Spalding Hospice Foundation

Trustee's Report 2023

We were founded in 2002 with a dream of establishing Hospice care in the South Holland District, after several years of fundraising we were able to support the opening of a four bedded ward in our newly built local hospital, the Johnson Community Hospital.

We opened in 2010 and to this day continue our mission of providing 'Loving Local Care' in the heart of the Town of Spalding.

We remain a small but hardworking Committee totally committed to supporting the Tulip Suite which is the name of our Ward, all our four rooms being named after red tulips grown in the area in the past.

2013 is the year when finally our finances start to get back to pre-Covid levels. We have had some successful events and received some generous donations. Many of our donations come from Family and friends in thanks for the care given to their loved one.

Funeral collection contributions are also gratefully received, now normal services are again being held these have helped with our income this year.

Our four beds are usually full and offer a caring and homely place in the heart of South Holland for those we love when they reach the final stage of their lives.

We received a donation from a local business which paid for new furnishings for the balcony off the Ward which families like to use to take a break at this often difficult time.

We used some of our funds to buy two reclining wheel chairs to use to take patients out there to enjoy the lovely view of the river and some fresh air. These have all been much appreciated.

We purchased some new bedding, a sofa bed, fridge and china for the overnight room which families use so they are close to their family member overnight.

Our major purchases from our funds have been two new beds and two reclining chairs for patient's rooms and four new wardrobes with drawers and a locking cupboard and new privacy curtains for the rooms.

Going forward into 2024 we are looking to do some redecoration and updating of the ensuite bathroom facilities in our four rooms.
