## The charity is an **unincorporated association** . 



## **Appointment of Trustees** 

Trustees are appointed or reappointed annually at the **Annual General Meeting** , held in March. 

## **Governance Arrangements** 

Membership of the choir is open to adult men from the Holme Valley and surrounding areas. The trustees oversee the day-to-day running of the choir and regularly seek the views of members and staff when determining activities and priorities. 

## **Objectives and Activities** 

## **Charitable Objects** 

“The study and practice of choral music, to foster public knowledge and appreciation of such music by means of public performance, and to assist and support such charitable institutions or purposes as the Committee shall from time to time determine.”

## **Public Benefit Activities** 

The choir fulfils its objectives primarily through public performance. In doing so, it: 

- Supports local community events and festivals 

- Contributes to charitable fundraising activities 

- Promotes the wellbeing of its volunteer members through collective music-making and social engagement 



## **Achievements and Performance** 

During the reporting period, the choir performed at **eight concerts** , continuing to bring choral music to local audiences in pursuit of its primary charitable purpose. 

These activities supported the objectives of local community organisations, including churches, schools and charities. In addition: 

   - A recital was given in **Whitby** , helping the local parish raise funds for building repairs. 

   - Members continued to donate to a range of charities through the choir’s **Hundred Club** . 

- The choir also contributed to the wider community by: 

   - Hosting a community singing workshop at the **Holmfirth Festival of Folk** 

   - Supporting **The Great Kirkburton Sing** , a local village event in aid of Kirkwood Hospice 

   - Hosting a **Caribbean Night** celebrating the Caribbean heritage of choir members 

The wellbeing of members was further promoted through regular rehearsals, performances and a programme of social activities extending beyond formal choir events. 

## **Financial Review** 

A slight reduction in concert receipts during 2024/25 was offset by: 

- Increased membership subscriptions late in the previous year 

- Interest earned on deposit accounts 

- A Parish Council Community Grant supporting community-related costs 

These factors, together with other income, resulted in a **modest surplus of approximately £1.9k** , slightly higher than in the previous year. 



## **Reserves Policy** 

The choir maintains reserves of approximately **£25k** , including **£10k held on 95-day notice deposit** , in order to: 

- Replace equipment (such as instruments and uniform) that cannot be funded immediately from annual income 

- Meet advance costs of large events prior to recovery through ticket sales 

- Provide resilience against shortfalls in anticipated income 

- Plan for significant medium-term costs over a 2 – 5-year horizon 

There are . **no funds in material deficit** 

## **Other Information** 

The typical age of choir members is currently **70 years and above** , which presents some uncertainty over long-term sustainability. To address this, additional recruitment activity is planned for **2025/26** , targeting men across a broader age range. Early indications are encouraging: three new members joined during the first three months of the new operating year, at least two of whom are significantly younger than the established membership profile.
