STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees sets our future aims and priorities focusing on strategic planning and governance and also evaluates our performance and progress in our work to alleviate poverty and suffering.

The Board of Trustees appraises the Senior Management Team and can make appointments to it as well as dismissals. The Board of Trustees also make sure that we satisfy the regulatory requirements on us as a charity and works with key stakeholders.

Recruiting and Appointing Trustees

All our trustees are volunteer, chosen because they all have the diverse range of skills, knowledge and experience that we need to respond to the challenges of today. Stakeholders and partners may nominate trustees and sometimes we will make a personal approach to potential candidates.

Governing document

Bismillah Aid refers to the charity incorporated organisation with a governing document known as CIO constitution by Registration originally adopted on 10 December 2003 as amended 26 July 2004.

Responsibilities of Trustees

The annual report and financial statements are prepared according to the relevant law and approved by the trustees.

The trustees keep adequate accounting records, and they show and explain our transactions. The records also disclose our financial position with reasonable accuracy at any time and enable trustees to ensure that the financial statements comply with Charity Commission Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) 2015.

Grant Making Policies

We provide grants to projects if the request meets our charitable objectives and criteria. Project grant making is managed according to a designated process, which is documented in our Operational Risk-Management Framework. We aim to treat all grant applications professionally, equally and fairly. We make the final decision as to eligibility to receive a grant, at our discretion.

Public Benefit

We develop strategic plans to make certain that we provide maximum public benefit and achieve our strategic objectives, which fall under purposes defined by the Charity Act 2006.

OBJECTIVES AND STRATEGIC ACTIVITIES FOR THE BENEFIT

The objects of the charity are set below:

To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the United Kingdom as well as the rest of the world without distinction of sex, or of political, religious or other opinions by associating with the local authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and training and to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objects of improving the quality of life for the said inhabitants and also by relieving poverty and preserve and project good health where necessary to secure the establishment of the community centre and to maintain and manage or to corporate with the statutory organisations, agencies and trusts in the maintenance of our present centre for activities promoted by Bismillah Aid, in furtherance of the above objectives. To promote any charitable purpose for the benefit of the public as the trustees in their absolute discretion think fit.

To promote health: safe water, clean hands, and healthy bodies. Dirty water equates to sickness, sickness is time lost, this is reduced, and people can get back to the work of lifting themselves out of poverty.

To relieve hunger: access to water leads to food security. With less crop loss, hunger is reduced. Families can feed themselves, reducing living costs.

To relieve poverty: water can break the cycle of poverty. The communities we serve are ready to grow, they grow through our help and guidance.

To provide for wherever there is the most need: helping the neediest in the quickest time possible, relieving one struggle of many.

This year, the Bismillah Aid achieved success in the following projects:

Qurbani Project

Qurbani (Udhiya) is not only a religious duty on Muslims ordained by Allah and practiced by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions, but it is also a wonderful opportunity for Muslims to help their fellow humans who are suffering from abject poverty around the world.

We would like to thank all the generous donors of Bismillah Aid for placing their trust in us to implement their Qurbani this year. We were able to able to carry out the qurbani project through Quba Trust. As a result, just like every year, we were able to feed thousands of vulnerable families around the world on this blessed occasion. Bringing happiness and smiles to the faces of widows struggling to raise their children, old, aged people with disabilities facing hunger and children affected by disasters and wars. We pray Allah SWT rewards you abundantly for your generous donations.

British Imam Course

From giving our names when we are born, to saying the final rights over our bodies at our Janazah (funeral), our Imams are an essential part of every milestone of our lives. As the leader of the community, he is not only tasked with leading the 5 daily prayers, but is responsible for introducing ur children to Islam, advising our youth about life’s major decisions, patching up broken marriages, feeding the hungry, guiding the sinner to find absolution, giving hope to the hopeless: all with the aim of reconnecting everyone back to their Lord.

In 2019, Bismillah Aid embarked on a subsidiary project of British Imam, with the aim of supporting our youth, by providing Imams with knowledge of religious, societal, and British values.

A keen interest was expressed from both males and females to enrol on this course. It was decided that Bismillah Aid will allocate funds to hire qualified and experienced teachers with advanced teaching methods for In-person and online classes so the students can gain valuable knowledge and progress rapidly. Thanks to allocated teachers’ commitment and hard work the Course continued, and tremendous progression was made over the year.

In 2020, we continued the British Imam Course. Even though, it was a difficult year, and we were disrupted by COVID-19, the classes resumed on an online platform. This project is and was the main focal point project of Bismillah Aid throughout the year and we have achieved progression with our hard work and efforts.

In 2021, Classes are still resuming via online. Our young learners are excelling in their studies and are a year closer to becoming a leader to help preach, teach, spread the word of Islam and guiding the community to the straight path. A keen interest is continuing to grow as the young imams go furthermore in their knowledge of religious, societal, and British values.

Caring for Carers

It is extremely important to acknowledge people who are struggling during lockdown. Some lost their jobs, some lost their loved ones, and some are struggling to pay for their daily expenses. Merging all of this is will most definitely affect the mental health of a pupil. This is when Bismillah aid decided to act and introduce this course for women, men and young youth on how to fight against these difficulties.

COVID Hot Meals ( ‘Langr – e – Abdalliyah’ 20 days consecutive Easter Meal Project)

COVID-19 reached its peak in 2020, when the first lockdown took place. At the time, we distributed 150 meals throughout Alum Rock, Birmingham, and in 2021, Bismillah Aid distributed meals on Easter to support the locals of all backgrounds and cultures. The purpose of this project was to be present for the local community during the difficult time of Covid-19 second lockdown. A predicament in which people still relied on furlough. We were able to support, support, and help the community and vulnerable by providing them with hot food packs, and after each delivery, we saw a joyful smile on the faces of local people.

COVID Hot Meals ‘Langr – e – Abdalliyah’ 30 days consecutive Ramadhan Iftari Meal Project

We sent out more than 300 meals before the time of iftar (sunset meal) in 2021, when Muslims voluntarily abstain from food during the sacred month of Ramadan. Our mission was to serve meals to a variety of local individuals of various cultures, faiths, and backgrounds. It was with a purposeful aim of equality and serving individuals within and outside of the Islamic faith. As a result, Bismillah Aid was welcomed with joy, praise, and prayers.

Jamia Al Karam

Shaykh Muhammad Imdad – founder principal of Jamia al-Karam said: “Our elders planted date palms and we ate their fruits. If today we do not plant these date palms, from where will our coming generations eat?” The team at Bismillah Aid decided to further their efforts in providing Islamic knowledge for the future generation through Islamic sponsorship and imam training provided at the esteem Jamia Al-Karam. Through these educational initiatives, Bismillah Aid alongside Jamia AlKaram will produce positive results for the British Muslim community. Bismillah Aid strives to acquire unique place in the hearts and minds of the British Muslim and numerous communities throughout the country.

Peace Conference

This peace conference was organized by Bismillah in order to spread the message of Islam and guide participants toward the right path. As part of the conference, various naats were recited, Quranic words were recited (tilawat), and there were Islamic talks by a variety of scholars. Finally, food was distributed.

As part of this project, the local community was uniting as one and reminded of the importance of Islam in our lives. Furthermore, we were reminded of how Muslims can develop themselves. It is important to promote Islam as a versatile religion and to openly incorporate other cultures and backgrounds to create a cohesive community.

Working with Quba Trust

Our goal was to serve meal packages to homeless and less fortunate people in several different cities in the UK in 2021 as part of our partnership with Quba Trust. The goal was to provide packages to cities such as Leicester, Luton, London and others. Bringing joy and smiles to the faces of widows struggling to raise their children, old, aging people with disabilities facing hunger. Bismillah Aid received positive feedback from the different communities, making it a success.

Zakat

Our Charities aim and vision is to make world free from poverty based on the principles of the Holy Prophet. In 2021, with the support of all the donors we were able to further support the less fortunate. We were able to provide safe water, clean hands, and healthy bodies. Dirty water equates to sickness, sickness is time lost, this is reduced, and people can get back to the work of lifting themselves out of poverty. We were also able to further provide children education so, when children are free from the task of gathering water, they return to class to educate themselves which soon they will be able to utilize this education to earn and get out of poverty.

Financial Review

The charity received sum of £ 54,155 in donations from various sources.

The charity does not have any reserve policy.

No funds are in deficit at the balance sheet.

The funds are in surplus by £208 at the balance sheet.

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records.
