physical. physiological. and psycholog￿31. Our Coun$ellors. WeE￿ing Therapi5t5 and Play Therapist are all
qualified and 8AcP￿PT registered or registered by the apPrOp¥￿te pn)fessional body.

Move of premises
In 2023 Ihe Trustees had several swjnfficantL￿ks to focus on and a¢h￿ve during the year. A move of p￿rnIses
had been part of the Boar(I discussions during 2022r23 wiéh plans to rethale the earty part of 2024. During
2023 all aspects of mo￿n9 premises were addressed by the Board of Trustees including the funding and
financing of Ihis. A suitable prcpety was found during 2023. and a refurbishment of the premises look place.

Adult support
We provided SUPFQrt lo 268 8dutts through our counselling arKI well-being se￿￿$ in 2023. The death of a
child brings wrth il a grief that is Ifaumalic. c￿p1¢X and long lasting. The grief experienced by bereaved
parents is profound and debilitating and it impacts on every aspect of their daily INes. All asp8ds of their
emotional and physKal health are compr(%nised. and our holist￿ bereavement support is essential as il
address￿ their profouThJ and unique grief. Resear¢h.has shu*n thal for bereaved parents it can lake up lo 8
years before they begin to cope wilh the de*h of ￿1r chibj. We also know that unresofved griel can have a
negative impact on physical armd menta health. Our rde is to support parents in rebuikling t￿1r k'ves and
having hope for the future.
Chlldren and Young Peop
We supported 630 chiklren and young people in 2023 through our ¢ounselling and play therapy work. Due to
the traumatic nalure of the bereavements experien￿ by the ¢hikJren and young people we 5UPPOrt it is
essential they receNe the best possible pr¢)fessional care. We have a welkdeveloped and evidenced approach
lo asse$smenl and service proviS￿n to support chikjren and young pwbe as they kn lrfe wrthoul a parent.

Research Shows that fftaved children and young pec¥>le have poor outcomes rf they are not supported
appropriate￿. 8ereavemenl at an earty age can have a devasLiting imp&t on chIld￿n which can last intf) their

to prevent long temi problems early inleNention is wtal. We provide bespoke bereavement ¢are and monrtor
progress and oulcrmes wrth the bereaved children and young people we support. Pwding the right support
in a timety way for bereaved ehiklren and young pe¢¥*le means posrtive lrfe OLrtcomes can be ach*ved.

tslk openty about theirgrief. In 2023 we had an increase in ￿qUes￿enquires for support immediatety following
a death. This has increased the number of bereaved pecple we offer an earty ad¥l¢el•nquiry seNlce to.
Some of the concems presented are often around h¢Thf to tell a chik4 about the death of a loved one. We are
8150 able lo signpost lo other organisations rf the persons $rtu*￿n does noi I￿t our crr¢eria or rf there are
other urgent issues not directty related to the bereavement.
Through grant fvn(*ng we were able to provwje a specialist Play Therapy sepKe whith f(Kuses on the grief
ol young children. Often young children are not able lo express Ihetr feelings through words alone. Play
Therapy helps children understsnd and express Ihe vaiicmjs feelings and reacltons they have as a direct result
of their bereavement. This speeialisl seThice srts alongsNJe the woth of our Chiklren's Counsellors who also

any of the parents we see are grieving theMSe￿e$ as well as suppcrfting their chiklren. One of our projects
is Parents Supportlng Grievlng Children IPSGCI. Parents often need reassurance th* their child is
splaying the usual and common swns of griel. Parents wll often have a lot of prnctical concems and
pressurès that come as a direct resum of their bereavÈt￿t. Our approach of offering individual support to the
parent and the ehildren} at the same time ha5 proven to be very posrtNely reeeTved and responded to. 11 often

Days arKI Yoga groups
During 2023 we ¢￿tinued to develop and extend our Group Tmork wh￿h wowdes aldits.onal support by
bringing bereaved p80ple together. Each part of our service has been ablelo extend the groupwork offer. The
Tnjslees discussions regarding a m¢)ve of premi5e$ included the devebpmenl of our Se￿￿e delwery strategy
to extend our group work offer. Plans were put in place to increase ￿r group work to ensure we ￿￿Id offer a
variety of therapeutic. social and wellbeing groups. These groups have been very well receNed by lh&
bereaved children. young pecyle and we support. lthilst the experience and expression of grief is very
individual bwng wrth people In a similar situab.on can be very hdpfvl. Added to our existin9 groups were a
monlhty Yoga group and a therapeut￿ group for Young Men Be￿aVed thffjugh Tfauma.
Our annual Remèmbrance Time offets bereaved pa￿Trts and their relatives a chanceto remembertheir loved
one al Christmas- one ofthe most drfficutt tynes ofye8r fof them. This servv- %thi¢h has taken place annualfy
lor 31years - is ahvays attended by over 300 people. Vle also have a digital space where families can create
tribute pages and Sha￿ memories of their k)ved one.

A key strength for Edward's TNSI is our di￿Se lunding base arml we ￿re also very fortunate lo benefrt fr¢Nn
legacies in 2023. 11 has been a challenging year wrth regard to rntsing funds and our Fundraising Team have
worked hard lo inCr&￿e our donor base. Sponsored Events aftd Chal*s have proved to be popular and
have exlended our ￿8¢h and profile. The cost4)f-INing crisis has impacted on indNidual donations although
we continue to have Str¢Y￿ supwt in a variety of ways from prNate indNiduals. We are Very gralelul to
Charrtable Tfusts for the grants we have recek¥ed which diredly help to fvnd tyjr service delivery.
In 2023 we were able to engage in a Strategic Revi8w of Fundraising and InccAne Gengr*in wfth the hglp ol
an extemal consultation process. Thts wew has infomied our fvrKlwsing stralegy for the next 3years with
the awn of strengthening our finanekxl POSbtKJn.

sponsorship. We have 87 rtgular donors who give via a Standing onler or dired debit. Large or small
donations given regularty add a level of Slabdty lo our income base. We keep regular donors informed of our
activiti95 at regular points throughout the year and through our Krte magazine.

We have been fulty complianl wrih the Fundraising Regutatofs code of prath.ce throughout 2023.
received no complaints regarding our fundraising adNitw this year. We ensure that these activrtbes are
sensitive and reasonable and do nol contact our donors or potent￿1 donors lo ask for money directty. Instead,
we promote new sponsorshw opportunities through general campaigns, not tar9eled al individuals.
Throughout the year we have been rewwng ourfvndraising activities to ensure y￿ are GDPR compliant.

undertaken lo further our ¢haritab18 purposes for the public benefft. The trust￿ are of the opinion thal
throughout the year. Edward's Trust CoM￿led wrth the duty in Section 4 of the Charrties Act 2011 lo have due
regard lo public benefft guidance PL*lished by the Charty C<xnmis$ion.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
The charty had total income of £638,488 for the year. of *thich £2W.076 was given fw restrKted purposes.
Total expendrtuft for the yearwas £671.108, whth wuKed ￿ an overall deficit for the year of £32.620. This
was considersbty redueed frcffl 2022's deficit of £110.864.
Investment Powers
The Memorandum of A￿cleS autPth)rise tmstees to make and hobj investments using the general funds of the
Company.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Reser4es policy
The charty's free reserves are its general unreslriclod fund$ lexcludirvj any ethenl represented by fixed
assels} less any fvnds whKh have been designated for spgcfft fvture prqects by the trustees. Details of
designated fvnds a￿ given in the fiftanc￿l statements.
Edward's Trusl reserves poky ts to aim to hold a mininum levd of free reserves equivalent lo approximatety
nine months expendrture. In order lo ensu￿ lh* any delay in the recei)t of irwme by the charity, caused by
the actions of a third party, does not affecl the abilty of the charity to its oblgalKJns lo rts benefLiaries.
The policy of Eoward's TnJsl is to continue to seek fijnding both to support ex¢5ts"ng commitmen15 and to
develop rts S•N￿5. The Trusfs f￿u$ has been on maintaining th& fvnding for its bereavement services and
to cwtinue to develop thi5 work.
The longer4enn goal continues to be lo increase the le7rt1 of funding to Edward's Twsl in order th* services
can respond lo and meet the levd of need for thild￿n and ytyjng pecffj￿ rewirlng bereavem8nl support. for
counselling and wellbeing therapy to adults affected by the death of a child.
At 31 December 2023 the ch* had unrestrKted frjnds of £438.246, of Wh￿ £437,668 are free feservas.

As part of Édward's Trust's strategic planning for 2023 we have developed a th￿e-year plan lo develop our
resources (financial, human. propety and techn￿09Y) to enabbe our serv￿eS to devek)p and gr+JW. The new
income generation Strategy whKh was develo￿ as part of Ihe fundraising consurtalK)n process includes new
aclivf(ies and initiatives to milKJale for potential gaps. Having accessed the income 9eneration actrvities
Trustees feel confident that by strewthening our diverse income base we will be able lo deliver our
organisational strategy over the next three year5. New initiatives such as a programme of virtual events is
being developed to attrad a new alKI￿nCe and engage e￿str"n9 suppDrtws. Trustees are confident that, with
the skills of Ihe fvndraising team and ils excellent track reecKd. the Trust ￿11 continue lo perform well and
achteve the income generat•)n tsrgets necessary to ensure the effective financial performance of Edward's
Trust in 2024.

¥cordan¢8 Wlth the Finanual Reporting Standard applicable in the UK ar￿ Republic of Ireland IFRS
1021 {effeclive 1 January 2019)., Financial Reportin9 Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard
applicabb in the UK and Republ￿ of Ireland. and the C(¥npanies Act 2006. The financi815tatements
have been prepared under the historical cost ￿nVent￿ft.

The Trustees assess whetherts use Ofg1￿￿9 Concern 1$ appropriate i.e. whetherthere are any material
uncertainl*$ related to events or conditions Ihat may ￿t signrf￿nI doubl on the abilty of the Charty
to continug as a going corKem. The Trustees make this a5se5smenl in respect of a period of one year
from the date of authorisation for Bsue of the financial statements and have concluded that the Charity
has adequate resources to cOntinL￿ in cyerational existen￿ for the foreseeable fU1u￿ and there are
no material uncertainties about the Charty's abilty to continue as a g￿n9 coneem. thus they continue
to adopt the going concem basis of accounlry in preparing the financial statements.
