The financial statement and accounts have been prepared independently in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 by Eric O’Connor from Nicholson Tax & Accounts, Derbyshire, who found the accounts in good order. We provide emotional and practical advice or support in a non-judgemental way and will always demonstrate empathy, respect and dignity to the person we are working with. In 2023 the OCD-UK support services provided thousands of people with information, advice and support, whether that was a compassionate voice at the end of the phone who understood innately the thoughts and feelings associated with OCD, or Laura there with a smiling face to faciliate a support group, we were there for people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Let's look at some of the numbers... **OCD-UK IN NUMBERS DURING 2023** **2023 Annual Report** OCD **-UK** In 2023 we generated £161k to keep our services running, with £121k raised through the fundraising efforts and donations of our supporters. Our members' generosity continued in 2023, the number of people supporting the charity by becoming members reased slightly and the amount donated by members also increased. in every **73p £1** spent went towards charitable activities from raising awareness to supporting children and adults affected by OCD. **£1** spent  **£239**  Could pay for our advice line to be staffed for 8-hours a day.   **One** or **Two** of us in every one hundred people in the UK will be living with **O** bsessive- **C** ompulsive **D** isorder.   Our website had **1.56m** page views by users from across  **725k** the globe. Our support discussion forums had **1.03m** page views by users from across **39k** the globe.  Last year the time given by our amazing volunteers contributed to the equivalent donation of **£15.8k**  users from across the globe. 16 17 ## 2023 ## The year in numbers. Your fabulous support, through membership donations and fundraising, has helped our small team of staff and volunteers to continue to work hard for people affected by **O** bsessive- **C** ompulsive **D** isorder. This is just some of what we provided during 2023. Our online support groups were hosted 102 times and the total number of attendence was times 3,282 by 697 different people, with a combined meeting talk time of 170 hours!  **828** 1,224  OCD-UK Support emails were answered, which members offered personalised, individual advice and support.  **58%** of those emailing were people with OCD. Other emails came from people supporting a loved one, other charities and health professionals. £177,981 of grant funding secured for the parent project due to take place between 2024-2027. At every stage, we listened to the people we work with to ensure they felt heard, and we shape our services around their needs. Creating an inclusive organisation is a fundamental part of living up to our purpose of supporting all those affected by . **Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder** OCD-UK 25 2023 We didn't do it alone! OCD-UK volunteers kindly donated **1,266** hours throughout the year. This was worth **£15,825** to the charity. OCD OCD-UK mambar Jeanette raising awareness in 2 ## www.ocduk.org Our acclaimed website continues to offer extensive resources freely available to OCD sufferers across the globe. ## Structure, Governance and Management of OCD-UK during 2023 The chair of OCD-UK presents the annual report at the charity’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) each year. ## **Volunteers** OCD-UK had many committed and regular active volunteers across the UK during 2023, most of whom have been directly affected by OCD. Their selfless personal commitment has been the cornerstone of OCD-UK’s success in delivering its aims and objectives. We estimate that our volunteers have donated at least 1,266 hours to OCD-UK during 2023, in monetary terms worth at least £15,825 to the charity. These volunteers have helped us provide direct support online and offline, facilitated support groups, worked on our website and publications, or helped at our events or conferences. Other volunteers not included in the above figures have also contributed their time to actively support the research and media work that we promote. ## **Legal Status** OCD-UK was founded in December 2003 and formed as a charity under a constitution in January 2004. We were officially registered with the UK charity commission on the 14th April 2004. The charity registration number is 1103210. ## **Our Structure** The board of trustees is the governing body of the charity. It is their role to establish the policies, objectives and procedures for the charity to ensure the effective running of the organisation in pursuit of its long-term objectives. ## **Patrons** The trustees of OCD-UK remain grateful for the donation of time that volunteers give to our charity. We recognise that we can achieve even more with their assistance, and we must provide them with regular support, training and supervision to help them in their role. We are honoured to be supported in our work by two patrons, actor and writer Ian Puleston-Davies and highly respected Professor Paul Salkovskis from the University of Oxford. We are also supported in our work by overseas ambassador Professor Adam Radomsky, from Concordia University, Montreal. ## **Professionals** We would also like to acknowledge our gratitude and thanks to the following accountancy, legal and anxiety charity colleagues, health professionals and media personalities who kindly donated their time to offer support and assistance during 2023. The number of people highlights the collaboration between OCD-UK and health professionals. ## **Membership** Membership of OCD-UK is open to any individual with an interest in OCD or the charity’s work. At the end of 2023 the charity had 828 active members (up slightly from 822 at the end of 2022). OCD-UK is a membership-based charity, managed by a team of dedicated trustees which make up our executive membership committee. These are endorsed and elected by our members at our Annual General Meeting. They are all members who have volunteered for the charity for a period of time before being approached to become a trustee. They receive no remuneration, other than essential working costs approved by the charity. Uniquely, OCD-UK is completely service-user led; all of our trustees have suffered or have a close family member suffering with OCD. It's this insight that allows us to make informed decisions about the direction we shape your charity. Those listed below all served as OCD-UK trustees during 2023. One of the unique aspects of OCD-UK is the fact that the team are all service-users themselves, they have all experienced OCD first-hand, which means the work is not just a job for the team. Their dedication, passion and commitment is evident in the work they do. The team are all highly professional, and again in 2023 managed to punch above their weight in terms of service delivered for the limited resources available to the charity. I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. ## Independent examiner's statement I have completed my examination. ACCOUNTING POLICIES ## **Basis of preparing the financial statements** The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2022. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. ## **Income** All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably. ## **Expenditure** Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. ## **Allocation and apportionment of costs Stocks** Stocks are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance for obsolete and slow moving items. ## **Taxation** The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities. ## **Fund accounting** Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes. Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements. ## **Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits** The charity operates a defined contribution pension scheme.
