**KINGS NORTON TENNIS CLUB** ## **TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE PERIOD JANUARY TO DECEMBER 2022** **Charity Name: Kings Norton Tennis Club Registered Charity Number: 1102872** ## **Address: Grange Hill Road, Kings Norton, Birmingham B38 8RE** Kings Norton Tennis Club is a community amateur sports club located in the Kings Norton district of south Birmingham. The club’s facilities comprise three floodlit, hard surface tennis courts and a clubhouse with car parking. The land and buildings are freehold and are held in trust by the Official Custodian for Charities. The charity is governed by a constitution adopted in 2004. Day-to-day running of the club is the responsibility of a Management Committee. A board of Trustees ensures that the charity continues to operate for the public benefit, within the law, within the terms of its constitution and subject to the requirements of the Charity Commission. Members of the Management Committee and the Trustees are all unpaid volunteers who are elected or re-elected by the club members at the annual general meeting. The current Trustees are: Robin Johnson (chair), David Hill (secretary), Paul Arundel, Will Drever, Roger Goodchild, Lorraine Langdon and Eileen McCann. The charity’s objective is the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation by providing facilities for playing tennis in the Kings Norton district of Birmingham and surrounding areas. The club is affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association and supports LTA initiatives to encourage participation in tennis by players of all ages and social groups. Audited financial accounts for the year ended 31 December 2022 have been submitted separately. Income totalled £26,941 from a mixture of sources including membership subscriptions, court booking fees, social events and room hire by local groups and individuals. As for many organisations, 2022 marked a return to normality after the disruption caused by the Covid lockdowns. Club tennis continued and teams from the club played in the Birmingham and Metropolitan leagues. Tennis coaching, provided by an LTA accredited coach, is an important activity at the club and during the year 127 children and 36 adults took part in weekly tennis lessons. In partnership with the charity “Give It Your Max” the club has forged links with local primary schools to offer tennis opportunities for children in disadvantaged areas. Adult mental wellbeing sessions were provided with sponsorship from the Heart of England Community Foundation. Separately, a new project was launched aimed at engaging more teenage girls in playing tennis. In July, as part of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games celebrations, the club hosted a large tennis festival attended by more than 50 children and parents from local schools. The club coach continues to make a major contribution both in financial terms and in promoting tennis activity for this area of Birmingham. The playing membership was slightly lower than the corresponding date in 2021 as the table shows: Adult Playing 98 79 Junior Social 38 26 Life End 21 End 22 57 37 Electrical rewiring and replacement low energy lighting was a major expense but this should slowly repay for itself in terms of energy use over the next few years. More refined electronic control has been added to the heating system which again should repay for itself in the coming years. The LTA loan which was awarded in October 2017 has half yearly payments of £IOOO. There is five years of repayments still to run. The club produced an overall surplus of just over £9k for 2022.
