Chairs’ report 2022 - 2023, Lucy Edwards

Klass committee

==> picture [111 x 71] intentionally omitted <==

The Klass committee is the engine behind all of our events. They decide what events to run, and then plan those events, buy everything needed, set up, staff the stands and then pack away at the end of the night. It’s a huge job and the committee spend many hours at school making our events happen! We’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone who helps in this way.

2022 - 2023 has seen a number of changes within the committee, due to the committee shrinking in size the number of events this year have had to be reduced and decisions made in regards to planning and feasibility. We have said goodbye to a number of committee members and trustees and have also welcomed new members who have brought many welcome new ideas to the committee.

At present due to the size of the committee events this year will be limited and therefore Klass welcomes any additional support from the school community. If anyone else would like to join the committee, or just sit in on a meeting to see what it’s like, please do get in touch. We always love to welcome new people.

Event highlights

Our first event of 2022 was Fireworks Night , where we continued to have two displays, including a ‘quiet’ display at 6.15pm. Despite the rain the event was a great success and made £3,030.85 in profit.

In December we organised the now annual Kingslea Festive Event, with a festive trail for all year groups, a performance by the Kingslea choir, a festive hamper raffle and refreshments. The event was a great success and well enjoyed throughout the Kingslea community. The event raised a total of £982.45.

As a smaller event in February all of the children were sent home with a packet of raisins for the half term break with the task of ‘Fund-Raisin’. Children were tasked with completing jobs for their friends and family in return for spare change donations which they then returned to school in their raisin boxes. The event raised £682.13.

March saw the return of our Kingslea Pop-Up Bookshop as part of World Book Day 2023, with the children coming to the school hall in their classes to choose their own books to buy and take home. Children, especially those in the younger years, went away with armfuls of reading material and the day seemed to be well-received by all. Following on from lessons learnt during the previous years event Y6 came in first to ensure that they had the opportunity to access books for older children.

During March we also introduced an adult only event, the Kingslea Quiz and Curry Night. This was a very popular event and managed and compared by Mr Chadburn. Food was provided by Rikabi, a local food producer with children at the school. Learnings from the event included having a backup payment option as the SumUp platform wasn’t working on the night.

In June KLASS hosted our main fundraising event of the year, Kingslea Fest 2023 . This event was the biggest to date and a real celebration of the Kingslea community. The token system remained in place and will be used in events for 23-24. The profit for the event was £5,911.85.

We finished the year with the popular Ice-pop Fridays , Sports Day refreshments and the return of inperson school uniform sales.

Ongoing projects include our partnerships with EasyFundraising and Amazon Smile , and the preloved uniform Facebook site.

Spending

Each term, the Klass chairs and treasurers get together with Mr Conway to discuss how much money Klass has raised and how it might be spent. Final decisions on spending are then made by the committee.

In the last academic year, your donations, via Klass, paid in full or contributed to a number of projects including the new school buddy bench, books for the new reception starters, classroom iPads, school resources and the giant inflatable on the school field at the end of term.

We’re so proud to be able to make these improvements to our school environment and enhance our children’s time here at Kingslea.

Communication

We continue to send out regular newsletters about our activities via ParentMail. Our social media following is also steadily increasing across both Facebook and Twitter. These are great ways to keep up to date with what’s going on.

Thank yous

We have had a lot of support from the wider Horsham community this year, with sponsorship for the whole academic year from Brock Taylor.

A special thanks goes to Carly Hacker at 1348 Design, who is responsible for designing all our fantastic posters, and the wonderful banners and programme for Kingslea Fest.

We’d like to extend our thanks to the school staff for their support both at our events and behind the scenes, and of course to everyone who volunteers with Klass – our wonderful committee, the Klass reps, those who help out at individual events, and those who join us at our events and donate money!

I report on the accounts of KLASS, Kingslea Association for the year ended 31[st] August 2023 with a balance of £15,711.48

Basis of Independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from your committee members concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements to keep accounting records and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records have not been met;

or

  1. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
