Independent Examiner’s Report on the Accounts

Accruals Accounts

Report to the trustees/members of Calvary Chapel, Birmingham

Registered Charity Number 1107980

On the accounts for the year ended 31[st] December 2021

Set out on the following pages

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity¹s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to: examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act; follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and

state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Prose Report 2021 Calvary Chapel Birmingham

The following report is intended to give an overview of the activities of Calvary Chapel Birmingham in fulfilment of the charity constitution.

Sunday Morning Broadcast & In-Person

Teaching the Bible continues to be the main focus of Calvary Chapel Birmingham and has been achieved in the last year in several different ways. Our Sunday service is the key event of the week, where people can hear the Bible taught and benefit from a time of fellowship with others. The broadcast continues to take place on different social media platforms to help bring the support that people needed and craved, especially during the pandemic when we were not able gather together. Having a weekly Sunday service allows our people to feel supported by the charity, knowing that we would be there each week, as we have been year on year. Sunday services are back to being in-person events after the shift to online-only last year.

Wednesday Evening Broadcast

The Wednesday evening study session has continued through broadcast throughout this year. This session is still incorporating opportunities for those who are being trained to teach, to practice in a slightly less formal setting and a shorter service. It has proven to be an effective way of enabling them to gain confidence in teaching.

Friday Devotionals Broadcast

A Friday evening devotional has been broadcast throughout this year, consisting of a short 5-10 minute video on social-media. This is another session incorporating opportunities for those who are being trained to teach, to practice in a slightly less formal setting. It has proven to be an effective way of enabling them to gain confidence in teaching. It has also provided for a shorter video that is more accessible for those using social-media, that enables them to be easier recipients of the wider mission of Calvary Chapel Birmingham.

Men’s and Women’s Studies

On Zoom

Our men’s and women’s meetings have continued to run this year, both on Zoom and in-person, and have grown into more established groups, both meeting twice per month. The women meet on Friday evenings, while the men meet on Saturday mornings.

Children’s Ministry

In-Person

Our children’s ministry began in-person again this year, and consists of an interactive time of worship and bible teaching. This has allowed for the children to engage in worship tailored to them as well as bible teaching.

Supporting the Needy

A key part of our mission statement is to aid in alleviating poverty and help the poor and those in need. We have been able to continue this as a result of the giving from the church family. We have helped multiple families within church who were in need, as well as helping multiple single women within the church with basic necessities such as food and bills. Moreover, as a result of the lockdowns and the effects of them we have been making regular mental health visits to the majority of our congregation. We have also given to outreach and benevolence more this year to assist people within the church reaching out to those less fortunate and the vulnerable, and to share the gospel message.

Church Fellowship

On Zoom

We continued and were able to host many regular times of fellowship on Zoom, allowing us to help tackle the loneliness and isolation that many people within the community were feeling as a result of lockdowns or the effects afterwards.

Coffee Ministry

We revamped our coffee service before and after church into a coffee ministry. This has allowed for people visiting to receive barista coffee without having to pay the prices otherwise incurred when visiting coffee shops. As well as enabling many to receive coffee, it has also provided the opportunity to teach younger people within the community skills and the experience to enable them to show to prospective employers.

Youth Group

We have been able to host many regular times of fellowship for the youth within the community, allowing us to help provide alternative opportunities for the youth. This has been helpful in providing a safe-space for youth, as well as a time for them to feel heard

Other Ministries

We were able to support several families this year, particularly as there were new babies born to our members. We were able to provide meals for them and help them in their adjustment as growing families. We have continued to spend time visiting people, helping them with groceries and bills, and praying with them and supporting them in any way we can. This year we continues to use our app to help alleviate any feelings of isolation or loneliness and help ensure that everyone felt more connected.
