**St Michael's Woolmer Green Pre-School**

**Statement of Financial Activities For the Period ended 31st August 2025**

## **Report of the Trustees**

**St Michael’s Pre-school is a registered charity: No. 1102358**

**12 London Road**

**Woolmer Green**

## **Hertfordshire SG3 6JP**

## **Trustees:**

Chair Ellena Lloyd Secretary Ellie Fitzgerald Treasurer Zoe Nicholls

## **Principal Activity:**

St Michael's Pre-School is a thriving and successful Early Years Foundation Stage setting in which children from 2 years until school age can develop and learn through play in a secure and safe environment.

## **Achievements:**

St Michael’s Pre-school has a ‘Good’ grade from Ofsted following an inspection in July 2022.

## **Financial Review:**

Pre-school significantly increased income by £78000 for the academic year 2024-2025. This was largely due to the significant investment in the Preschool building, subsequently reflected in the high premises maintenance costs. The Pre-school repaired and made improvements to the existing Preschool structure, as well as building an adjoining room. This allowed Pre-school to increase the number of children from April 2025, increasing funding income, thanks also to the new early years funding entitlements and rates. Preschool were fortunate to receive a grant from Hertfordshire towards the cost of the expansion, but building costs and the cost of resources and furniture/fittings for the room meant significantly higher expenditure for the year. Preschool also invested in the staffing team and have celebrated the Level 2 qualifications of 2 apprentices, as well as supporting further training and development for all to meet new statutory framework requirements. This, and the increased National Living Wage introduced in April 2025, is reflected in the increase in staff salaries.

## **Future Plans:**

Projected attendance for the coming academic year is excellent, with a full intake in both rooms from September 2025, as well as a waiting list. Our management team have worked hard over the last year to greatly improve the pre-school and whilst they continuously strive to improve the setting, now that the majority of the repairs and extension work are complete, will try to reduce spend this year where possible. The committee recognises the need to maintain a healthy level of income and hope to build a cash reserve once more by taking advantage of fundraising opportunities and controlling expenditure.
