Trustees’ Report
Rosie’s Rainbow Fund is a small charity that operates in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and occasionally elsewhere in the UK where needs are identified.
The trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 31 May 2023. The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in note 1 to the accounts and comply with the charity’s governing document, applicable law and the requirements of the Statement of Recommended Practice, “Accounting and Reporting by Charities” issue in March 2005.
Structure, governance and management
The charity was established by a charitable trust deed on 26 July 2004. The trustees who served during the years 2020/2021 were:

Trustees are recruited and appointed in accordance with the provisions of its trust deed. The trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed, and are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate exposure to these major risks.
Objectives and activities:

To provide music therapy and expression through music, art and play for sick or disabled children and teenagers in hospital, school or wherever needed

To support sick or disabled children, young people and their families providing special requirements as necessary to alleviate the trauma, stress and suffering of the whole family unit

To provide bereavement support services to parents and families who have lost a child

The charity operates in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and occasionally elsewhere in the UK.
Achievements and performance:
Rosie’s Rainbow Fund has worked tirelessly through the year to maintain their core objective to assist sick and disabled children and their families. The requests and needs of our ever increasing list of families with seriously ill or disabled children continues to grow year on year with the charity becoming known for its caring, dependable and specialist resources.
1. Therapies for Sick and Disabled Children and their Families
a) Paediatric Music Therapy in Hospitals

Over the last year in the wake of the pandemic and as the wards return to a semblance of life before Covid our Music Therapists have gradually returned to normal delivery save for the hospitals continued requirement for the use of facial coverings and increased hygiene precautions on the wards. Our your patients have embraced the return to live sessions. The music therapy is truly needed and appreciated particularly with some children displaying anxiety in the wake of covid restrictions. We are delighted to return to group sessions too. Children love to engage with our therapists and with other children. It is clear that our services are bringing immense joy and aiding healing.
We aim to continue supporting as many children as we can at the John Radcliffe, Royal Berks & Stoke Mandeville.
b) Bereavement Support Services
Our bereavement service has been busy this year with our therapist working normal hours and gratefully welcomed by many stressed and strained bereaved parents.
The benefits of counselling are clear and parents continuing to use this service as a lifeline at this terribletime in their lives.
The service provided by the Fund has been credited with helping many families get through this difficult time.
Support when a child dies -
Parents can request support from Rosie’s Rainbow Fund before, during and after the death of their child. The situation of loss may be when a baby or child is not expected to live or due to a sudden unexpected death.
c) Parent Support Services at the John Radcliffe Hospital
Our therapist has now returned to full service at JR although there have been adaptations to b be made due to the original therapy room being used for other purposes. We are happy to be back however and a sensory room has been adapted for our use for the time being so a full service is being delivered. Parents are delighted and relieved to have the service reinstated fully. A listening ear is a lifeline.
2. Fundraising & Events
For the year 22-23 we have been working up to a major fund raising gala at Wycombe Swan Theatre. This took place on 28[th] May 2023 with many months of planning. A great success the event was a sell out and almost 1000 seats sold. We produced a show with 300 young performers , and a West End cast of adults who gave their time and talents to raise money. The event raised awareness with resulting schools and businesses choosing our charity for their own events. £16,000.00 was raised.
We have been nominated as charity for the Fifield Fun Day to be held in August. Carolyn our founder and trustee has been active with charity talks to raise awareness,
3. Grants
We are undertaking new applications as our BBC Children in Need grant is almost concluded.
4. Looking Ahead
In the forthcoming year, we will aim to maintain and continue providing the services we offer. We have rebooked the Wycombe Swan for May 2024 as this was such a success.

5. Financial Review
Considering everything post covid we have remained in a stable position with enough money to fund our services. We aim to increase funds by further exploring the engagement of Corporate companies and applying for funds to employ some marketing expertise to increase awareness and revenue.

Independent Examiner's report for the year ended 31 May 2023
I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 May 2023, which are set out in the pages attached.
Responsibility of the Examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required by an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Act; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the requirements of the Act and the Regulations
have not been met; or
- (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
