the results of such research are published, including (but not restricted to):

1. Research in the field of biophysics; 2. Research into the causes and treatment of neurological diseases; and

3. The study of electro-magnetic fields in living things and the use of such fields in the treatment of disease.

## Achievements and performance

It is noted that the Trustees continued to support projects via the University of Surrey.

The most recent donation to a project was used by the University for a PhD studentship dedicated to investigating the electromagnetic sensitivity of neurons and neuronal ion channels within the Quantum Doctoral Training Centre.

Two further sums for the amount of £35,586 and £35,886 were made in favour of further research projects via the University of Surrey in November 2024 and March 2025 respectively.

The total donations therefore made to various research projects throughout the period was £71,472.

At the time of preparing these accounts and report the Trustees are looking into options as to who to support moving forward. The Trustees are considering the options of supporting the research of Margaret Ahmad who is based at a university in Paris. In the first instance the Trustees would be looking to donate £11,500 to this project but may look to make further donations if requested.

## Reserves

The charity has been endowed and obtains all of its income from the investment of that endowment. The Trustees have so far made no long term commitments that are likely to exceed their investment income. Even if they choose to do so in the future, that is likely to be conscious decision to commit capital resources to a particular project even if that meant that over time the charity’s resources were entirely spent. Accordingly, the Trustees do not consider it currently necessary to maintain any particular cash sum as reserves.

## Declaration

The Trustees declare that they have approved the Trustees’ report above.

Signed on behalf of the charity’s Trustees

## The John Jacob Astor Charitable Trust (RCN: 1108789)

## Independent examiner’s report on the accounts for the year to 5 April 2025

The charity’s Trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (‘the Act’)) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility:

- e To examine the accounts (under section 43 of the Act);

- e To follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 43(7)(b) of the Act); and

- e To state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

My examination was carried out in accordance with General Discretions given by the Charity Commissioners. An explanation includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures of the accounts, and seeking explanations from the Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently | do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the Trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that proper accounting records are kept (in accordance with section 41 of the Act) and accounts are prepared which agree with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Act; or

2. To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
