STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees sets our future aims and priorities focusing on strategic planning and governance and also evaluates our performance and progress in our work to alleviate poverty and suffering.

The Board of Trustees appraises the Senior Management Team and can make appointments to it as well as dismissals. The Board of Trustees also make sure that we satisfy the regulatory requirements on us as a charity and works with key stakeholders.

Recruiting and Appointing Trustees

All our trustees are volunteer, chosen because they all have the diverse range of skills, knowledge and experience that we need to respond to the challenges of today. Stakeholders and partners may nominate trustees and sometimes we will make a personal approach to potential candidates.

Governing document

Bismillah Aid refers to the charity incorporated organisation with a governing document known as CIO constitution by Registration originally adopted on 10 December 2003 as amended 26 July 2004.

Responsibilities of Trustees

The annual report and financial statements are prepared according to the relevant law and approved by the trustees.

The trustees keep adequate accounting records and they show and explain our transactions. The records also disclose our financial position with reasonable accuracy at any time and enable trustees to ensure that the financial statements comply with Charity Commission Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) 2015.

Grant Making Policies

We provide grants to projects if the request meets our charitable objectives and criteria. Project grant making is managed according to a designated process, which is documented in our Operational Risk-Management Framework. We aim to treat all grant applications professionally, equally and fairly. We make the final decision as to eligibility to receive a grant, at our discretion.

Public Benefit

We develop strategic plans to make certain that we provide maximum public benefit and achieve our strategic objectives, which fall under purposes defined by the Charity Act 2006.

OBJECTIVES AND STRATEGIC ACTIVITIES FOR THE BENEFIT

The objects of the charity are set below:

To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the United Kingdom as well as the rest of the world without distinction of sex, or of political, religious or other opinions by associating with the local authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and training and to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objects of improving the quality of life for the said inhabitants and also by relieving poverty and preserve and project good health where necessary to secure the establishment of the community centre and to maintain and manage or to corporate with the statutory organisations, agencies and trusts in the maintenance of our present centre for activities promoted by Bismillah Aid, in furtherance of the above objectives. To promote any charitable purpose for the benefit of the public as the trustees in their absolute discretion think fit.

Collaboration with Hope Tours

During the catastrophic earthquake that occurred in March causing thousands of people from Turkey lost their lives, family, friends, shelter, and food. The team at bismillah aid decided to push forward and help the vulnerable people in Turkey in dark times. With the support of the local community Bismillah aid gathered donations and through Hope tours we were able to provide and support Turkey in the catastrophic weeks. A number of food packages, clothing items, and shelters were distributed.

British Imam Course

From giving our names when we are born, to saying the final rights over our bodies at our Janazah (funeral), our Imams are an essential part of every milestone of our lives. As the leader of the community, he is not only tasked with leading the 5 daily prayers, but is responsible for introducing our children to Islam, advising our youth about life’s major decisions, patching up broken marriages, feeding the hungry, guiding the sinner to find absolution, giving hope to the hopeless: all with the aim of reconnecting everyone back to their Lord.

In 2023, The British imam course built up confidence and develop their speaking skills so that they may stand forward in front of the community and spread the word of Islam. They now understand the role of leadership that an imam holds whilst also remembering the knowledge of religious, societal, and British values.

Additionally, Bismillah aid hosted a one-week master course which featured a qualified teacher from abroad speaking about how important zakat (charity) is in Islam. Furthermore, modern day leadership qualities were discussed in the light of the seerah (life) of the prophet. so that once they step out into the open world, they know how to approach and respectfully deliver the message pf Islam as a young imam.

Ramadhan Food Packages

Ramadan is a holy month that comes around one year. It is a month of giving and showing gratitude where Muslims voluntarily abstain from food during the sacred month of Ramadan. Our mission and aim of this project was to serve meals to a variety of local individuals of various cultures, faiths, and backgrounds. It was with the purposeful aim of equality and serving individuals within and outside of

the Islamic faith. In an effort to share and assist the local people of the community, Bismillah Aid once again prepared food packages during breaking fast.

Peace Conference

As the name suggests, the peace conference was held to promote that Islam is a religion of love and peace. It is important that we continue to host this conference as a reminder about what Islam is and what is the purpose of a Muslim in this world. With great success in the previous year and several positive feedback from the community in 2023 we decided to host the peace conference to help promote the true message of Islam. Many attendees were present from youth, teenagers, adults and elderly amongst different cultures, races and religions were present. It is important to promote Islam as a versatile religion and to openly incorporate other cultures and backgrounds to create a cohesive community.

Peace conference consisted of various naats being recited, Quranic words from the holy Quran (tilawat) as well as Islamic talks by a variety of scholars. In the end, food was distributed alongside Qawalli.

Jamia Al Karam

The team at Bismillah Aid decided to further their efforts in providing Islamic knowledge for the future generation through Islamic sponsorship and imam training provided at the esteem Jamia AlKaram. Through these educational initiatives, Bismillah Aid alongside Jamia Al Karam will produce positive results for the British Muslim community. Bismillah Aid strives to acquire unique place in the hearts and minds of the British Muslim and numerous communities throughout the country.

Qurbani Project

Qurbani (Udhiya) is not only a religious duty on Muslims ordained by Allah and practiced by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions, but it is also a wonderful opportunity for Muslims to help their fellow humans who are suffering from abject poverty around the world.

We would like to thank all the generous donors of Bismillah Aid for placing their trust in us to implement their Qurbani this year. We were able to able to carry out the qurbani project through Quba Trust. As a result, just like every year, we were able to feed thousands of vulnerable families around the world on this blessed occasion. Bringing happiness and smiles to the faces of widows, struggling to raise their children, old, aged people with disabilities facing hunger and children affected by disasters and wars. We pray Allah SWT rewards you abundantly for your generous donations.

Financial Review

The charity received sum of £39,038 in donations from various sources.

The charity does not have any reserve policy.

The funds are in deficit by £558 at the balance sheet.
