## **Performance and Achievements**
In a world full of worries and troubles, it is a delight to see the joy, humility and hope that emanate from the Nagajuna School. The honest curiosity that the children bring and the dedicated care of the teachers and staff, is a lesson to us all.
The cost of living and inflation continues to be hideous in Nepal and we find our funds stretched, especially for fuel. Yet the school continues to thrive, to give children a place and education so that they may find their purpose in the future.
Dennis Crommentuijn-Marsh, one of our Trustees was able to visit during this financial year. This gave another opportunity to ensure that our funds are being used appropriately, and that good governance prevails. A thorough audit was conducted of both accounts and spending, matching these back with our UK charity fund distribution. The trip bought renewed motivation to continue to support these fine young people and their carers.
We continued to enjoy support from our kind and generous regular sponsors who have been the steady income we have need. We remain grateful to them all.

## **The Year in Nepal: April 2023 – March 2024**
## April
During this time of year, the children are work harder than usual as it can determine their grade for the whole year. The excitement to move to the next grade comes with lots of hard work and determination. The children are up early around 4:00 AM and some of the seniors stay up quite late studying for their exams.
The perseverance and hard work of everyone finally tallies in numbers. Most of the students worked very hard and did not leave any stone unturned. The prize distribution was on 7[th] April and everyone enjoyed it.
## May
Tsering Yangchen it's from a remote village in Manang and she joined Nagajuna when she was just five years old. She started at Nagajuna from kindergarten, working all away up to her degree. She graduated from Baldwin Methodist College in Bangalore with a degree in Business Administration. She has decided to volunteer at the school for a few years before she joins the workforce. Tsering is teaching English from kindergarten to grade 5. She has been implementing different strategies she had learned from her stay in Bangalore. Her her gentle persona makes her extremely careful and polite towards the children.
## June
Ever since the establishment of Nagajuna, Yeshi has made all the attempts he could for the children to have everything a regular school would have. Despite all this, we were still in need of more resources and experts to build a library that was age appropriate and that could enhance the existing knowledge. All dreams came true when Haileybury school Australia, decided to sponsor us with a library. We did not have a library prior to this project, the new library not only accommodates books but also a computer room, a staff room and storage. Yeshi did the best he could to buy children books when he came to India or Kathmandu but since the rest were mostly donated, the old books were all genres and it lacked resources. This new library project promised to not only bring books that were age appropriate but to accommodate the children's level of knowledge and understanding. It came with a container with furnishings that houses all the books.
## July
Dance competition 6th of July. With the completion of the annual exam, the school environment is a bit more relaxed and there is ample time to focus on extra curriculum activities like dance. The children, under the guidance

of the teachers, chose to a song to compete with other children from of the other houses. We invited a choreographer as a judge in the inter house dance competition.
Mr Srogstsen La and Mr Yangzom Gyalzur have been consistently supporting Nagajuna for quite a few years through their charity. Everything they have been providing was based on the pictures sent by Yeshi and they had never visited the school. After the pandemic they finally decided to visit Nagajuna and meet the children they had been supporting. They got to know more about the current situation of the school and the backgrounds of the children.
## August
Nagajuna has been receiving Haileybury volunteers since 2000. There has always been so much to learn for the children here at Nagajuna each time they visit. This time the highlight of their visit was setting up the library that the students of Haileybury had worked so hard for and fundraised. Their hard work to make this library the best they could was visible and the children along with Yeshi appreciate all their efforts. During their visit they interacted with the children of Nagajuna and shared about each other's lifestyles. They also taught the children Australian songs, games and briefed them about where in the world Australia was located. None of the children in Nagajuna have been out of the country and it is always fascinating for them to find out about people living in other countries that they can only see in their atlas. On the last day of their visit Yeshi gave all the volunteers a token of love and the children performed a few dances and songs to entertain them, which was a reflection of the culture of the children here at Nagajuna.
Every year, the children practice cultural dances and songs which is also a part of their physical activity. These dances keep them active and more focused when they go back to studying after their practices. As a consequence of the pandemic and social distancing protocols, we could not engage the children in these activities. As soon as the restrictions were removed, we started these activities again. It would not make sense to just practice them so to make it more fruitful and in order for the kids to gain stage confidence, we perform the Annual cultural shows in various settlement camps. These shows teach the children to manage time, face the audience and overall gain confidence and have faith in their performances. The spectators enjoy watching these shows and some people even donated money to show support for the school and to appreciate the children's hard work.
## September
Usually we have the annual school picnic after these cultural shows, as these shows take up a huge amount of energy from the children. They have to change their costumes as fast as they can for the next performances. Hence a school picnic after these events is a perfect getaway. This year, Yeshi took the children to a swimming pool that was

located a few kilometres out of the city. It had scenic views. While Yeshi and Tenzin were cooking meals for the children that day, the children enjoyed swimming and eating all the snacks that were being served. From breakfast to their late evening snacks, Yeshi cooked everything himself so the kids would enjoy the best of the best. There were few children who stayed in the water for almost 4-5 hours. There was also a little park with toys for children which the others could enjoy. Around 4 pm in the evening, Tenzin, the staffs and the children gathered around and started dancing. More and more children joined until it was dark and time to go back to school.
## October
Every year school organize a quiz competition, this year also we organized quiz competition among 2 houses Trisong and Songstsen with 8 students from each house. The quiz competition was cover a wide range of topic like science history, literature and many more. Finally, Songtsen house won the trophy for this year.
## November
Completion of Pemba Chodon's Nursing School [Rajarajeswari Medical College, Bangalore]. It has been almost 25 years since Nagajuna was first established with the intentions to help the needy of the Himalayan region of Nepal. Our first graduate was Anup who graduated in 2020 with a degree in Pharmaceuticals. Each time a child graduates, it gives us immense pleasure and pride as it is the hard work of all the sponsors, well-wishers and Yeshi. This year too, Pemba Chodon who was studying nursing in Bangalore, India graduated and was able to secure herself a job in a hospital in Bangalore. Like her sister Yangchen, she also joined Nagajuna at a very young age, when she was 8. She started Kindergarten as well. Eventually she worked extremely hard, as she only started learning English when she was 8, when most of her classmates were much younger than her. All her hard work paid off and once again a moment of victory for everyone who supported her education. She came from a family that could not afford her proper food or education but now she is able to live off her degree and education.
## December
We were blessed with a visit from Dennis, our Dutch Trustee from the UK and his daughter and friends. The visit was filled with acts of kindness and support that made a lasting impact on both the school and its students. The key contributions was the donation of a bread maker, which will help provide fresh bread to the children, ensuring they have a nutritious meal. They also took on the task of fixing the fence between the kitchen, improving safety and security the school’s food preparation area. In addition, they led the effort to repaint the school, purchasing the necessary paints and working to refresh the walls around the entire school. The hard work transformed the space, making it brighter and welcoming to the children. They also made a significant contribution to Karma Dechen’s health, for the eye surgery, which helped improve her vision and overall well-being. They also ensured the school’s lifter was fixed, making it easier for staff to transport heavy items. Moreover, Dennis committed to providing weekly

fruit deliveries for the children, ensuring they have access to healthy snacks. The visit wasn't just about fixing things it was a heartfelt demonstration of care and dedication to improve the children's lives in every possible way. Their generosity and hard work left a lasting impact on the school both in terms of infrastructure and the well-being of the students.
## February
Celebrating Tibetan new year at Nagajuna school is an eagerly awaited event for the children, filled with joy and anticipation. On the morning of Losar, students wake up early, the excitement palpable as they prepare for the day of celebration. The air is filled with energy as they get dressed in their new clothes and traditional Tibetan outfits, a special occasion that marks the beginning of the new year. The children, full of enthusiasm, help with the preparations for the day's festivities. Traditional foods, such as momos (dumplings) and sweet treats, are prepared with care, and this whole school buses with the delicious smell of the Losar feast. The students are eager to assist, feeling a strong sense of pride in contributing to the celebration. Throughout the day, the school comes alive with music, dance, and laughter. Traditional Tibetan songs fill the air and the children take part in dances, clapping and spinning in joyful celebration. It's a day where the younger students learn about their cultural traditions from their older peers, everyone, including the teachers and the staff, join in the fun

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/03/2024
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts **Responsibilities and basis** in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). **of report**
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
- **Independent examiner's** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come **statement** to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
