4.0 CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
Presented by Caroline Hodkinson.
This being the end of my third year as Chairman, I have offered to stand as Chairman for a
fourth year and will be identifying a replacement to work alongside me in preparation for
taking over at the AGM next year.
Our society continues to thrive. Membership is holding steady at around 200 members with
12 new members joining this new programme year. Lectures have been well attended at
around 130 attendees each month, occasionally close to 150. We are seeing an
encouraging number of visitors and guests most months. The programme of lectures has
been varied ranging from the ancient Jurassic world of Mary Anning to the ultra-modern
Untouchable Art and non-fungible tokens; from Portraits in English Country Houses to
the cultural crossroads of Sicily; from the national collection of treasures at the Wallace
museum to a lecturer’s collection of extraordinary mediaeval musical instruments. We look
forward to the next enticing selection.
Day visits to Watts Gallery and Artist’s Village and to Stratfield Saye House and a trip to
the opera at Glyndebourne were well supported and some fully subscribed. New additions
to our social calendar were a meal out at Fareham College and outings to the cinema to
watch live opera, ballet and theatre. We also had a holiday to the Peak District. Our select
group of 19 all enjoyed exploring this very different and interesting part of the country.
To raise the profile of our Society and attract new members, we promoted the Society at
the Titchfield Art and Craft Show, and continue to regularly submit articles to the Titchfield
News. We find word of mouth is still the best way to spread the word.
We used our own society funds and some Area and Head Office funding to support art
provision in schools locally: Baycroft School for children with special education needs
pottery day at Bursledon Brickworks and a new national Art Competition, ‘Art Bytes’, for
Titchfield Primary School. We also contributed funds to the ever creative Titchfield
Yarnbombers.
The Church Recording team have nearly finished recording the Church of St John the
Baptist in Shedfield and will be starting to record St Peter’s, Bishops Waltham soon. They
welcome new volunteers to join them and will provide training. The Book Conservation
team continues to meet once a month at the Institute of Naval Medicine. They currently
have a waiting list for anyone that might like to join them as space within the library is
limited. At Head Office the new Board of Trustees that took over last year have had a
stable year and will be holding their first AGM in September.
I would like to thank the committee for all the work they have put in this year and to all our
regular volunteers and helpers especially Geoff Goodwin and Julian Gibbs who set up our
sound system each month.
I would also like to thank our wonderful coffee team. Joan Selby and Jenny Goldie have
been organising and serving the coffees for 20 and 15 years respectively. They have
indicated that they would like to hang up their tea towels in the near future and give
someone else a turn. Maureen Beirne and Sylvia Pagliaro will both be staying on to keep
things running smoothly.
5.0 TREASURER’S REPORT
Produced by Janet McIntosh, outgoing Treasurer and Michael Fisher, Independent
Examiner. Presented by Bruce Cozens, incoming Treasurer.
Please note there was a typo in line 18 which should read £7736.33 not £10266.
We have always strived in supporting local Charities, this year being no exception. We
applied for a £250 Community Grant available from our Head Office (line 25). We made
charitable donations to Titchfield Yarnbombers, Bursledon Brickworks and Titchfield
Primary School. Overall we made a loss of £674.
The Society’s finances remain healthy with funds of £17026.67 which includes £5225 (line
6) of 2025/26 Membership subscriptions and £1560 (line 19) for a trip to Glyndebourne in
October 2025. We have generated a profit of £2204.17. However, when taking into
account the loss of the charitable donation outlined above (taken from reserves), the
Society made an overall profit of £1530.17. Gift Aid contributes a significant amount to our
funds and we would appeal to all our eligible Members to sign up for this.
We are aware that we need to meet ongoing costs of Head Office, this year it was
£3134.86 (line11).
Thanks to Michael Fisher, Independent Examiner for his help and guidance in preparing
this report.
The Annual Accounts were proposed by Sue Wells, seconded by Edward Richardson and
were accepted by a unanimous show of hands.
6.0 ELECTION OF THE EXECUTIVE OFFICERS

4th year) was proposed by Roger Mawby, seconded by Jeremy Pagliaro and was

Receipts - The income £18869.19 (line 7) is up by £5205.97 compared to the previous year of £13663.22, this is due to members paying their renewals subscriptions prior to the commencement of the 2025/2026 Financial Year, £5225 (line 6). Payments - Lecture Programme - £11132.86 (lines 8-17) compared to the previous year £12078.03 which were slightly less because the Committee continue to make appropriate | cost savings where ever possible to reflect the rising costs and the falling numbers of | members. | Special Events generated a profit £1926.84 (lines19-22) compared to previous year profit of £490.89. As mentioned at the last AGM this was not a true reflection because it included £2000 income for the 2022/23 annual lunch and costs of £200.
