Introduction and welcome

GR opened the meeting at 19.09 and thanked everyone for attending.

GR acknowledged this was the last meeting of the current chair of the PTA who would leaving her role after 11 years on the PTA. GR stated that a school cup had been launched called the “Kelly Hood Cup” in her honour and it the first cup named after a woman and a member of the PTA.

GR acknowledged that KH had raised £100,000’s in her role as Chair of the PTA and praised the drive and enthusiasm KH had showed over the years. GR stated how important the relationships between, school, parents and the PTA is and how successful it can be when it is working.

KH was presented with some tokens of appreciation in recognition of her time given to the school.

Presentation from Combined Cadet Force and T Level student

Lance Corporal Stubbs gave a presentation on the combined cadet force between Kennet school and Bradfield college. He described the skills he has developed since being part of the programme such as leadership, teaching and military skills. He described how he has met new people and made new friends. He said how the programme is not just for people looking to join the forces but benefits all looking to develop as individuals.

Cadet Logan gave a presentation on his experience of the programme. He shared how in his first group he learnt how to apply camouflage and then undertook an exercise where he had to remain undercover in long grass and make his way back to base. He then talked about his second session and completing an obstacle course and how it has strengthened his team building abilities.

Grace – a current year 12, gave a presentation on T Levels.

Grace is currently studying her Health T level. The school currently provide 2 T levels but will be looking to add a further 2. She detailed that the exams take part in year 1 and the scheme includes 45 days of work experience which is assessed at the end.

She stated it is equivalent to 3 A levels and gives “real life” experience. The course does enable you to have UCAs points and therefore can lead onto university.

There is a new building currently underway to house T level learning and the hope is that it will be completed by September 2024.

Minutes from last meeting

The minutes of the meeting held on Wednesday 21st September 2022 were agreed and signed as a true reflection by all present.

Report from the Committee for 2022 - 2023 by Kelly Hood

KH gave an account of the last year and stated that she had been part of the PTA for 11 years, having been a pupil at the school she reflected how many opportunities the school had given her and continues to give to it pupils.

KH stated how proud she is on the legacy she leaves behind and how excited she is to see what the future brings for the school and the PTA. KH stated that she joined the PTA for 3 reasons:

KH stated over her time with the PTA there have been a number of improvements made with the money raised, inclusive of:

KH stated when the quiz first started there were 15 teams this has now grown to almost 50 teams.

KH leaves the PTA on a record-breaking year, having raised the largest sum ever for the school.

KH ended by stating she is thankful for the 11 years, all the fun and friendships she has made.

Accounts for 2021- 2022 by Joanne Lyles:

JL ran through each event listing the profit and year on year profit growth for each event.

JL stated the total income for the year was £41,815.44, total expenditure was £10,746 giving a total for funds raised of £31,069.44.

JL stated this was 47% up on the previous year.

JL stated that current bank charges are 1.6% of all cash deposited and going forward encouraged the new committee to continue to try and avoid cash sales and to use the SUM up machine.

GR stated that the funds raised will be put towards new seating in the hall, new benches around the site and some rain coverage.

Election of Committee and Trustees 2023- 2024

KH read out the nominations for the officer and trustee positions. Each person was nominated and seconded.
