BASINGSTOKE AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY ACCOUNTS FOR YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE, 2022 CHARITY NUMBER 1103166 ## Basingstoke Amateur Operatic Society – Year Ended 30 June, 2022 Trustees Report ## The trustee presents the accounts for the year ended 30 June, 2022 ## **Structure, governance and management** The Basingstoke Amateur Operatic Society, 9 Lightfoot Grove, Basingstoke, Hampshire RG21 3HU, is registered with the Charities Commissioners No. 1103166 and constituted by Deed of Trust. The charity is administered by its management committee who meet on a regular basis during the year. Andrew Wood, the treasurer, is also a charity trustee. The charity is also a member of the National Dramatic and Operatic Association (NODA) which provides helpful advice and guidance to amateur societies and individuals. New trustees are elected at the AGM. The management of the charity have examined the major risks to which the society is exposed and confirm that systems are in place to mitigate our exposure to the major risks. ## **Objectives and activities** The society was registered with the Charity Commissioners on 13 April, 2004. Its objectives are to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education by the presentation of musical productions. The focus of its activities remains the main musical production. They welcome membership regardless of personal background, faith, gender or personal circumstance to promote openness and the sharing of skills and life experiences. They also encourage people to help out behind the scenes as well as to be involved with the performance to support and educate in all aspects of the theatre. ## **Achievements and performance** The main achievements of this year were: The Wind in The Willows, The Haymarket, September 2021 BAOS Limelight production _All Together Now_ , November 2021 Christmas Celebration, December 2021 The Pirates of Penzance, The Anvil, March 2022 Kinky Boots, The Haymarket, March/April 2022 ## **Financial Review** The results of the year are set out on pages 5-8. The management of the charity consider the year end position to be good but feels we must make sure we continue to monitor our overall financial position very carefully in future years. It is the policy of the charity to maintain its free reserves at a level which equates to between 3 and 6 months’ unrestricted expenditure. This provides sufficient funds to cover management, administration and support costs and to respond to emergency needs which arise from time to time. ## **Future Plans (as of 1[st] July 2022)** The coming year will see BAOS perform: Centenary Concert, The Haymarket, July 2022 BAOS Limelight Seussical, The Haymarket, October 2022 The Little Mermaid, The Haymarket, March 2023 **Declaration:** By order of the board: 14 September 2022 ......................................................... ........................................... The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. ## It is my responsibility to: - Examine the accounts under section 43 of the 1993 Act; - To follow the procedure laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 43(7)(b) of the 1993 Act); and - To state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of the Examiner’s Report** My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a “true and fair” view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below: ## **Independent Examiner’s Statement** In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: 1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that any material respect the requirements: to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the Act; and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the Act have not been met. 2. To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
