Objectlves and Actlvities
The Rowan Armour-Brown Memorlal Trust Fund, also known as the RAB Trust,
offers supplementary support and assistance to règlstered full and part-tlme
students enrolled on vlolln maklng and bowed Instrument restorationlrepalr courses
within the UK.
We provlde an annual award opportunlty to provlde asslstance to reglstered
students for purchaslng Items requlred for furtherlng thelr development In the craft
of making, repalring and restoring violin and bowed instruments. Additionally the
Trust provldes numerous opportunities throughout the year for the enrolled
students to purchase Items fundamentsl to thelr studles and Instrument maklng
development at low Gost. We also support registered students by facllltatlng work
experlence placements and participation In bowed Instrument courses.
Achievements and Performance
There are three vlolln and bowed Instruments colleges wlthln the Unlted Klngdom
Newark Violin Making School, Merton College and West Dean College. The Trust
was able to asslst 23 students by making awards of £12,030 comblning of cash
awards for tool purchases. the provlslon of tools dlrectly where posslble, study
books, suppl8m8ntal Instrument courses and workshop placements for experlonce
wlthln a luthler or shop.
Tho Trust was bequeathed several workshop tool donatlons thls year whlch led to
our tool and instrument sales belng more slgnlficant In size than we usually
experience which enabled us to beneflt the students to a greater extent than usual
and also bolster our fundlng for future awards.
The Trust was also able to comblne a speclal tool sale wlth a student forum at the
annual Lutherie event In Newark allowlng RAB trustees the opportunlty to assist
students not only In tool provislon but also offer expert advlce and facilitate
networklng. The Trust provlded travel asslstsnce for students travelling from Merton
College and West Dean College to the event.
The Trust has addltlonally worked wlth the Brltish Vlolln Makers Assoclatlon (BVMA)
to provlde spaces for RAB Trust award students on thelr popular and often
oversubscrlbed setup and bow making courses for which the Trust is grateful.

The Trust also made a sale of a cello that several of the Trustees had partlcipated In
completing and this sale alone generated a slgnificant Inflow for the Trust adding to
build upon the prevlous exceptional year for fundralslng.
Financial Review
The Trust funds Itself through the sale of donatlons recelved usually In bequests.
These donatlons are generally workshop Glearan¢es whl¢h may InGlude
Instruments, books and vlolin maklng tool8.
The RAB Trust financlal year runs from January 2024 to December 2024 and has an
overall cash balance of £70,208 of whlch £33,125 Is held on deposlt Includlng
reserves.
Due to the Intermlttent nature by whlch the Trust recelves Income through bequests
or donatlons the funds held on deposlt represent a 8lgnlflcant reserva upon whlch
to draw upon if so required.
Thls flnanclal year the RAB Trust has recelved an income of £36,057.49 agalnst a
total expendlture of £14,736.52 generatlng a net Income of £21,320.97.
Our overall cash balance at the close of December 2024 Is £70,208 upon a prevlous
year close of £48,887. As mentloned in the previous section the Trust has
experlenced another unusual year wlth regard to bequeathed donatlons but also
slgnlflcantly with the sale of a cello whl¢h In Itself ralsed a net amount of £18,240 for
the Trust.
The Income recelved from Instrument and tools sales amounted to £28.786 In total
for the year with the afore￿nentIon0d cello sale representlng almost over half that
sum. The Trust has also recelved an Income of £1740 from onllne courses, £2000
from the Educatlonal Servlces and slgnlflcant donatlons from The Roblnson
Charitable Trust, The Marsh Charitable Trust and Michael Cane to whom we are
most grateful.
The RAB Trust had made awards of £12,030 to students across 3 natlonal colleges .
Newark Vlolln Maklng School, Merton College and West Dean Collége. In addltlon to
that monetary sum the Trust has also awarded tools. books and travel expenses to
students.

charity {"thp Trust") for the year ended
Responsibillties and As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation
basis of report of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act
2011 ('the Act").
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out
under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I
have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Cornmission
