The Trustees of Reach the Children are pleased to submit their report and accounts for the year ended 31
December 2023.
Charitable Objects
To relieve poverty of childr¢n living in Africa who are in conditions of need, hardship and distress. To
advance the education of such children.
Anllual Review
A purpose built facility for the preparation and pro¢essing of dried fNtt products wa5 coMple￿d duriiig the
y¢ar. Following completion of reinedial work. occupation of the fa¢ilily ivent ahead. At the beginning of tlie
year a heat ¢x¢hange dryer was ord¢red from China and shipped to Luwero for installation in the new
processing facility. Grandmas subsequ¢ntl)' r￿CIVed trainiug in heahh and safety requirements, &nd the
preparntioii and drying of the fruit. Since that time pineapples groivn and harvested at Luwero have been
process￿ with great success.
The produ¢l range of dried tropical fruit under the 'from GT8ndmas Gardens. brand has been extended to
include dried rnango pieces through a partner organisation Jakana. From the Tnodel garden established in 2019
in one acr¢ and 15,000 pin¢apple sucke￿, the Luwero Centre has extended the pineapple plantstion to four
fields with 8 tolal of 75.000 pineapple suckers under cultivatioi). Sales of dried pineapple and dried inango
through ADiazon are very promising, increasing week on week.
The l Told My Story Competition ?023 was rolled out to 20 state Schools beneficial outcome5 for P7
schoolchildren preparing for secondary school. The project continues to be sw>nsored by Tony Jordan, CEO of
Red Planet Picture4 part of the Asacha Nledia Group. who is passionate about the programme. All 20 s¢hools
recEive initial trdining sessions designed io en¢ournge childrcn to develop and use their imagination. This will
help improi'e writing skills, enabling them to write bett¢r 5torie5 alld have a clearer view of their future
potential.
Remote Springs continue to be protected, providing hundreds of families in the community with clean watcr.
This work further benefits the IIKal communities b>. providing emplo)qnent for local tradespeopl¢. Spriiigs
selectsd by local eonununitj leaders are those that nci'er dry out though the water pressure inay lesseii during
the dry season. Tbis reliable water source enabl¢5 children to collect waler each morniiig for washing,
cooking and laundry and still 8et to school on lime for daily lessons. Tlie most significwit benefit however is
the rediiction in wat¢r-ly)rn¢ diseases to the children aDd th¢ wider community.
The Birungi Skills C¢ntr¢ for disabled and hearing impaired children has now been fully funded, witli
decoration and floor iiling the fmal items to be completed. This centre will train children with specia] needs in
life Skills that will assist them to earn a Ilving and su51ain a famil},. The first students will be taken in as
boarders in early 2024 due to th¢ ill healih of Halima, the Chairwoman ￿]d founder of the Centrc.
The year 20?4 repr¢sents the 20th anniversary of Reach the Children li) Uganda. A niimber of projects have
been highlighted including School latrines witii a WaJhroom for grirls. proteetion of sprii)gs:' and planling of
¢U￿lYptuS trKs and stone maTkers indicating the border of RTC Centre near LuTrero. Charitable donatioii
requests ¢ontinue to be directed to supporters past. present and future, including friends of Reaeh the Children.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity ('kne Trust") for the year ended

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts Cwried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act
and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity
