THE ARTHUR ANSON MEMORIAL TRUST LTD (A COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE) DIRECTORS, REPORT- FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2022 The directors present their rewrt and finanual statements for the year ended 31At December 2022. The accounts have been prepar&J in accordance with the accounting px)licies set out in note 1 to the accounts and comply with the charty's goveming document Ihe Companies Acl 20C6 and "Accounting and Reporting by Charities" Statement of Recommended Praclice applir2ble to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland {FRS 1021 {effective 1 January 20151. Objectives and activities The objectives of the Trust are the provision and maintenance of facilFties, amenf(ies and service5 for use by the inhabitsnts of the parish of Marcham and its neuhbourh(XNJ and the relief of persons residenl in the parish who are in need, hardship or distress (including making of grants to bodies who provide gocxjs, services or facilsties to them). There has teen no change in these during the year. The directors have paid due regard 10 9UIdan￿ issued by the Charity Commission in deciding what activrties the charity should undertake. A¢hi•v•ments and perfomiance In 2022 the Trust has concentrated on developing a financialty robust operating model and delivering on its charitable purposes which, following the reorganisation of the Trusys assets in 2019, are now primarily supporting the local community and in Pa￿cUlar the organisations. swates. clubs and groups that Servi￿ IL To encourage the local communrty to approach the Tn￿t wtth grant requests thatfall under is objectives, the Trust has refreshed its website, placed adverts in the Iccal community newsletter and contributed a number of articles to the same publication exhorting local bodies to apply for grants. By the end of 2022 the Trust had received a number of grant requests and was delighted to be able to approve rts first grants in over 20 years. Financial review The Trust's financral performance in 2022 built on the progress m￿e in 2021 with an operating surplus of income over expenditure of £19,826. The Tnjst also experienced a positNe cash flow in 2022 and, subject to the charitable grants it feels able to make, is very likely to continue to do so for the fr)re5eeable fijttjre. The Trust regulaty reviews tts investrment strat￿Y for both its restricted and unrestricted fvnds. Given the prevailing interest rate environment in the UK the Tnjst has sought to maximise the interest income on its cash holdings whilst at the same time building a long-temi investment wrtfolio for the sinking fvnd that it is building lo ensure that it can maintain and modemise its physical assets in the decades to co￿. In line with the wder market the Trust has experienced an 11% decline in the value of its investment fvnds but as these are funds held for the bng term the Trust expects similarand opposrte Cycl￿81 move￿ents overtime and does not see the recent decline as any cause for concem. In additton to the restricted funds, hekl in the fom of investments. of £114,776 the Trust also owns as part of its endowment a commercial nursery f￿lIlty conservatively valued at £600,000. the Anson Fiekl. which adjoins Barmw Close la private road owned by the TnJsl} and the new community facilities which were erected on land previousty owned by the Trust as part of the Trusfs succe5sfvI scheme {that completed in 2020) to restructure and refresh its assets and operating model. The income generated from this nursery is the main source of the Trusys incorre the directors have adopted what they consider lo be a suitabty prudent approach to rts use of this income to servbce its grant making opportunities in service of its charitable objedtves and rts need to build the sinking fvnd referred tr) previousty. It is the policy of the chanty that unrestricted fvnds which have not ￿en designated for a specific use should be maintained at a level at least equNaknt to betsveen srA and tsvelve months, antiClP8ted expendtture. The directors consider that reserves at this level will ensu￿ that, in the event of a significartt drop in funding. they will be able to continue the charity's current activrties while conSiderat￿n is given to ways in which additional fvnds may raised. This level of reserves has teen maintained throughout the year. The directors have assessed the major rtsks tr) which the charity is exF*)sed 2nd are sab'sfied that systems are in place to mitigate exposu￿ to the major nsks to its operating model. Plans for the future The directors are keen that the Trust becomes widely recognised and used as a source ofcommunty supporting grants and will 8¢ty"vety seek oui opporbjnities and contt.nue to market the Tnjst accordingty.
