Hucknall and Linby Dolphins Swimming Club
Aims of the Club
Hucknall and Linby Dolphins aims to provide a swimming club to Hucknall, Linby and the surrounding areas. We aim to provide accessible swimming to the very beginner through to the competitive swimmer who can enter various galas and open meets.
Our swimming journey starts at Southglade leisure centre, with a cubs swimming squad - designed for our youngest swimmers. Once a child progresses enough, they are then able to join our junior development squads at Hucknall Leisure Centre, where they can continue to achieve to the best of their ability. Some of our older swimmers stay at the club whilst at University and beyond.
Our coaching programme is designed by our head coach to develop the childrens’ swimming not only to progress to competitive swimming but also to enjoy swimming at our club. We strongly believe that if children enjoy themselves, the results will be far better.
The club currently has 78 Club Train (formally category 1, with a decrease of 21 from 2021) and 44 Club Compete (formally category 2, and increase of 24 from 2021), with another 21 Club Support (formally category 3) volunteers. This is a slight increase from last year, and we will be looking to recruit further members, particularly those within the Club Compete sections of the club. The increase in Club Compete members reflects the training improvements within the club over the last year.
Major Activities and Achievements in the Year.
The club has increased the number of poolside helpers, and ensured that poolside helpers have been able to access the training that they require and want.
The number of swimmers who have been competing in open meets has increased significantly, and this, alongside significant efforts with training, has resulted in an impressive number of swimmers achieving County times (46 county times at time of writing), participating in East Midland Championships and qualifying for National competitions (National Masters, Scottish Nationals and Welsh Nationals).
The club has continued to increase the number of swimmers partaking in more than one session, from around 60% to 65%. Most swimmers now starting the club, start on two sessions.
Financial Activities
This financial year sees our first full year of swimming after the COVID pandemic. Fees were increased last year because of a forecasted deficit, to ensure the club broke even on membership and training fees, which was achieved:
Total income for membership and training: £28,599
Total membership and training expenses: £28,206
Net surplus: £393
The year did however see a deficit of £2,444. This is mainly due to the investment in volunteer training, which had been on hold for the previous 2 years during the pandemic. Volunteer training costs for the year were £1,787, and of this £1,611.50 was spent on training six Level 1 coaches and

one Level 2 coach. This investment has improved the quality of training for members and allowed volunteer workload to be shared across sessions.
Membership and training fees will be reviewed as part of the merger with Falcons ASC, to ensure that the increased pool hire costs from additional sessions will be met, but we aim to keep any increases as minimal as possible.
The club has healthy reserves of £21,917, but we do not want to see these decline in the funding of ordinary training activities.
Chairman’s Report
The biggest milestone this year is the merger with Falcons ASC. This will provide an opportunity for both clubs to increase the swimming time, swimming members and volunteer base, and will provide Hucknall and the surrounding area with a truly competitive club for all swimmers.
Reflecting on last year’s finances, the club made a deficit of £2444, which is largely due to the investment in training for our volunteers. This has led to significant improvements to training and helped lead a larger number of swimmers to be able to compete in County Championships and above. We met our aim from last year to have a greater presence at the County Championships, with 12 swimmers qualifying at time of writing. We took our first teams to the County Relay Championships in 2022, and this year aim to enter a wider range of relay teams. With the merger taking place before County Championships, we will be aiming to take a large number of swimmers to compete in both Championships and Relays as part of competitive teams.
Despite the increase in poolside helpers, there is still a need for additional parent volunteers, and as a joint club, this will be a focus, specifically to ensure that we have sufficient officials for open meets and volunteers to support with the day to day running.
This year we had a Swim Mark health check, and once again passed.
Over the last year we have not been able to increase the level of leagues that we offer to swimmers, but we aimed to give plenty of opportunities to swimmers through open meets and time trials.
The Future
The aim over the next year is to successfully merge with Falcons ASC, this will involve a change of name and policies to meet the needs of all swimmers. This will also lead to an increase in swimming sessions available for swimmers. There will be a need to reconsider the development pathway for swimmers and ensure that there are opportunities for all swimmers to swim and compete in a range of leagues and open meets. There is also a desire to host open meets and ensure that there are opportunities through licensed time trials to enable more swimmers to be able to compete at counties, should they wish.
Our overall aim of the club is to remain a club that allows all swimmers to enjoy swimming first and foremost, but to allow opportunities to be competitive should swimmers wish.
A key area for the club must be investing time in developing swimmers as individuals. Ensuring that swimmers have progress meetings with coaches so that we are targeting training and meets. In addition there is a need to train officials within the club to allow us to be more self-sufficient with running licenced time trials. There is a commitment of this club to run licenced time trials to allow opportunities for all swimmers. As part of the development of the new club, we aim to develop club funds to be able to support swimmers from all backgrounds.

Finally there is a need to integrate the club, to ensure that there is consistency and cohesiveness across all aspects. A drive to integrate the great work that has taken place by Falcons ASC and Dolphins over the last few years and ensure that together there is a drive to be a club of choice for parents and swimmers in Hucknall and the surrounding areas.

EXAMINERS REPORT TO THE COMMITTEE
I report on the accounts for the Hucknall & Linby Dolphins for the Year End 31[st] August 2022.
The constitution of the club states the Committee shall be responsible for ensuring that the Accounts of the Club for each financial year be examined by an independent examiner to be appointed by the members in General Meeting. The committee consider that an audit is not required under section 43(2) of the charities INDEPENDENT act 1993 (the 1933 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:

Examine the accounts under Section 43 of the 1933 Act

Follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under Section 43(7) (b) of the 1933 act, and
-
State whether particulars have come to my attention.
Basis of the Independent Examiner’s Statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the Committee concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the Accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
- Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements
To keep accounting records in accordance with Section 41 of the 1933 Act; and
To prepare accounts which accord the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 1933 Act have not been met; or
