Artistic Director Rosie Nisbet and freelance staff member Becca Evans took 8 of our 16+ members to Edlnburgh for week to visit the famous Fringe Festival. They were given many opportunlties throughout the year, including Jumble sales and bake sales to fundraise for their trip. In partnership with C Venues, Stage2 leafletted for 3 hours a day in exchange for free passes to all shows. It was a hu8e success, the members had the most excitlng tlme seeing over 30 shows each, and recelved many compliments from C Venues on their efficiency, pollteness and professlonalism, The Summer Schools conslsted of five days (Monday to Frldayl, runnlng from 10am tlll 5pm each day. There were two options, one being the devlslng summer school whlch saw Nisbet hand over creatlve Ilcence to the members, In preparation for the Autumn Term production l AM.... and the other a 'plck and mix, week with a dlfferent focus each day, run by a different industry professional. The summer schools were a huge succe55, attracting 42 partlcipants across both options. Rosle Ni5bet's summer sch¢)ol saw members age from 10 - 18 discusslng the theme of identlty, generatlng Idea5 of what Identity means to them. It w35 an Incredibly rewardln8 experlence for all Involved, unpacking the experiences of belng Sncludlng, LGBTQ+, neurodiver8ent, people of colour, and so much more. The final day involved auditlons for the productlon, before flve young writers all took devised Ideas from the week and pieced it together to write l AM.... The 'pick and mix, summer schoo15 were equally a succe55, wlth members old and brand-new thrivin8 In a Jam-packed week of playin& movln& slngin& maklng and actlng. The buzz and energy of both optlons respectlvely compllmented each other well, and as the two sessions ran alon8slde one another, the whole cohort shared breaks: creatln g a hugely posltlve atmosphere that offered nlce prospects for Stage2's year ahead. Autumn Term 2023 We worked incredibly hard over the Summer to recrult new members for the Autumn Term, includlng malntaining people who had lolned durlng the August Summer Schoo15. Both options were flexlble and engaging sessions that allowed for the development of core drama skills, In additlon to onfidence buildlng and fun. Both optlons performed a collection of thelr work at the end of term to parents. The thlrd optlon was rehearsals for l AM Created In the summer schools, thSs production was hugely personal to the whole CaSL whose Ideas and contrlbutlons were the foundation of the scrlpt. The script Itself had been written by a team of five young wrlters also in the show, and it followed the themes of Identlty, and what St means to be a young person today. The show included cast and chorus rehearsals In the mornlng, Wlth only cast required In the afternoon. Agaln, this show was a huge succe55. recelvlng a 5 star revlew from Behind the Arras, and member5 Krrlsh Mehta and Evie Mumford being awarded a special Achlevement by the BDTG Award5 for thelr performance5.
