## CHAIRPERSONS REPORT 2022

This period was far more settled than the previous 2 years. Things began to move towards stability, although it took longer for some groups to fill up as before. We had a few new groups form i.e. Ju-Jitsu, Tots football, Boxing Junior/senior, Self Defence. 5 staff and volunteers undertook a Level One Boxing coaching course, which also involved an intense First aid course and safeguarding. They all passed and attained the qualification. We purchased a De Fib machine as we now have four people trained to use the equipment, we also updated our first aid box. The boxing sessions are going really well and we have registered with Box England to become an ABA – good progress in this field. Whilst starting these new groups we have retained most of the old groups i.e. The Art Group, Muay Thai, Thai Chi, Women’s Boxing, Women’s Circuit, NEET school, Mencap, The Lunch Club and the two weekend schools. M.Y.A hire the classroom for two days a week.

## STAFF & VOLUNTEERS

We took advantage of the Gov scheme KICKSTART for young people and took on Jack Jones on a 25-hr contract for 6 months. When this period ended, we were able to offer Jack a permanent position of 16 hrs per week, Therefore increasing our staff rota to three part time workers. We have maintained our volunteers and increased them by three adults and four junior volunteers.

## KIDS CLUB

With the provision of funding from H.A.F we have been able to provide Kids camp at half term, Easter and the 6 weeks summer holidays. We exceeded 100 children attending over the summer. ( an increase of 83-100) This summer camp was a huge success, we had a full team of staff and volunteers and we recruited 4 junior volunteers, all local teenagers ( 2 boys & 2 girls) who were a great help. We provided a hot meal everyday and lots of activities, sports and arts and crafts it was a great success. On the final day we had a party with Lee providing a disco and Nicola provided face painting. It was hard work as the camp took place during the Heatwave we had to make sure the children took regular time outs with plenty of drinks, ice lollies and ice pops, but we managed.

We have upgraded the garden project- the greenhouse has had all new panels replaced and been weather proofed. Clare produced some organic veg i.e potatoes, onions, tomatoes, peppers which were used in the food provided to the lunch club and kids camp. We received a grant from Green Spaces to upgrade the garden project.

## FUTURE PLANS

I am in the process of putting together a bid for the back garden – I have two firms putting together costings ( which I will progress further) this, alongside the formation of an Amateur Boxing club are my two main focusses for the coming year. We desperately need an outdoor space as we have up to 150 children attending the weekend schools alongside the kids that attend our school camps. All these children need to be able to play outdoors in safety. The overgrown space at the back of the building is not only an eye sore for neighbours, it is a complete waste of space.

## REP/MAIN

We have had a few major jobs done in the building. New lights (energy saving) fitted in the Boxing Gym, new boiler (funded by Eleanor Rathbone Charity) The sports hall has been painted and plaster repairs, as have the two top offices/classrooms. We replace all of the tables in the dining room. Green spaces gave us a £3,000 Grant which helped us replace the panels in the greenhouse and made it weather proof. As the garden project was 10yrs old we also replaced all the planters with new timber and soil and manure this has improved the overall look of the front of the building.

## CONCLUSION

At the time of preparing this report we are faced with increases in gas/electric The Gov have indicated that they will assist Charities to cope with this hike in prices, but at the time of writing we are still not sure what help this will be, undoubtably we are facing higher bills. The belve is a large space to heat and maintain. I will look towards local charities to see if they can assist. We increased charges but in a very limited way, as we are fully aware that the whole of society is struggling to keep up with the increased costs across the board.

## FINANCIALLY

So far we are quite comfortable, Thanks to the support we have received from a variety of sources ( Liverpool City Council inc) I have attached a list of all grants received. We really appreciate the support as it allows us to continue to offer a variety of classes and
