TO THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2026
The Centre has greatly benefitted from a committed group of volunteers who have maintained the premises, held pujas, taught and supported the NKT teaching program.
THE PREMISES
The yard’s main drain has been cleared and mesh added which is helping to reduce leaves and debris from blocking the drain; the mildewed silicone around wash basin and bath in the bathroom has been replaced; Gen Rak-ma said there was no need to paint grouting around the decals above the wash basin; the utility area signage has been rehung for impact/clarity; in room 3, the protruding screws in the wardrobe have been trimmed and the lamp shade replaced. With gratitude to Derek and Will for their kindness in supporting the Centre in this way.
The advice of a local builder is that there is nothing that can be done to improve the hanging of the residence’s front door, and that replacing it will a big job as the whole surround above and to the side will need to be knocked out and replaced within one working day as the flat opens onto the town centre and there are residents.
In February, landlord’s architect will visit to draw up plans for converting the basement into a flat to inform an application for change of purpose, and then he will put the properties on the market.
TEACHING PROGRAMME
Maitreya Centre
Gen Kelsang Rak-ma kindly led Maitreya KBC’s first away retreat which was held at Nagarjuna Centre and was very well received.
The programme continued with a weekly FP class, 5 GP classes - one morning, one midday, one afternoon and two evening classes - pujas, including Heart Jewel, Offering to the Spiritual Guide, powa and Tara prayers, weekly Prayers for World Peace and twice monthly morning courses and retreats.
Branches

The two branch GP classes, Eastbourne and St. Leonards on Sea, ran weekly throughout the year. Battle was moved to once a month from October.
Atendance
Numbers continued to slowly pick up for courses but attendance at Battle has tailed off.
The Centre had 28 monthly members in December 2025.
FUTURE PLANS
Teaching programme
A weekly class at Robertsbridge will be trialled, along with four Saturday morning courses in Alfriston between May and September to avoid rainy weather/flooded roads, and Battle will continue once monthly.
Premises
The current rental agreement allows the Centre to provide accommodation for the RT and make a reliable surplus. There is nothing currently available that fits that bill, and there are no funds for a deposit for a mortgage for a property purchase.
The rent the Centre pays is low and there is no problem finding suitable residents because the flat is pleasant, it is in a central location and the residence and the Centre are separate. If a new landlord raises the rent beyond what is affordable, the Centre will need to find accommodation suitable for the RT and premises suitable for classes, preferably a dedicated let rather than a room hire.
