SPRINGS CHURCH (A registered charity)

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES

The Trustees present their annual report along with the financial statements of the charity for the period ending 31st December 2020. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities Act, 2011 using the receipts and payment basis and have been independently audited

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE & MANAGEMENT

The charity is administered in accordance with the constitution adopted in 2004. The Trustees of the charity are Mr Paul Hiley (Chair); Mr John Lechler; Mr Aiden Wood, Mrs Jacqueline Wood (Secretary) and

Pastor Catherine Hills.

CHARITABLE STATUS

The Declaration of Charitable Trusts was signed on 10 February 2004. Copies of this deed are held by the Trustees and Messrs Robinsons, Solicitors.

OBJECTIVES & ACTIVITIES

The objectives of the charity are as follows:

1. The advancement of the Christian faith and the worship of God in the United Kingdom and overseas by any means whatsoever including (but not by way of limitation) the preaching and proclamation of the Christian Gospel and the teaching of Christian doctrine and the principles and the pastoral care of Christian people and the printing and distribution of the Bible and Christian literature including video and audio recordings or tapes and by any other media which is or may become available.

2. The Worldwide advancement of education on the basis of Christian principles and without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing the provisions of such education in any educational establishment and if the Trustees so decide the provision of one or more charitable education establishments for the general education of children or adults on the basis of such Christian principle.

3. The furtherance of the other charitable work of the church consistently with the above.

The Trustees seek to achieve the charity’s objectives by undertaking the following activities:

• Organising events, groups, courses and other such activities.

• Attending conferences and events.

• Running events and outings (e.g. for children or the older generations).

• Supporting and teaching about Christian outreach overseas.

• Supporting and raising the profile of charitable Christian organisations and activities.

PERFORMANCE & ACHIEVEMENTS

In respect of objective (1):

• Despite restrictions due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, where possible, Springs Church has held regular Sunday services throughout the year, including special seasonal services for harvest, personal remembrance, Christmas and Easter.

• When in ‘Lockdown’ and therefore unable to gather physically, pastoral care and teaching has been undertaken weekly using on-line sermons, electronica dissemination of material, remote gathering and mailing sermons, letters and devotional material to members and others upon request.

• When not under restrictions, Springs Church has run a variety of regular mid-week groups for adults in 2020, studying specific Biblical Books, themes and concepts. At times this has been held on Zoom.

• The church has remained an active member of the Ground Level Network of Churches and has attended conferences and meetings organised by it (both in-person and online).

• It has contributed financially to the Ground Level Network of Churches and to the charitable projects supported by it, as well as other Christian causes in the UK/worldwide. It also supports Churches Together of Lincolnshire.

• It has continued its support for numerous Christian organisations both financially and non-financially: raising their profile in the Church in the UK and beyond. This has been achieved irrespective of whether the Church has been gathering in-person or not.

In respect of objective (2):

• Springs Church holds specific weekly teaching for children and teenagers during the Sunday service, as required in additional to teaching directed to the adult congregation. This includes teaching activities using a variety of media, song/music and craft sessions, during in-person gatherings.

• Additional specific children and family-orientated meetings have been popular as a transition from lockdown to in-person all-age service.

• During ‘lockdown’, resources have been passed onto families for selfdirected: in particular at key seasons and festivals such as Lent and Advent, tailoring resources and teaching appropriately. This has been extended to families outside of Church attendance through our work with Safe Families for Children UK.

• Springs Church has weekly, Sunday services with Scripture-based teaching on a variety of themes such as the study of a specific Book of the Bible, or a

theme relevant to modern-day concepts (Psalms of Ascents and Brief Encounters on Facebook). Guest speakers may deliver other subjects

• Springs Church holds a monthly family ‘Café-type’ service (when lifting of restrictions allow) which offers a more varied and less formal programme of teaching for all ages together using a variety of media.

• As the opportunity arises, Springs Church run Alpha Courses (Introduction to Christianity in January 2020), discipleship or parenting courses (using Christian DVDs) upon application but also at specific seasons such as the New Year or Lent.

• Springs Church has remained committed to praying for Caistor and the surrounding villages (Prayer Inroads), as well as the wider world and Church: holding weekly prayer meetings on Zoom, having a 5@5 prayer slot in November 2020 and encouraging prayer at key times in Lent or Advent. Throughout lockdown, as well as in-person prayer when possible regularly.

In respect of objective (3):

• Restrictions due to the Covid-19 Pandemic have reduce in-person, larger gatherings. However, as a Church we have attempted to embrace new ways of gathering together with other Churches and networks at remote services and gatherings through Ground Level (but not exclusively)

• There is prayer and discussion in the wider community between the Pastor and leaders in the Humber to Wash network area on a regular basis for prayer, support and sharing. This extends to Church members on a quarterly basis in the form of a day of prayer/fasting: concluding with an evening prayer gathering.

• Springs Church has joined with Safe Families for Children, UK: supporting financially and receiving information in February 2020 to allow volunteers and supporters to be recruited and trained (March 2020). This allows families within our area to receive a befriender/volunteer as support. A small grant has allowed the radius of care to be extended over the lockdown period and enable safe meeting and resource provision where appropriate.

• Over the lockdown period Springs Church has sought to befriend those where need arises and support local community wherever possible. This has benefitted from a small grant to allow resource provision and meeting in small numbers safely in the Emmaus Room to reduce social isolation when restrictions allow

• The church runs 2 successful monthly lunch clubs, aimed at bringing together people who have limited social contact and mobility. These are run on Christian principles and utilise a number of volunteers from the Church. These could only run out of lockdown. A small grant was secured to enable the personal distribution of ‘Friendship Bags’ to all would-be attenders of the lunch clubs over Christmas 2020, ensuring they are not forgotten.

• An informal, monthly musical ‘acoustic’ evening held to bring together the musically-minded or mere music lovers for an evening of friendship and song.

• Breakfast and lunch social gatherings as well as coffee ‘get-togethers’ (out of lockdown) allow for community integration.

BANKING

The Church has two accounts with its bankers, current & savings. No charges for this service have been made. Interest is received on one of the accounts.
