Governing Document
The organisation is a charitable company limrted by guarantee. incorporated on 5 December 2003 and
registered as a Charity on 16 March 2004. The company was established under a Memorandum of
AssocÉation which established the objects and powers of the charitable company and is govemed under its
Artides of Association.
Recrultment and Appolntment of Directors
The trustees (who are also directors of the charity for company law) are sh<ywn on page 1 and held office
Ihroughout the year. The charity aims to recruit trustees with a wide range of business and sector
experien￿ from which the charity will benefft.

Organlsatlonal Structurn
Young People Taknng Action has a welkdefined intemal structure: Mernbers, who are consutted regularly in
variety of ways. YourYJ people are instrumenlal in the direction the project takes. They are asked for their
ideas for new projects, consulted over any changes. which are to be made as well as helping to maintain
the vitalty of the project overall. The Trustees, indude member and volunteer representation, meet monthly
and are responsible for the final decision about the organisation overall. The Main committee, induding
advisors. meets quarterfy and are responsible for the strategic diredion and overall policies of the Charity.
The Sub Committees, (finance. polices. publiaty. arKI personnel) meet monthly. These committees discuss
the issues and topics surrounding th￿r speciaty in greater detail arKI feed￿k Ihe inf0m￿tIOn to tt￿ main
committee, so decisions can be made.
The Project Manager oversees day to day running of the whole organisation and attends all meetings.
The project manager is the lynch pin belween the different committees, the staff. and the young people. as
well as being the representative for the organisation wtth other professionals.
Project Workers support young Feople, attend the main committee meeting. and are involved in other
committee rneets'ngs where appropriate to their skills and interests. Volunteers meel monthly to discuss any
issues they have surrounding the WO￿ they harfe been doiNJ within the project as well as being updated on
any issues which may have arisen from the committee meetings. Members are updated of any changes
which have been sandioned by the committee, whtch will affect them in any way.

The trust*s have conducted a review of the major risks to whith the tharity is exposed. and systems have
been established to mitigate those risks.

Young People Ta￿.ng Action (YPTA), localy known as the CYDS project. was set up in 1997 to support
young people aged &29 in the Suffdk Coastal Area by the provision of an inforrnation and support semce.
In particular to hdp young people to ￿a¢h their full potential and to improve the conditions of life for young
persons who have the need for such as service due to soaal or economic Circumstan￿$.
Young People Takn'ng Action is dedicated to continuing to improve and update the sep4ices, giviryJ
continuty of care lo dl service users, especially Ihose who are marginalised.
Primary Objectlves
Free, confidential, open minded. non-iudgmental support.
To aid young people to reath their full potential.
To empower young people to take control of their daily lives and future independence.
To respect the rights of the individual and their Choi￿$.
To provide informats'on and advice on topics, which may hinder young people r&xhing their goals.
To meet the needs of young people in the local cvmmunty and surrounding area.
To adV￿ate on behalf of the young people so they re￿1ve the best and most useful sepéice for
them.
To offer a sep4ice which is user- friendly and ftexible to the needs of the users. which offers the
opportunrty for early inteNention tOget￿rwIth aisis SUPF#)rt.
Young People Taking Action aims to promots publlc benefft by tackling th• Issues outlined below.

Develop self-awareness.
Develop self-esteem arKI confidence.
Gain an understanding of services available to them.
Develop new skn'lls and coping strategies.
Change self-abusing patterns of behaviour.
Reduce loneliness, isolation. and social marginalization.
Receive opportunities to challenge themselves in a supwjrtive envrronment.
Gain relevant infomation to make informed choices.
The work we have undertaken in the past year and what we h¢Jpe to achieve in the ￿rning year will be
explained in mre detail over the following pages.
The truste￿ have taken due regard of the guidan￿ published by the Charity Corrfflission on public
benefit.

Achievements and Perforniance
Introduction to the year
Over the last year CYDS has fJ)ntinued trj deliver a valuable seNice to young people limng in our area of
benefit and for some from oulside of it.
The project as a whole has been ai4e to offer different and interesting leaming experiences, such as short
educational courses to help people into eduGation, training or employment, diversionary holiday activits.es
and hobby Se￿OnS allowing young people the chance to ty something new, such as art, photography and
film making.
The organisation also tr)ntinues to be proadive in offerir#J Y￿n9 people courses, which staff team sees
as being beneficial to the ongoing wellbeing of the young people. suth as Substan￿ misuse, anger
management and olhers hel￿ng them to be better eqUIp￿d to re&h their full potential.
We continue to be able to cO￿r all se￿onS with paid qualffied staff assisted by volunteers. some of which
are young people from within the proje(a and some local Fthple from the wider community keen lo help the
youn9 people.
Open Access
Up unlil March and the start of the lockdowns our centre in Leislon offered open access time. a total of 24
hours per week. This open access work is of real Importan￿ as without it we would not be able to build the
relationships with the members er￿?￿Ing us to supp¥)rt them into the other more structured work we offer or
into other training l employment opportunrtses. Also. it gives the members time to unwind, bl¢)w off steam.
have fun. meet up with friends. try new things and relax in a safe comfortable environment. This year has
been hard for us not being able to keep c%)nta￿ with many of our young and them with us.
Offer One 2 One Coun5elllng
This year we have been able to offer free Counselling to young people who need it. We have expanded to
offing an aftemoon a week at our Ioc21 college {Sufft)Ik on the Coast) to supFK)rt the young people there.
Fun Activities
From our ￿ntre we offer a wide range of fun activilies for members induding atts and crafts, photography,
use of Intemet, computer gaming, pcrf)I ta￿e. music. LThrd games, TV. film propcts, music projects,
cooking. competitions and trips out. Again, this was up unlil March and the stsrt of the lockdowns.
Targeted Svpport
We have been able to offer one to one support sessions to local young people to help them to get Ihe best
possible transition from sdlool lrfe to adult lrfe. Most of this worf( is amed at young Feople not in, or at risk
of being not in. education, employment. or training. Or young Feople who have L*en identified as young
offenders or at real risk of bea)miNJ involved in cJin*.

Young Parents
Our Young Parents weekly aftemoon session were well attended. up until March with mums. dads and their
children laking part in both fun and educationai activities.
Welfare
We were able lo offer free use of phone and WFI, washing ffAchine. tumble dryer. shower, cnoking
facilities and bas￿ food to young people in real n*1 for these. Up until March then sadly this had to Stop.
Holiday Activiii•s
Thes8 are a range of sport, ouiward bound, Creative or communty propds run during school holidays to
give young people a Chan￿ to have fun. gain resilience. make new friends. and leam to work as a team or
to give something back to the local cx)mmunty. These actiNrtie$ were also stopped in March and replaced
with detached street-based sessions.

We have been going out and aiM)ut arourKI the streets of Leiston arKI Saxmundham offing information.
advice and aclimties lo y¢>Jng people who do not use our centre in Leiston. This work was expanded to fill
the Pla￿ of other ath'vities that h￿1 to stop due to Covid. On top of the all the normal information and
advice wort we also helped young p*e to undetstand the rules around COVKI and the different levels of
lockdowns and social distancing and protecting themsetbw arKI othern.
Partnershlp Worklng
We continue working in partnership with A￿$5 Community Tnjst in Saxmundham, we are working viith
Terrance Higgins Trust offering Sexual Heallh. Tuming Point to offer workshops around substance misuse.
Flnanclal revl•w
Incoming resources amounted to £126,904 After incurring costs £83,725 the net credit balance for the year
amounted to £49,773 as sh￿n on page 9. The directors considerthe yearend financial position lo be
satisfactory.
Prlnclpal Fundlng Sources
The principal funding sources for the chaiity are grants to enatAe rt to meet its charitable obj'ectives. During
the year. these grants were chiefiy from Children in Need. Robert McAlpine Foundation, Garfield Weston
Foundation, knmboume Trust, SLrfTolk Community Foundation, Suffolk Coastal District coun￿1, Leiston
Town Council, Saxmundham T￿n Coun(al and the Kerrison Trust.
Reserves Polky
Unrestrided funds represent the balance arising from the past operating adi%rytses. The tharity is xtively
seeking fundirvJ for its ongoing work for the coming year.
The main expenditure incurred by the chaiity is in relation lo wages, and the trustees are satisfied that the
balance of the fund is sufficient to meet daY-t{￿aY operating requirements of the chartty for a peri￿1 of
three months, amountirKJ to approxtmatety £15.1)00.
Free reserves at 31 August 2019 amounted to £45.311
Restricted funds are held in 8￿rdan￿ with the lems of use for ead) proJe(l.

Plans for Future Periods

published on 16 July 2014, the Financial Reporting Stsndard for Smaller Entities IFRSSEI is in
preference to the Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Prartice
i55ued on l April 2005 which is referred to in the extant regulations but has since been withdrawn.
l understsnd that this has been done in order for the accounts to provide a true and fair wiew in
accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Prartice effective for reporting periods
beginning on or after l January 2015.
BASIS OF INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity
Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity
and a comparison of the accounts presented WTth those records. It also includes consideration of
any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanab'on5 from you as trustee5
concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that

Basls of preparation
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and
Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice and in accordaDce with
the Financial Reporting Standards for Smaller Entities (effective January 2015) and the
Charities Act 2011. Assets and liabilities are inrtbally recL¥nised at historical c05t or
transaction value unless Othepwise stated in the relevant accounting policy
note. The financial statements have been prepared to give and 'true and fair, view and
have departed from the Charities (Attounts and Reports) Regulations 21X)8 only to the
extent required to provide a 'true and fail. view. This departure has involved following
Accounting and Reporting by the Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with
the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland {FRSSE)
issued on 16 Juty 2014 rather than the Accounting and Reporting by Charities= Staternent
of Recommended Pract•ce effertive from l April 2005 vthich has since been withdrawn.

Income
All incornin8 resources are included on the Statement of Financial Acti¥ities when the
charity has sufficient certainty that receipt of the income is probable and the amount can
be measured reliablv.
EXpendi￿re
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to make a
payment to a third party. It has been classified under headings that aggregate all costs
related to that category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings
they have been allocated on a basis consistent wrth the use of iesources. The charrty is
not registered for VAT and accordingly expenditure is shown gr05s of irrec¢)verable VAT.
Grants offered subject to conditions ¥¥hich have not been met at the year end date are
notes as eommitrnent but not accrued as expendtture.
Voluntary Income
All donated income is included in income on receipt where the donor requires that the
sum is to be treated as income in future accounting periods.
