TRusfEES ANNUAL REPORT
YEAR ENDED 31 OCTOBER 2024
The Trustee5, who are also Directors for the purposes of company law, have pl@2gure In
presenting their report and una(KJited flnancial ststements for the year ended 31st Cktoter
2024
Constitution and Objectives
Society was originally formed in 1831 and first register&1 under the Charities Att on ISI
September 1993 as Charity 1025605. On P April 2004 the Society was incortK)rat8J at
Cardiff under the Companies Att 198S as a private company limited ty guarant￿ and
subsa]uently on 20th May 2004 registered with the Charity Commission with the numl
1103853. The obj￿1Ve5 of the &)oety, which have remained substsnb'ally unchanga sin
Its formatlon, are -the promotion of horticultu￿ and floricultu￿ for the beneflts of the
inhabitants of the Borough of Taunton by the holding of an Annual Show for the
exhibition of flowers, fruit and vejetables and by such othw measures as the Direttors may
from tlme to tlme thlnk fft."
Organisation and Dirertor5
The Society's affairs are managed by the Company Dlrectors who operate in an executive
role. A numlEr of key FX)St holders comprise the Show ManagerrEnt Team which is updated
on progress ￿rIOdicallY and sutrcommittee5 SUPPOrt the plannlng process.
The Charities Acts require the DIr￿or5 to prepare Financial Ststements for each financial
year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Society at the end of tk
year, and of the surplus or defiat, selethng 5uitsble accounting i)olioes and to apply them
on a consistent basis.
Chalrnian's Revlew of Actlvltles
2024 again saw the show being held in the lovely grounds of Vivary Park in Taunton. The
park as usual was the ideal location for such a wonderful show being close to the town
centre and all its amenities. We were also tless&l with mainly sunny weather which made
for the perfect show.
During the run up to the show we had some staff changes. We said go(*Jbye to Vikki
Pethick the show manager Sin￿ 2015 at the beginning of the year and I must thank her for
all the hard bvork and dedtcation she showeJ over those years, and she will be sadly missed.
It was my pleasure to promote Fox as the new show manager at short nots￿ being
ably supportÉYJ by Bea Wilkey as the show assistant. My sin￿￿ thanks go to both for
working tirelessly to put on this SUc￿5fUl and wonderful show at such short noti￿.
The last few years Sin￿ the pandemic has b￿n a very difficult time for the show with the
cost of running the show spiralling. The cost of tentage, togethw with having to pay a
substantial amount to Somerset Council to hire Vivary Park, meant we had real con￿M5
about the viability of the show. I am pleased to report that due to Beccy and Bea's hard
work and incredible management ski115, the show has managed to make a very small surplus
which is the first time for several years.

Chairnian's Review of Activities cortinued
This year several charoes We￿ made to the show ground layout and parking arrangements
for Traders and the public. At qurte short noti￿ the use of St G8)rges khool for traders
parking was withdrawn so alternative arrangements had to be made at the last moment. To
alleviate the problem, we decided that traders would use the Taunton ￿ane cricket pitch
and surrounding area to park. This in turn rrEant we had less space for disabl￿ and
memlErs parking. To help alI￿late the problem parking was spread l)etween Rthara Huish
College and &'shop Fox's School. Thls proved to be very successful thanks to the help of the
Taunton Rotsry Club who steppaJ in to manage the parking.
Changes to the layout of the show also provay to te very SUc￿5ful. After taking note of
comments made atout the layout of the food and craft rnarqU￿ last year, we split the
Marqu￿ Into two. Meaning (hal half (he Marqu* containeJ f(KK1 traders only and the other
half craft traders. This worked wdl and the traders aprEar& happy wlth this arrangement.
Wilton lands which for show purFoses we renam&l the Artisan Village was r8)rganlsed to
make MO￿ spaces for rn0￿ traders, thus making it feel a more atmosphtric and %xiable
area. I have had several comments from traders and the public atK)ut how successful the
Artisan Village has tr￿CoMe. In no small part to Ron and June Smith who were constsntly
mixing and helping tradss and the public who all appreciated their b'reless efforts to make
the Artisan Village run smoothly.
Hovlever other areas of the show were struggllrNJ whlch stlll se8ns to ts a hangover from
the pandemic. It apFears many of the exhibitors have r&'red or gone 100 % online and were
not interested in exhibiting. The Floral Marqu￿ which in years gone by could have many
exhibits only had 16. A150, the Plant Village, an aw set aside specifically for nurseries to Sell
plants, was very lacki'ng in traders. For next year's show a concerted effort will be made to
r*ify this as the aim of the show is to promote the love of h0￿cultUre and to nurture this
philosophy at the show.
show would not be complete without the Magnifi￿nt Competition Marqu￿. As you
enter the rnarqU￿ you are imm8Jiately met with the gorgeous strnt from the flowers which
have ￿en tenderly grown over the past few months to t)e at thelr Ik5t for the show. l am
in awe at the standard of the exhibits, from v8Jetsbles to magnificent displays of flowers to
dress designs and photographs. My favourite is the children's section where you can see
range of exhi￿'ts imaginatively and lovingly ueataj. I must congratulate Ian Coleby and his
team for all their hard work organislng and oVer￿1Th) this worKlerful tk4rt of the show.
So, I￿king forward to next year we will oENiously be looking to improve the show in areas
such as the Floral rnarqU￿ and plant village. New ideas are already being put into pla￿ to
enhan￿ the showground layout, atts are being bjoked for the arena and music stages and
traders are tJ)oking their pitches at the show. Full details of the enterta1nrn￿t will LE kX)Sted
