To provide a quality educational experience in a safe, secure and stimulating environment. Our aim is to give each child opportunities to be creative, to learn and grow through play. Parents and carers are valued and respected, consulted and kept informed. They are also encouraged, involved and included as members of our setting.

There are two main nursery sessions per day for local children. We offer free nursery places for 3-4 year olds offering both 15 hours Free Early

Learning and 30-hour Extended Free Early Learning. Younger children from 2 ½  years are accepted through the 2-year free early learning plus can be fee paying. Happy Hands offers children appropriate play and educational experiences in conjunction with the governments Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

## Section D                      Achievements and performance 

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

Our story began, once upon a time in 1999  St Ann’s head teacher Ellen Baker planted the seed and inspired the beginning of Happy Hands, creating the nursery that was much needed for the school. Just look at us now. 

**We have all taken great pleasure again in our 25[th] year nurturing and guiding all our children along with the great help of their parents. We have together watched them grow immensely over a very busy and exciting year.** 

Staff have successfully managed all the wonderfully diverse children at Happy Hands by developing and extending their skills to all their individual needs creating a balanced, stimulating and challenging pedagogy within the nursery environment. They are a credit to our organisation and continue to contribute and shape our OUTSTANDING and ever transforming provision. A big thank you to the whole team, including our volunteers, especially Maureen for helping in nursery and David for bringing his guitar and singing with the children. This has helped the children to shine. 

Achievements have excelled over and above this year and are celebrated through the children’s emerging performing arts abilities. Starting with building on their own nursery rhyme repertoire, followed by taking part in

the Harvest Celebration Mass at St Ann’s Church, showcasing ‘The Harvest Beat’ song.  We have built a relationship with Christ Church Lunch club which has extended and given children more opportunities to express themselves, gain valuable skills in confidence building, concentration and enabled enjoyment through singing to all at the club. Our Christmas **Nativity** presented to parents was received with enthusiasm and much joy. Everyone left feeling delighted by the way the children depicted the story. At the **Valley Music Festival** we performed on the Venues BIG stage along with 6 other acts and schools. This wonderful experience was recognised and at our 25[th] Anniversary Celebration event we were presented with the Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir, Raymond English Youth Award Valley Festival by Hillary Osborn, Musical Director. The Family Learning Service **FACES** provided parent sessions in the Autumn term initially concentrating on ’50 Things to do before you’re 5’ In the Spring term parents and their children took part in **Big Cook Little Cook** enjoying the whole experience. A new timetable for the afternoon session in the Summer term facilitated huge steps for all childrens’ learning & development, especially enabling school readiness. Free play alongside structured activities including:Yoga with Mini Movez; RugbyTots, Robot Reg, Phoenix Gymnastics Academy, Noodle performing Arts and inspiring and giving confidence to everyone. A new timetable for the afternoon session in the Summer term facilitated huge steps for all childrens’ learning & development, especially enabling school readiness. Free play alongside structured activities including:Yoga with Mini Movez; RugbyTots, Robot Reg, Phoenix Gymnastics Academy, Noodle performing Arts and inspiring and giving confidence to everyone. Our new ‘ **MOVING ON UP’** programme promoting ‘Transition is a process not an event’ was taken on board by parents and children. Challenges were sent out weekly based on three main themes:Developing independence; Developing fine motor skills and Communication, language & reading with a great response and enthusiasm. Many other events including:- A fancy dress day held to raise money for ‘Crackerjacks Childrens Trust’, helping children with disabilities and raising awareness, Zoolab providing our children with awe and wonder, a Teddy Bears picnic in the sunshine and a visit from the ice cream man. All before **Celebrating in style 25 years of Happy Hands** with music by David & Pete, guests included MP Marie Tidball, Alan Law Mayor of Stocksbridge with counsellor Susan Abrahams and many parents/committee members past & present, not forgetting the neighbours.

**Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves** 

We aim to manage our finances responsibly, budget for predictable fluctuations in income and hold reserves to cover expenses due to other eventualities including staff redundancy payments in the case that the Pre-School had to close. 

Forecasted running costs are looking to increase to £170.00 therefore the reserve we hold will include redundancy estimated at £35.000 alongside future building projects to include the now priority of the refurbishing of the outdoor play area due to deterioration and safety concerns. Estimates for this would start at around £35.000 

The change to the financial year has enabled us to work with the advanced payment of the Free Early Learning monies we received from the Government to help organise

Respective The charrty's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The
responsibilities of charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under
trustees and examiner section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an
independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the
Charity Commission (under sects'on 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act. and
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basls of Independent My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by
examiner's statement the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting
records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with
those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or
disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees
concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all
the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is
given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair, view and the report is
limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
