The business of the Centre is managed by the Board of Management as a vthole and they a
responsible lor the strategic direcb.on and policy of the charity. Certain trustees- Sswdmi Kailasananda,
Swami Durgananda. Swami Sivadasananda and Swami Jyotimiayananda
who are experienced in
the operational and financial issues of associated Centres vthich are part ol the Sivananda Yoga
Vedanta worldwide movement- play a more active role as Iruslees of the cenlre. Responsibility for the
day to day management of the Centre was delegated to the Centre DirLrtCf. Swami Jyolirmayananda
who is responsible for all the acliwties of the centre.

Tfuslee induction and training
The Iiuslees a￿ already familiar wlh the practical of the charty being pr￿tiSing Yogis
themselves. All a￿ sympathetic lo the leaching5 of Sri Swami Sivananda Maharaj and generally are
active in other associated non profil making cenlres vthich are part of Ihe Sivananda Yoga Vedanta
Centre movement worldwide. Most trustees are active in the annual budgth'ng pr￿esS and are very
familiar wth the objectives of the Centre. Infomiation regarding the dutes of trustees is circulated lo
and discussed vAth all trustees.
Risk rnanagement
The board of management regularty conducts a review of the major risks to bthich the charity is
exposed. Regular reporting to the boaid of management helps minimise financial and operats'onal ri5k$
and certain Iruslees visit the centre. Individuals invofved in running any cla55es a￿ reqUI￿d to have
the appropriate qualifications. Insurance is in place lo protect againsl 0￿rat￿￿ risks.
The charity's risk assessment has been updaled and fine-tuned furtsr under the guidance of a
professional risk consultant.

The Centre is affiliated in spirit. lo the extent pemiitted by applicable laws and the objects of the
Centre, in aim and activity, wlh the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Cenlre, Val Morin, Quebec, Canada,

Objectives. a¢tivitl&$ and public benefit
The Cenlre's principal activity during the year remains to advance the Hindu religK)n as a way ol life by
the propagation, practice and dissemination of the spiritual teachings and doctrines of the Indian saint,
mystic and sage His Holiness Sri Swami SivanarKla, founder of the DNiine Lile Society, Rishikesh,
India, who taught the yoga of synthesis as a means lo reach physical and menlal welbeing and
ultimately Sell-realisatKJn.
The trustees have had due regard to Ihe guidance issued by the Charity Cornmissioners, including
public benefit guidance. and they consider that the work carried out by the centre is for the publi
benefft.
In furtherance of these objects the Centre brings together persons Inte￿sted in the discipline of Yoga
and prornoles the knovledge of such discipline. This is achieved by running a centre al ils operational
address to promote Ihe theory and pracbce of such a di￿lpI1ne. Projeds are occagonally undertaken
al other venues.
Classes in me(lilalion, yoga and relaxation are offered. The five basic win¢ples of yoga promoted by
Swami Vishnudevananda are taught as part of the classes. Certificate course5, retrea15 and special
programmes take place al the ¢entre and occasionally at other venues. Inwted guests visit the cent
lo assist in providing some of the special programmes_

Achlavements and perfomian¢e
The main area of charitable activity is the running of classes. courses. ￿orkshops. residentia1
certificate ¢ourses held at the centre and retreats lo a¢hEve the Chairtable objects.ves of the centre.
There are also online yoga classes and courses. The Centre also runs a boutique shop located al ils
operational add￿$$ where products promoting the activrties of the centre are for sale. The range of
products are regularly reviewed and stock levels are carefully monitored. The ￿ntre has written
various books promoting the objects of the charity. Royalties are received from these Ixx)ks which are
also available for sale in the boutique.
The centre is dependent on and graleftjl for the contributions rendered by its unpaKI volunteers who
play an essential role in helping to achieve the obJectNes of the ￿ntre.
Achieving these goals is dependent on the number of people attenong the Classes and courses
organised by the Cenlre. These numbers are affected by general eccnornic Iiends and the income
does vary each year. During 2023 numbers remained lo￿tr than pre pandemic years, but towards the
end of the year. the Centre saw a gradual inctease in student numbers. There was gocKI attendance
for the annual Easter ￿treat and the residential cerb"ficate courses in the centre.

Members of the Centre. as distinct from members of the board of management, ace entitled to a
discount on classes. courses, workshops and retreats. The Centre has an active membership
scheme. There are currenuy 107 members of the Centre vkno pay a subscripb'on. to be membets.
Financial review
Principal funding sources

This income is dersved from yoga classes, ¢¢xJrses (including onl1r￿ courses). teacher training.
workshops, retreats and other programs.

Costs are incurred in wnning the classe5, courses and ￿sIden11a1 cerbficate courses at the centre's
emises and al other locations. The expendrture has been apportioned betr￿en these drfferenl
charitable headings.
No fundraising is undertaken diredty a￿1 no costs are incurred in that regard.
The deficit in funds for the year of £80.699 (2022- £151.133) is stated after depreciation of £90.270

Investment policy
The Board has the power to make investments under the Arbdes and can appoint a profess[f￿al
investment manager if deemed approprk4le. No such appointment has been Tnade. The Board lakes a
very piudenl view regarding the investment of surplus fijnds which are invested in bank balance5 as
funds are required lo meet the Cent￿.$ ongoing needs and lo build up ￿selVes.
Flnanclal position at year end and reserves policy
The charity has a reserves policy th* unreslri¢ted funds in the fomi of free reserves not committed or
invested in tangible fixed assets Should represent between 3-6 monlhs ol expenditure. The board
reco9nise that this is important as a ￿nificant proporb.on of the reserves are invested in the freehold
propety owned by the charty.
The centre has cash balances of £36,006 and net current liabil￿e$ of £447.857 at the year end12022.'

Plans for future periods
The Retreat income form5 3 substantial part of the income ffom charitable actIv￿eS and has incfeased
by 73% compared to 2022. TheTe is especially much interest in retreats in the UK countryside. Apart
from the well-attended Easter Retreat in Kent. a second retreat in Kent has now been added during
summer and we are organising a May Bank Holmlay relreal on the coast in Hampshire. We trust that
these addrtional relreals will help to share the teachings to a broader audience as *EII as provide the
centre wth the necessary extra income.
Vvilh the vast offer of yoga dasses all over London. most of the parb"cipants of the day-to-day a¢livilies
ol the centre are li￿n9 locally. We have started to advertise more acts.vdy In the svtrounding areas of
the centre lo promote the drop-in yoga classes and courses via flyers and postcards as well as via
large poster displays in the shop windows of the centre. The free taster dass was reintroduced on
Saturday afternoons to sample the Swananda class Ythoul obligation.
A new website is in pro￿$$ of being deveh)ped, wth a focus on irnpmwng the web5rte's wisibilily as
one ol the most crili¢al indicators of a successful search engine oplirntzalion ISEO) strategy.
