Aims, Objectives and Public Benefit The objects of the Charity are the preservation. repair, restoration, Inaintenance and improvement (either by means of alteration or by means of addilion for the public benefit) of the fabric of St G¢orge's RC c.hurch. Taunton, the old pre-school nursery. the old school, the rectory and parish ccntre and the contents, Inajor fittiiigys and ornajnents, but without prejudice to the giencrality of the foi'egFoing, the orgFaii cliim¢s. statues, monuments. brasses. vesnnents and grounds and ancillary charitable purposes. The Friends of St Georges RC Church - Taunton has as its main aiin and purpose the raising) of funds to support the parish priest in his work, and the Roinan Catholic and wider coinmunity of Taunton by maintaining and iinproving St Georges Church, the old pre-school nursery, the old school, the rectory, parish centre and bFround& The trustees in considering these aims and purposes have considered the Commission's guidance on Public benefit and the specific guidance on charities for the advanccillent of rclig?ion. Achievements and Performanee The Victorian Church as a Grade Il* listed building is iinportant as the main centre of Roman Catholic worship in Taunton and surrounding¥ area, as well as being part of tlie cultural and historic heritage of the town. The church is kept open almost all day every day for private worship or for any ineinber of the public for private prayer or just as a place for quiet. intimat¢ and peaceful reflection. In addition to use by the parish. the parish centre and ancillary buildings are available for hire and are used by many local organisations. not linked to the church. including The Women's Institute, the NHS and various clubs. Trustees, Responsibllities The Charities Act 199.3 requires the Trustees to prepare a Receipts and Payments Account and a Statemenl of Assets and Liabilities. The TTUStees are responsible for k¢cping prop¢r accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any tiine the financial position of the Chai'ity. They are also responsible for safebyuardinby the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irrebiularities. Review of the Year Friends of St Georgye's Trust was started in 2005 as a charity for the preservation. repair, restoration inaintenance and improvement of the fabric of St Georgie's Chui'ch and associated property. Since then, throug7h the &Fenerosity of parishioners. the trustees have raised fuiids to install the window at the north end of the church. th¢ cleaning and repair of the slained &ylass window above the altat and fund Inany other repairs and iinpTovements. During? the year 2023-2024 the Trust was asked by the parish Priest for fundin&7 Tefurbishment of the church libyhtinbl to modern standards and LED ligihting (£26,791), reinoval of asbestos revealed by the quinquennial survey (£58,085) and a contribution towards secondary glazingy in the rectory {£15.000). The Trust is bjenerously supported by parishioners who contribute by standingi order or by joining the 200 Club. The Trust is also supported by both legyacies and donations at funerals. On behalf of the Parish Congregation and the Parish Priest. may I thank all the parishioners who contribute to this worthy charity. This year Geraldine Braycotton resigned as a trustee and was replaced by Adrian Gamble. Personally l also would like to thank iny fellow trustees for their tiine and skills in maintaining the mist. Due to the agye and fabric of the church and buildingys to which the Charity has a responsibility. the trustees feel it is prudent to in&xiinise the levels held in byeneral reserves to cover unexpected and unscheduled expenditure on repairs. Friends of St George's RC Church Taunton Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees for the year ended 31 March 2024 I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Friends of St George's RC Church Taunton (the Trust) for the year ended 31 March 2024. Responsibilities and basis of report As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the pieparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act,). I report in respect of iny examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under the section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out iny exaininatton I have followed all the applicable Directions 7iven by the Charity Coininission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. Independent examiner's statement I have coinpleted my examination. I confimi that no inaierial matters have coine to my attention in connection with the exwnination biiving Ine cause to believe that in any inaterial respect.. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the the accounts do not accord with those records. have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention sliould b¢ di'awn in this r¢port in order to enable a proper understandingy of the accounts to be reached. Trustees Remuneration and Expenses No remuneration has been paid to any of the trustees during the y¢ar (2023 - £nil). Independent Examiner's Fee 2024 2023 Indq)endent Exaininer's Fee Unrestricted and Restricted Funds Restricted funds are the unexpended balances of funds raised for specific purposes WTthin the Charity's objectives and which must be applied for those purposes only. All fuiids raised by the charity prior to l April 201 O were for the purposes of inslallingy a new stained ylass window and the redecoration of the church in celebration of the church's 150 anntversary. The balance of funds held at 31 March 2010 was therefore restricted to that specific purpose. Unrestricted funds are the free funds of a Cliarity, which ar¢ not designat¢d for a particular pury)ose, and can therefore be used in furtherance of the general objects of the Charity. At 31 March 2024 all funds were held in unrestricted funds. Page 8
