## **Report of the Trustees/Directors for the Period Ended 30th November 2021**
The Trustees/Directors present their report and the financial statements for the period 1st December 2020 to 30th November 2021. These accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Memorandum and Articles, Companies Act 1985, the Charities Act 1993 and the Charities SORP 2000.
## _Governing Documents/Organisation Structure_
The charity's governing documents are the Memorandum and Articles of Association (as revised September 2004). The policy and general management of the affairs of the Association, are directed by a Management Committee which must meet at least four times a year. Full details of its composition can be found in the "Articles". Trustees are elected at the AGM. They must retire annually but will be eligible to be appointed again, and are ex-officio members of the Management Committee and all other committees.
## _Principal activities_
The charity's principal activity during the year is to advance education and promote recreation and leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life of the inhabitants of Blackhall Mill and its neighbourhood.
## _Review of Activities_
The operation of the community centre has been severely restricted by the lockdowns necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic. We are grateful to have received business support grants via Gateshead Council to cover our running costs during the times when we have been unable to hire out the building.
The building was in use to operate a parent and toddler group as allowed in the exceptions for the mental health and socialisation of parents and pre-school children. We did not derive any income from this.
We sponsored a community lantern project , Heart of Hope, which was undertaken with sixty paper lantern making kits being distributed to village residents. The completed lanterns were returned and a light installation was created inside the community centre, which was illuminated every evening for a week.
We were able to host the annual Summer Fair and the event was well received. To generate some community cohesion after the long periods of social isolation during the lockdowns we committed significant amounts to hire childrens entertainment (a bubbleologist and a circus skills workshop) and professional bands. Much care was taken in the planning and execution of the event to ensure that all public health restrictions were observed.
The building was re-opened for use in September but it will take a while for groups to build back up to their previous levels of usage. We will undertake an awareness campaign to promote use by groups and for private events.
The Association has continued to support and host the Derwent Valley Car Club. Through their involvement in the SOSCI project the club has leased two additional cars, which means we are running a fleet of three cars, two of which are intended to be deployed at other locations in the Derwent Valley. Due to issues with getting the additional charge points installed all three cars have been based in Blackhall Mill but it is hoped that this will soon be resolved.
