Major rlsks
Akademi's major risks are principally the withdrawal of funds by any of our major funders, including publlc
bodies. Steps have been taken by the Trustees to ensure that there is regular dlalogue with Arts Council
England and that a fundraising strategy to diverslfy our income streams is put In place, Akademi has a
comprehensive risk analysis which Is available on request, Systems have been established to enable and
ensure regular reports are produced so that the necessary steps can be taken to lessen these risks.

storytelllng, rhythm, and gestures to create deeper connections wlth each other and our wider world. Care Is
at the centre of all that we do. Akademl has been the beatlng heart of South Aslan dance In the UK slnce
1979, and our vlsion Is that South Aslan dance Isa vltal part of everyone's creatlve expresslon.
Slnce Akademi's formatlon by renowned South Aslan dance performer and teacher Tara Ralkumar OAM, and
the work of Artlstlc Dlrector Mira Kaushlk OBE from 1988-2019, we have grown into the UK'S leadlng dance
organlsation dedicated to developing South Asian dance at the hlghest level.
Akademi Is known for our world-class dance performances and groundbreakln8 wellbeing programmes. Our
work 15 for everyone, and we brln8 our work to our communlties. You can find us In everyday places from
theatres, parks, shoppin8 centres and festivals to h05Pltals, care homes and schools. Through the captlvatlng
forms of South Asian dance Ilke Bharatanatyam and Kathak, we bring loy, insplration and hope to people's
lives.
The artistlc communlty we work with are our collaborators and partners. We engage with internationally
recognised dancers, choreographers, and artists to nurture the future generatlon of South Asian dance form
leaders. We collaborate with environmental, science and health speci3115ts to share stories of the societal
and sclentific issues of our world today.

Akademi's work generates significant public benefit across the interconnected areas in which it operates
including community engagement, performance, and artist development. Our beneficiaries are wide ranging.
They include older adults, hospital patients and N HS staff, children and young people, those who are Black,
Asian minority ethnic, disabled people, low-income families, people with Special Educational Needs, South
Asian dance professionals, artists and their collaborators and aspiring dancers and creatlves.

delivery of an agreed artistic programme. Our income from grants, commissions and earned sources supports
the appreciation, knowledge of and community• education, and health participation in South Asian dance for
the public dlrectly through performances and participatory en838ement and workshops.
Akademi's activitles, approach, plans and manifesto throughout 2024125 demonstrated our strong allgnment
with ACE'S current strategy - Let's Create Outcomes of Creative People, Cultural Communities and A Creative
and Cultural County; and their Investment Prlnclples (IPS) of Inclusion and Relevance, Ambition and Qualitv,
Dynamism and Environmental Responslbllity.

Productlons
Akademi's current tourlng productions, Pravaas and Plastlc Drastlc Fantastlc are both inspired by our
commitment to awareness bullding through performance and creativity in response to the global cllmate
emergency and 5UStalnable actlon.
Plastlc Drastlc Fantsstlc {PDF) is a contemporary dance theatre work for chlldren and their farnilies which
explores our complex relatlonship with plastics - the fantastic possibilities they offer, as well as the drastic
consequences to the environment. Drawing from South Aslan dance techniques, the production explores
plastics and the dangers of their misuse through intricate movement& gestures and play Infused with
interattion with the audlence.

Originally produced in 2022 with Polka Theatre London, PDF debuted with 49 performances at Polka and
Waterman's London reaching over 1500 people. A 2023 tour with new cast of 3 took in 11 venues Including
Great Ormond Street Hospital London, well known regional theatres and 4 schools, performing 22 shows
across England. Total audience figures were 1666 with 792 children l young people taking part in schools and
family workshops. The produttion also include5 relaxed performances, workshops for Special Educational
Needs pupils and Q&A sessions with scientists and the production's cast and creatives,
In 2024125 our commitment to reaching new audlences continued as PDF was remounted for 4
performances at London's Southbank Centre for 390 family & chlldren audience and also at Universlty
College London East Earth Day12 show5 and I workshop for 160 primary school pupilsl includlng talks and
workshops for puplls dellvered by sclentists from Unlverslty College London's Plastlcs Innovation Hub. Show5

In early 2025, Akademl fulfllled an ambltlon to share our worklng prattlces around cllmate themes and
audlence accessiblllty Internatlonally wlth our exchange partnershlp wlth the Unlverslty of Southern
Mlsslsslppl (USMI. Bulldlng on USM'S vlslt to London In 2023, where the unlversity's dance students
partlcipated In workshops wlth Akademl's Artlstic Dlrector, Suba then completed a two-week creatlve
resSdency at USM to create a new verslon of the show on USM'S students. Suba also dellvered a serles of
talks and led technlcal practice sesslons, providing students wlth valuable insl8hts Into the Intersectlon of
dance and dlgital Innovatlon. The re51dency culmlnated in a presentatlon of a Wof k-ln-progress plece, whlch
showcased Suba's ongolng exploratlon of dance and creatlve technology. The collaboration resulted In the
production of PDF danced by the USM student5 for local prlmary school puplls In Hattlesburg Mi551sslppl, and
school for deaf chlldren, utilising the sensory cushions,
The themes of environmental awareness and, specifically, cllmate mi8ratlon are front and centre wlth
Akademl's other tourlng produttlon, Pravaas. In 24125 work was undertaken to promote the productlon to
the outdoor clrcult for remountln8 in 2026 in conjunction wlth the commissloner Wlthout Walls and thelr
Totjrlng Network Partners. Akademi aims to reconflgure the productlon for the outdoor circuit with learnlng
from the production's green rlder, for a sustainable touring. Meanwhile, Pravaas was the inspiration for our
school's collaboratlon, Maitrl-Too Isee below). In addition, Akademi has been successful with a Brltlsh
Council grant for a new international project drawing on the themes of Pravaas. Dancestors wlll create new
works that reflect the experiences of marginalised communities. This Initiative will involve workshops and
performances in Malaysia, with the members of Ma13ysia's Orang Asli Semai community culminating In a
large-scale work-in-progress in summer 2025.

As part of the inaugural commissions by the V&A Museum for their new Storehouse, Akademi created
'Mehfooz' _ a dance film project inspired by the Agra Colonnade, one of the largest architectural fragments to
be displayed at the V&A East Storehouse. Choreographed by Shyam Dattani and filmed by Romain Beck,
Mehfooz features 12 young emerging dance participants from the Ioc31 community who took part in
workshops explorlng and interpreting the rich history of the Agra Colonnade and its place in modern UK
soclety. The resulting dance fllm is displayed on a contlnuous loop at the V&A East Storehouse. The V&A East
has invited Akademi to curate a day of events for summer 2025.
Learning & Partlclpatlon Programme
Akademl's established Learning & Partlclpation activity portfollo contlnues to go from strength to strength,
consolidating and deepening the impact of our work wlthin SEND and malnstream schools through our
programmes Reach Out and Reveal and Maltrl Too, a5 well as In hospltals, care home5 and community
centres through Akademl's Dance Well pro8ramme.
As well as malntalnln8 servlce dellvery to our communlty partners, 2024125 saw an emphasis on our
monltoring, evaluation and research f rameworks, worklng with artists and our host communlty settlngs to
establlsh quantltatlve data plllars of impatt alongside case studle5, partlclpant volces and observatlonal
studies, This evaluation Is helpin8 to illustrate the impact of our dance interventlons In statlstlcal form,
showing participant developments and Improvement5 across soclal, physlcal and well-belng pillars whllst also
guidln8 our practlce to encourage Innovation and learnlng.
2024125 was also a year of research and plannlng for the future, contlnulng our formal research project In
SEND schools wlth academlcs from Roehampton and M Iddlesex Unlversltles, and bulldlng a new NHS cllent
base and intel for expanslon of Dance Well into UK wlde h05Pltals. Akademi's work In mainstream schools
has grown to facllltate collaboratlon between schools, and activltles to engage EAL learners.
Health & Wellbeln8 Pro8rammes
Dance Well -
Akademl's partlclpatory and performance programrne whlch alms to Improve the health and w•llbèln8 of
people In the UK through the medlum of South Aslan Dance.
Dance Well is delivered for people of all ages and abllltles In a range of clinical and communlty settlngs
includlng hospitals, care homes and communlty centres, Dance Well alms to encourage partlcipants take part
In more cultural and exerclse activities, to help partlclpants self-manage their chronlc condltlons through
incorporatlng exerclse Into their daily routine and to positively impact patlents, and staff wellbeing& social
engagement and mental stimulatlon.

In 2024125 across our two regular London hospltals (Chelsea and Westminster and West Middlesex), we
fulfilled 47 full day dance and movement sessions reaching more than 500 partlcipants through direct
performance and participation within individual bays and In wider wards. Our movement interventions
reached both older people and paediatric wards, involving families and staff in the sessions. This dellvery is
lower than last year due to CW+ Ithe hospital's Charitable Trust) consolidating their service request into
delivery just at Chelsea and Westmln5ter hospltal later in the year.
Our Dance Well work in hospitals has been compllmented by additional actlvlty and new partnerships.
In November 2023, Akademi took part in the Wellcome Collection's Perspective Tours event In conjunttion
with CW+ Arts for All programme. Akademi artists Jesal Patel, Shyam Dattanl and Salonl Saraf showcased
performances and presented techniques to engage patlents with South Asian dance.
Akademl also returned to Guy's and St. Thomas, Hospital to perform at their lunchtime concert serles
organised by Breathe Arts Health Research,
Akademl has contlnued to develop our focus on specialist movement Interventions utilizlng South Aslan
dance forms In Care Homes for older communlty resldents to Improve physlcal, cognltlve, and emotlonal
wellbelng. Across our regular care homes settlngs In Camden, London ISprln8 Grove and Maitland Parkl we
dellvered 98 sesslons across the year for up to 25 residents per sesslon. We have found that the use of
expressive hand gestures Imudra51 and the use of props have helped to malntain Jolnt moblllty, whlle
footwork, balance drllls, and adaptable movement sequences supported physlcal actlvlty and strength
bullding. Work with re51dents to developi learn and lead short choreo8raphles of thelr own has aided
memory use, whlle the warm, welcomlng and fun envlronment fosters soclal connection, self-expresslon, and
meaningful frlendshlp5, all of which support emotlonal wellbein8. Care-home managers observed enhanced
conf Idence In residents, movement, wlth reduced demand on care staff durlng transfers and meals.

Focus on extending our reach to more older participant5 resulted In a new partnership wlth KYN Care Homes
group In Bromley and Hurllngham (Hammersmlth and Fulham) London deliverin8 6 separate engagements
across 2024. Particlpation was excellent, includlng older adults living with dementla, those with mobility
issues and those recovering from surgery, along with family members and care home staff. In addition,
Akademi's expertise in movement and health was commissioned by Rambert and Colours of Redbrldge
where we provided sessions for approximately 60 older people, dlsabled people and people wlth care and
support needs at the Marjorie Collins Centre, Redbridge.
Akademi's work in communlty centres188 sessions across Holborn Community Centre and Third Age Project
Camden) also focu5es on engagement with older adults deliverin8 dance workshops for health and fitness
and providing much needed social interattion.

Third Age Project.
Across 2024/25 Akademi's Dance Well programme employed 12 freelance South Asian dance form artlsts,
facllltators and performers and Included shadowing and training opportunlties for artlsts to develop thelr
skllls and experlence in workln8 Wlthln communlty settlngs and hospltal5.
Dance Well is funded by The Llnbury Trust wlth contrlbutlons from CW+ for the artlst dellvery In Chelsea &
Westmlnster Hospital. 2024125 is year 3 of a 3-year funding cycle for the Llnbury Trust and we have
embarked on a new natlonal strategy to reapply to the Linbury Trust for a new fundlng cycle.
Natlonal Expanslon of Dance Well
Acr055 2024/25 we explored and researched the vlablllty of the expanslon of Dance Well to hospltals In
reglonal areas. UtSllsin8 pro bono support from Create Equlty vla a public health consultant to work wlth the
Executlve Team, we identlf led strategy and routes to a new plpelSne of potentlal N HS clients, These new
connectlons and potential partnerships have strengthened Akademl's posltion within the national Arts and
Health sector, enabllng us to secure additlonal NHS contracts for Dance Well dellvery whlle collaborating
wlth research partners Breathe Arts and Health to develop innovative impact measurement and evaluatlon
methodologles. A new 3-year strategic grant was submltted to the Llnbury Trust for the contlnuatlon and
expanslon of Dance Well wlth fundlng of £150,000 across 3 years. Akademl ha5 notlflcation of the success of
thls appllcation In summer 2025, alongside another successful grant from Sport England for work across 3
care home5. NatSonal rollout of Dance Well reglonal expansion wlll start In autumn 2025, wlth new NHS
partners In the East and West Midlands and Oxfordshlre. The new Llnbury Trust grant and Income from new
NHS partners provlde5 Akademl wlth a solld foundation for thls excltlng reglonal expansion of our work In
communlty health 5ettlngs, We wlll embark on a natlonal capaclty bulldlng and training pro8ramme to
increase our pool of experienced South Asian dance artists to deliver the work.

Reach Out & Reveal aims to support the physical, emotional and communication needs of children and young
people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder5 and SEND. Specialist Akademi prattitioner5 provide weekly dance
and movement sessions across partner schools, workin8 closely with school and teaching staff. The unique
movement vocabulary of South Asian dance provides participants wlth platforms for self-expression,
creativity and enlivened social Interactions, whlle fostering their core emotional development. The
programme champlons and evaluates new approaches, cultivating knowledge transfer opportunities
between teaching professionals and dance practitioners.
In 2024125, Reach Out & Reveal delivered 145 full school days of workshops across 5 SEND schools-
reachin8 between 24 and 57 puplls per session at each school depending on the needs and abllltles of the
pupils during any given day. This year saw the development of our work for secondary SEND settlngs for the
first time, resultlng in an expan51on of our reach in participant number and age ranges across our 5 partner

Thls year represented year 3 Iflnall of our Paul Hamlyn Foundation funded SEND research and artist
development running alongside the school workshop sessions. Via a comprehensive pro8ramme of training
and shadowing we have successfully built our pool of South Asian dance form artists now skilled and
experienced in providing meaningful movement intervention for SEND young people from 3 to 9 speclallst
SEND South Asian dance practitioners. This represents signif icant capacity building that benefits both our
organisation and the broader arts and health sector.

Our commissioned academic research by Claire Farmer Imlddlesex University) and Ashley McGill
IRoehampton University) is due to be published in autumn 2025 with the findings disseminated as part of a
SEND symposium organised by Akademi in early 2026.

Followlng a successful pilot project for Maitri Isanskrit for 'friend'l In 2023, and with continued funding from
John Lyon's Charity, Maitri Too was launched In sprlng 2024 to provide South Asian dance workshops to
puplls of Primary and Secondary schools in Brent with a focus on engaglng Engllsh as Addltlonal Language
IEALI students. Maitrl Too provides enhanced cultural engagement through South Asian dance workshops
culmlnatln8 In a bold, new and excltlng co-created outdoor dance piece for family audlences drawlng on the
themes of Pravaas - Akademi's show exploring climate migration. The storie5 behind Pravaas are emotionally
engaging, Illustratlng the importance and power of communlty, togetherness and hope, whlle highlighting
environmental issues that are relevant to all, but particularly the younger generation.
In sprlng 2024, Maltrl-Too worked wlth I secondary school and 2 prlmary schools In Brent, dellverlng 18
dance sesslons and 2 showcase performances for all school communities and families. Feedback from
funders, John Lyon's Charityi highlighted how they were particularly impressed with the engagement from
the schools and teachers wlthln the prolett- truly embeddlng dance and creatlvlty wlthln the schools,
agendas.
The success of MaltrS-Too has resulted In an excellent engagement model that 5UPPOrts the ambltlou5
collaboratlon of multiple schools and further embeds cllmate awareness work across our schools offer. After
third successful appllcation to the John Lyon's Charity, Akademl Is plannSng another 'Maitri' across 4
prlmary schools In Harrow in sprlng / summer 2025, wlth performances In June.

Commlssloned by Tower Hamlets Arts and Muslc Educatlon Servlce, Akademl delivered nlne weekly
workshops at Bigland Green Primary School for Year 5 pupSls. The project featured South Asian dance and
culture wlth a focus on co-creatlon, invltlng particlpant5 to brSng thelr own stories, ideas and histories Into
the creation proces5. Continuing Akademi's focus on diversity within schools, the project facilitated worklng
with EAL pupils of Bengall heritage and their familles with global songs and dance connected to the young
people of Tower Hamlet5 and thelr communities.The workshops culminated in a public sharing at Shoredltch
Town Hall in June 2024 to an audience of approximately 450 people.
Commissioned Performances & Community Events
Akademi has been commlssioned to curate and present a varlety of performances and workshops at key
community venues and public facing events. These events provide many different platforms to take South
Asian dance to the wider public and local communities, often with participatory workshops wherebv
communities can get involved and learn South Asian dance movements. These events also provide much
needed performance and freelance employment opportunities for our South Asian dance artists.
Commissioned performances and community events also diversify Akademi's income stream and raise our
public profile.

Research & Higher Education Development
In 2024125 Akademi has contlnued to develop our Research and Higher Education connections as one of our
focus areas. Our formal research project for Reach Out & Reveal Isee abovel Is continulng with the creation
of additional video documentation and research assets such a5 teacher packs, An article about the project
was featured in the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science members newsletter and the
researcher5 presented the project findings at the IADMS international conference in Italy in November 2024.
The research paper is due for publication autumn 2025.

Our application with the Centre for Dance Research at Coventry University for a PhD artist to explore South
Asian Dance as a Lens to Investigate Urgent Contemporary Narratlves was successful. This will create
tangible, long-term partnership with an internationally renowned University for its dance research and a peer
reviewed paper to demonstrate Akademi's impact and relay to the wider arts and HE settor. The doctorial
research project will begin in autumn 2025.
Akademi continued our support of research by South Aslan Dance Equlty {SADEI 5emlnars'. The Arts British
South Asian Dance Ignores" curated by Dr. Royona Mitra (Brunel University), Dr. Prarthana Purkayastha
(Royal Holloway Universityi UK) and Dr. Anusha Kedhar Iuniverslty of Callfornia, Riverside, USA). Akademi
worked wlth SADE by prornotlng and hostlng thelr weblnars and an In-person dlscusslons on South Asian
Dance and LGBTQ+ Identities, and on Indlgenous and Folk Cultures, The events were attended by a wlde
range of UK and International based South Asian artlsts and UK dance organisations.
Our Dance Well programme was featured as a case study in the book 'Arts for Health Danclng, by Noyale
Colln and Kathryn Stamp from C-Dare (Coventry University), launched at the Place London in January 2025.
Thls Is a testament to the powerful impact our programme has on the health and well-being of our
communitv.
Jalme Corp, a postgraduate student of Arts and Cultural Management at Klng's College London, Intervlewed
Akademi staff about Maitrl Too as part of her research project which will explore the role of performlng arts
organlsations In creatlng, dellverlng and evaluatln8 educatlonal programmes wlth prlmary schools. Akademl's
Artlstic Dlrector Is also on the advisory board of a research project funded by the Arts and Humanltles
Research Councll - Movlng Onllne: Ontolo8y and Ownershlp of Internet Dance. It Is led by Hetty Blades at
Coventry Universlty In partnershlp with One Dance UK and Sadler's Wells.

Instagram continues to be our most effective communication channel, whlle reach and engagement have
sl8nificantly declined on other platforms, partlcularly Facebook.
We have not taken some of the website data Into account for comparison as data from the old webslte was
skewed due to higher bots visit. The average session duration on the new webslte, however, has Increased by
127% which is a slgnlf Icant achlevement of it5 new content and design.
Touring activity has been Ilmited in 2024125, with the exception of Plastlc Drastlc Fantastic at Southbank
Centre and UCL East, and therefore a sl8nificant reductlon in content creation opportunitles,
For the next reporting period, we wlll shift from overall digital channel performance measurement to a focus
on Individual campaign/programme/prolect data. While this deviates from our ACE N PO agreed activity
reportlng, we belleve it will provide a more accurate assessment of digital channel effectiveness.

Suba was interviewed by journalist, Asad Ahmed, on BBC Radio London on 15 July about her views on
cultural 5ettor's call to support to the new Cultural Secretaryi Lisa Nandy, who is of South Asian heritage
herself.

Environmental Responsibility
Akademi recognlses the imperative for arts organisatlons to do their part to develop environmentally
sustalnable operations, acknowledgin8 the UK government's updated alms to reduce all greenhouse gas
emlsslons to net zero by 2050, compared with the previous target of at least 80% reductlon from 1990 levels

We also recognise that envlronmental sustainabillty is important from a buslness perspectlve as well as an
ethlcal one and we are commltted to mlnlmlsln8 the Impact of Akademi's programme and business practices
on the envlronment. Our envlronmental responsibllity Is emphaslzed through our creatlve productlon
themes whlch are almed at raislng awareness on Issues such as the impact of harmful materlals on the
envlronment and cllmate change and Its consequences for cllmate mlgratlon. We are commltted to usln8
sustalnable production prattices such as the re-use of props and costumes and take actlve steps to ensure
that these practlces are wrltten Into contracts wlth artlsts and partner settlng5,

To contlnue to embed the themes of envlronmental responslblllty In the creatlve output of our production
work (currently Pravaas and Pla5tlc Drastlc Fantastlcl to ralse awareness, educate and Instlll a sense of
practical positive action in audiences to tackle the environmental crlsls.
For example, Akademl took part In the 101 Newbury Green Forum early December and helpln8 to facllltate
the event. Thls reflects Akaderni's profile a5 a leader in creating sustainable outdoor work.
To ensure our produttlon processes are sustalnable, developlng green rlders and best practice policies In
sustainability for outdoor work and touring methodologies, Work this year has Included sharlng practlce
around creatlng sustalnable shows.
To follow our environment lrnpact pollcy to reduce carbon footprint in all areas of our office environment
and adminlstratlon - encouraglng our bulldlng manager to revlew and Improve bulldlng sustalnablllty.
To build environmental impact statements and considerations in contracts and discussions with our wider
freelance workforce - for example making provlslon, funds and time for publlc transport rather than car
travel.
To encourage sustainable activities within our staff and associated artists and to actively support endeavors
such as lending costume and equipment for reuse. We have an ongolng Inventory of costume avallable for
other artists to repurpose, borrow or hire for a small fee,

To mentor and support artists to explore their own practice in regard to environmental sustainability and
through themes of their work. Examples include mentoring artist Ham5hya Kumar on her R&D for an outdoor
piece about the sensitivity of ground nesting Birds to our human movements. Her vision Is of blending
Bharatanatyam and contemporary elements with topical narratives, especially around environment. Akademi
has ¢ommited to contribute in-kind through mentoring and marketing support total value of whlch will
amountto £1300.
Organisational Development
Akademi underwent a process of Trustee tenure audit and development throughout 2024. We bid farewell to
some longstandlng Trustees who had brilliantly gulded and supported the organi5ation through the last few
years, Includlng the challen8es of the pandemlc. Followlng the resignation of the Chalr, Kelth Khan, due to
new work commltments, Trustee Hannah Dye was appointed to the role of Chair and to help Iwith a Board
subgroup nominations committee) facilitate a recruitment drive for new trustees. A successful campaign and
recrultment pro¢ess resulted In the onboardlng of 4 new trustees throughout the year, alongside the phased
retlrement of 5 prevlous trustees (Akademl retalns the exlsting Treasurer and Secretary). The new Board of 7
provldes an experlenced and excltlng group, with dlverse skills and experlences comblnlng to form a dynamlc
governance team.
Future Development and Funding
Arts Councll England Natlonal Portfollo Organlsatlon fundlng contlnues wlth an excellent relatlonshlp wlth
our Arts Council England Relationship Manager. 2024125 is year two of four years as ACE has added an
addltlonal year to the 3-year fundlng cycle. Akademl's rlsk ratlng contlnue5 to be cla55ed as 'low'.
A second phase of our work to take South Aslan dance to schools in Brent & Harrow was successful with
the creation of 'Maltrl-Too', funded by the John Lyon's Foundation at £25,600.
Akademl secured £17K in hospital trust and commlssions income for Dance Well servlces durlng 2024125.
Llnbury Trust fundin8 for Dance Well Expanslon from autumn 2025 was successful £150K over 3 years.
BBC Chlldren In Need awarded a further 3 years of funding totalllng £42K for our work in SEND schools In
Camden, London, starting autumn 2025.
Sport England confirmed fundlng of £14,400 for our work In Camden care homes.

At 31st March 2025, The unrestricted reserves are £437,649,. £285,434 of these are designated ftjnds leaving
free reserves of £152,215.
The charity does not hold any of its reserves in investment5, Surplus cash is held In a 90-day notice savings
account and short-term bank dep051t accounts.

Akademi continues to exert tight control on expenditure and identified several areas of saving during the
year, making significant use of charity discounts.
Reserves pollcy
Akademi needs reserves to meet liabilities in the event of belng unable to secure funding, fattors beyond
Akademi's control such as the decision of a funder to cease funding, failure of a partner or8anisation or other
debtor.
Free reserves are defined as Income that becomes available to Akademl and is to be spent at the trustees,
discretion In furtherance of Akademi's objectlves but which is not yet spent, committed or desi8nated.
The reserves policy Is revlewed annually by the trustees, with the most recent revlew In October 2023. The
revlew Is managed by Akademi's Executlve Dlrector and takes into account projected cash flow forecasts and
a risk assessment.
Akademi review5 its reserves pollcy annually taking into account current operatlng costs and risks associated
wlth Income requlred to dellver our buslness plan oblectlves. Trustees have assessed that a reserves target
equlvalent to 6-9 months, core operatlng costs lapproximately £25,000 per monthl Is prudent In the current
flnanclal cllmate, and thls Is backed by a revlew of Income rlsks for 2024-25. The reserves target Is therefore
£150k- £200k.

Basis of preparation
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charitles:
Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance wlth

Expendlture
Recognition of
expenditure
Expenditure is recognlsed on an accruals basis. Expenditure includes any VAT which
cannot be f ully recovered, and is reported as part of the expenditure to which it
relates.
Expenditure on
These comprise the costs associated with attratting voluntary Income, fundraising

These comprise the costs incurred by the Charity in the delivery of its activities and

Trade and other credltors
Short term creditor5 are measured at the transattion price. Other credltors and provlslons are recognised
where the charity has a present obligatlon resulting from a past event that will probably result in the
transfer of funds to a third party and the amount due to settle the obligation can be measured or
estimated reliably. Creditors and provisions are normally recognised at their settlement amount after
allowing for any trade discounts due.

Pension costs
The charity operates a defined contribution plan for its employees. A defined contribution plan is a
pension plan under which the company pays fixed contributions into a separate entity. Once the
contributions have been paid the company has no further payments obligations. The contributions are
recognised as expenses when they f311 due. Amounts not paid are shown in accruals in the balance sheet.
The assets of the plan are held separately from the company In Independently administered funds.

expenditure at an estimate of the value to the charity,
