Report & Financial Review 2019 to 2020

## **Our Aims and objectives**

The objects of the Museum as defined in the Memorandum of Association are:to advance education by the establishment and maintenance of a museum of local history in Llangollen.

- To provide archive space for artefacts, maps, documents and photographs relevant to Llangollen and the surrounding area.

- To make those items available to the public, either through a handling archive or through access to the original items, for education and research.

- To pursue ancillary and associated activities that further the Objects of the Museum and to

   - promote the public use of the museum.

- To promote public interest in the archaeology, heritage and history of Llangollen and the surrounding area.

## **How our activities deliver public benefit**

The overriding goal of the museum is to create a venue and organisation that is self-sustaining both operationally and financially.

- The Museum facilitates and delivers a transfer of knowledge about the history of Llangollen and the surrounding area to all visitors.

- The Museum displays, preserves and conserves artefacts relating to the local area.

- The Museum encourages children and young people to enjoy history, heritage and archaeology within the museum and surrounding area.

- The Museum serves the local community as a centre for heritage of the local and surrounding area.

## **Principal activities for 2019-2020**

- Series of monthly talks and exhibitions in the art gallery (until Covid closure).

- A number of events, including coffee mornings.

- The Museum closed in March 2020 due to the Covid outbreak.

- The remainder of 2020 was used to obtain emergency funding and put in place procedures for safe re-opening in 2021. An HLF funded programme also saw a significant increase in the amount of items from our collection being made available on our online archive.

## **Plans for Future Periods**

The charity is planning for re-opening in 2021 and continuing the activities outlined above in the forthcoming years subject to satisfactory funding arrangements.

Report & Financial Review 2019 to 2020

## **Financial Review**

## Grant Funded Programmes

Grant funding for specific programmes made up over 95% of the Museum turnover for the year, split between the Emergency Business Rates Covid funding and the HLF Emergency programme.

## Finance for daily operations

An income stream for the museum was provided via donations, a small shop and fundraising projects. Fundraising efforts include:

- Coffee mornings throughout the year (until closure due to Covid).

- Monthly talks given by members of the public or academics (until closure due to Covid).

- A genealogy/property history service.

- Other individual events (until closure due to Covid).

Donations are via a donation box situated by the main entrance/exit or occasionally by individual donations.

The small shop within the Museum sells books, cards and other small gift type items (until closure due to Covid), its sole purpose being a source of income for the Museum.

## Investment Policy

Llangollen Museum has no investment policy.

## Reserves Policy

It was agreed by Trustees at a meeting on 14[th] October 2020 to have £10,000 set aside as a reserve fund to allow for future costs, particularly of work/repairs that may be required to the building, and that may be difficult to find from grant sources.

## **The Small Company Provision**

This report has been prepared in accordance with the provisions for small companies under Part VII of the Companies Act 1985.

The Trustees report and financial statements were submitted to the Trustees for approval on 7 July 2021 and were signed by the Chair on 7 July 2021.
