Name of body entitled to appoint Trustees:
Trustees are appointed by members at an Annual General Meeting.
B: Structure, Governance and Management
The MCG is an unincorporated association governed by a Constitution.
Trustees serve as members of the MCG Executive Committee (Committee) and are nominated for election at the MCG’s Annual
General Meeting which is to be held between 1May and 30 June each year. The Committee acts as the administrative and managerial body of the MCG.
C. Objects And Activities.
The MCG’s Constitution states that its aims are to promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment in Maresfield and surrounding area.
MCG undertakes a number of activities for the public benefit, notably maintaining rights-of-way, signposts, stiles, as well as keeping footpaths clear and open for walkers and raising monies for other charities. It undertakes regular community and event activities, such as operating litter-picking days and takes an interest in local planning proposals.
D. Achievement and Performance
During the period covered by the annual report MCG organised a benefit quiz for a local young carers association attended by over 100 people, arranged two litter-picking days, erected a Christmas Tree for the benefit of villagers; and through its dedicated and weekly scheduled footpaths group cleared many footpaths, rights of way and other areas in and around the parish of Maresfield, including the repair of a signpost and railing on a walking route, litter and leaf clearance by the local school, also enabling less able members of the public to be able to walk along various paths and by-ways. The Trustees have received a grant from Maresfield Parish Council towards to installation of a bench for the benefit of the public.
For the period covered by this report, the Trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.
E. Financial Review
The main source of funds for the MCG are donations and occasional fund raising events. During the period covered in this report the MCG also received a single large legacy gift and a small grant was received from Maresfield Parish Council. All expenditure of funds supports the aims of the MCG, for example through the purchase and use of equipment for footpath clearance, path rail and signpost repairs.
The Trustees do not have any formal reserves policy, are not required to do so by the Constitution and do not consider it necessary to maintain such a policy.
F. Plans for Future Periods
The Trustees will continue to conduct their activities in accordance with the aims of the MCG through a series of activities similar to years previously.
