Status

JUMP Children’s Charity was constituted on the 1[st] March 2004 and registered as a charity on 14[th] August 2004. This reporting year sees JUMP move into the 20[th] year of operation and the Trustees and staff and volunteers are extremely proud of our services and support for the children and families we support. We appreciate our supporters and funders without whom we could not have achieved the longevity and development within the charity.

The background to JUMP and how we deliver public benefit

JUMP was inspired by the short life of Jacob Hawthorn from Warrington, who lived to the age of three with Congenital Muscular Dystrophy. Following his passing, Jacob’s family found huge comfort in the memories they had created through photography and video; and as such, JUMP was founded in 2004

JUMP is a registered Children's Charity who deliver a unique complementary service to families with children with life limiting and terminal illnesses, by arranging professional photography to capture everlasting memories, which are presented in beautiful personal Memory Books and Film. We focus on capturing memories that matter most and are of special occasions or favourite things and are important to the child and their family

Creating memories with JUMP removes a child with a life limiting illness, from the day to day and often isolated routine of their challenging lives. Shifting focus from treatment, to creating strong relationships with family and peers. Memory making is focused on smiles, it’s about celebrating moments with people that matter most.

Our service supports children in most local authority areas in the North West of England and North Wales

Objectives

The Charity’s objects have been amended in recent years to reflect the growing areas of work that we are undertaking to develop a more sustainable model of support for children and families It was agreed by the Board of Trustees that we would incorporate these activities into our objectives to be developed in consultation with the children and families whom we support. A program of bi monthly events have taken place during this reporting period managed by our Community Development Manager. This is the first employed role for JUMP Children’s Charity that has been supported by funding from the Steve Morgan Foundation and Cheshire Community Foundation

Review of developments, activities, and achievements

Our Services

Our Community Development Managers role has facilitated the development of an online Community that provides access for children and their families to support and social connections.

During this Annual Reporting Year these activities have continued to thrive and the bi-monthly events are now established with 2 groups of children and parents attending the events on each planned day

We have delivered 68 individual memory photo shoots and exceeded our target for events with an additional 2 events in collaboration with another charity that benefitted children that meet JUMP’s criteria

Re-branding

During this reporting period JUMP have been supported by Cheshire Connect to design and develop a new logo and branding. This has been a successful transition and is now present on all social media and promotional information. The new logo is representative of the emphasis on capturing memories by using an image of a camera and the rainbow represents special times to be cherished

Website

Our website has been re-designed by ANDigital as a complimentary service to JUMP and we are extremely grateful for this very positive development of our online resources

Fundraising

Our work has been supported by The Steve Morgan Foundation who have continued to fund our Community Development Managers role for the final year of funding

We have successfully applied for smaller grants and have been supported by individual and company donors/donations that have maintained our services.

Our Trustees have recognized the importance of having a paid member of staff , our community development manager and have agreed to continue to support this role through unrestricted funding for as long as possible

Plans for the future

We will sustain our photography services and our family memorable days and will offer more capacity where this can be afforded

We will continue to increase the number of children we provide our services for if funding is raised and we will offer much closer support and communication to engage with the children and their families to enable them to take a part in our Family Memory days and benefit from our partnerships with other charities.

We will explore other opportunities for providing access to a wider range of life experiences for the children and families we support

We aim to expand the numbers of volunteers and ensure that they are valued and supported

Our baby Isaac had a very difficult start in life, he was only discharged from hopsital a few days before his first birthday. As a family we had missed on on many firsts and Isaac has complex medical needs that means one size fits all photoshoots were too daunting. Jump made sure we didnt miss out on celebrating Isaac's first birthday and capturing that moment. The photographs are beautiful, more than pictures they have captured moments, they quickly understood Isaac's needs and how to make him smile and laugh, he had the most enjoyable day and so did we and we have a lovely photo book we will cherish for ever. Thank you Jump!

I S's Mum:

Jump have supported us since Ivy was 6 months old where we had a memorable photo shoot. They made us feel welcome from day one and made Ivy feel happy and content. We have been lucky to be invited to the special memory days which both children love and we like that Ivy’s brother can get involved as well. Jump has become like a family and all the volunteers and staff take a real interest in the children and how they are doing.

J's Mum:

Forever grateful for Kate coming and taking photos for us at Royal Oldham hospital. Eight years on and I still cherish the photos that we have, without these we wouldn’t have any professional photos of our son Jimmy. I particularly love the photos of us finally getting to have a cuddle with him. These photos are absolutely priceless.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above
charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/03/2021.
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the
accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011
(“the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
